Bass I will take your wife fishing ANY DAY. I troll that way also. SAME RESULTS. While trolling, I cast the ultra light . I occasionally rig the flyrod with a 6" to 8 " Rap or Rebel. A big pike on the fly is a reel workout. No barbs means boat stays in gear & some fast cranking those non geared reels. Worth every second.

Last year many old friends & wife ALL came down with the flu symptoms. After the flu shot. I never take any drug companies " preventative shots. " Just pocket money for them .

Nicky Will you wade or boat mostly ? If wading Pick a LONGER rod if possible. You lost 3' of height already. The 8 & 9# lines are heavier & tire me faster doing lots of roll casts. I am 6' 2" Boat ? Anything will be fine. The long rods can get heavy for the first few days / weeks, until your muscles build up.

Freshwater drums can pull like a tugboat for a long time. They look like a silvery carp. But have a true mouth. They bite lures if fished slowly.

I find in the spring the fish are STARVED !!! 1/2" chain links will not stop them from biting ANY LURE at any depth. More than 1 fish on a lure is almost the normal on a SLOW RETRIVE. They are usually schooled up & need food. AUGUST ?? 2# test with LONG CASTS & staying out of sight. Lots more hook ups. But what extremes do YOU & I need to go to ? I have other hobbies to satisfy me. If I am not catching fish on lures. I do not let 0 fish put me into a funky rut.

Right on Sam. I bought a Winston 12 weight fly rod. Always wanted it. I can cast a broomstick just as far.........But I really loved it. Totally useless. Gave it away after many non use years.

A maximum weight rod WILL cast anything in a wind. The lighter the weight the less conditions you can cast EASILY in. I have only kept the #8 rod & reel. Pfleuger Reel with fully spooled spare spooles from level to a shooting head. It is fantastic with loops on the lines & tapered leaders. Quick changes that way. The level line is the good part of a old shooting head line. All the spools have full backing of Dacron. You can use a cheap braid like Cajun Braid now as backing.

Pike are great followers to a boat. I have tested with live perch & had them trail 4 times right to the boat. Same sized pike. Not all fish are hungry & stupid. He expended plenty of energy with the follows. We have had fishing contests with just beer can rings & a hook. Not too bad of a body count.

I WANT the cat to extend the bony fins . I simply slide my index finger & the one next to it, up each side of the belly. They stop when they reach the extended side fins. I then pinch down my thumb. Completely held with the back spine always away from me. I now just use barbless hooks on everything . Long pliers done. Bass included. Even all the bass lures are crushed barbs. Kids love pulling the hook out by themselves. As we get older. We are supposed to solve more problems easier & safer.

Great post 07. Bass fishing is not like salt water fishing with lures. We do not get large schools of big bass to try 4 lures at once by 4 people at the same time.
