  1. Shallow & weedy lake. In early spring? Going to be a parking lot on each weed clump. GPS On a paper map all the biggest weed beds With holes under them. The draw the best path to them with the least driving time. The guys should stir the place up if it is shallow enough.
  2. Virus runs thru you. You either survive or not. Look at the massive side effects for any drug for anything. They take your money & tell you, you may become crippled or die for a skin fungus ?? Finishing up a nasty constant runny nose cold. Asked the dippy doctor for Codine to suppress my painfull cough. Crap I got was sugar water & no Codine. Wipe my butt with most doctors faces. Totally useless. $ 15 for nothing. Going to take the bottle back to the druggist & get my money. If he says she perscribbed that I tell her to pay me back. Tired of the white coated Witch Doctors screwing over me.
  3. Get E R room treatment. Just like any illegal. Name & address only. Said I did part time garden labor for cash. I have balls.
  4. First cheap little boat. Left the drain plug out on first launch..........It was by the hole inside luckily. AS the water came up thru the floor boards.
  5. I am surprised at the # of people who trash good old reels. The only problems I ever had were Bail Springs & Bail bearings. That was it. I use the smaller spinners with 4# only all day everyday May 1 to Sept 20. Fished every free minute of my 77 years. Did I get the only good reels ? Had 1 spool wear out. That is it. Light fresh water duty. Salt water seperates the tough from the new & pretty in a hurry.
  6. How many new 4 strokes will have ALL original parts 20 years from now ? 2 strokes ?
  7. The wonderfull Yellow Perch . Easy to find, catch and eat. They have SHARP gill cover plates to cut your hand open. They are great above 10" long. Sweet white meat. I would add to the perch. The larger Walleye. If not the L & S bass. Then perch & walleye. Always
  8. Gardnerjigman is close. I put into a freezer bag. 2.....1.5" rapala or Repela floater. 2 #2 Flicker Spinners. & a long doctors forcepe. ( Plier. ) So nice to carry in a pocket.
  9. On some dark bottom bays they are biting very late. As long as bait moves in & out to feed. The bass will take top waters.
  10. I Get carried away on learning something new. So I got the rythem down correct for me in open water. Then changed the trebles to weedless. More open water weedless practice. Then into pockets of reeds. The bass & pike were hungry . I used the 60# Ande mono. Had to lift the 9.9 hp & row or pole in to retrieve a lure with a hook stuck into a stem the size of my pinky. Well worth the retrival efforts. Note. The LM living at each reed pocket would bite anytime.
  11. We have a back bay that was designed for L M. They are all over the area. Several different docks, weeds, dark organic mud bottom, reeds, Branches. Loads of Emerald Shiners there with other bait fish. The largemouths sit sideways to the early mourning sunlight. Pike smallie sunnies. Heck everything is just sunning. Until high noon. Then everyone disappears & you can catch fish on every cast for about 2 hours. Then it is all the survivors sunning under the docks again. No attacking each other.
  12. The largest I have seen in a boat is a 6 in open water schools. The biggies are always under docks, boathouses & boats. Or backed into reeds. No way northern waters grow them as fast and big as down south.
  13. You can do it with 1 rod & reel. Later in fly fishing I bought a 9 weight rod & a anti reverse, adjustable drag, Pflueger ? reel with 5 extra spools for different weight lines & different tip types. The #9 weight will handle standard sized pike & musky. By changing the tip type you can cast the lighter stuff VERY well in a breeze. The Winston #9 was pure pleasure to land anything in freshwater. Got antsy for saltwater Bought a #12 rod. Waste of money. I could do about 30 pickups at VERY short lengths. Almost no control of loading the rod. Found out The #12 is only for trolling. Buy & learn. LOOSE money. Gave it to a GORILLA who casts for stripers. Loves it. He casts that broom stick all day when the stripers are near shore.
  14. In the Saint Lawrence River There are schools of Largemouths & schools of smallies. I leave the bass under the docks & boats & in boat houses for the Pro tournaments to catch. Deep lakes in N J also have schools of large mouths in open water. The first time I saw the 5 fish limit being dragged back to the boat launch I waved him down & asked. He said he regularly maxed out with the biggies. They only fed on the open water bait fish & would drive them to a raised mound in the center of the lake. We talked & he lalmost had tears when I told him about the big seaweed clump suspended With smaller clumps around it. He later taught me about deep water schools of large mouths.
  15. Went to Rajeff for a explanation. Thanks for the technical wakeup . I use medium power & medium action in everything I buy. If available.
  16. I remember taking up fly fishing. Talk about spending money FAST. 40 years ago each tiny fly was $3 to $5. By the time you bought all *** most of the types & sizes you owned hundreds. Without anything for non trout fish. I still have 50 ? non trout flies. Thankfully I can tie up a Muddler Minnow in a 3" to 6" length. Funny . A game warden asked me if I was going to fish the Gorge regularly with a 6" Muddler. I said probably. Why? He said look at the end of the pool. Several big dead trout. Belly up. I asked what caused that ? I did. Was his answer.. Big trout are very shocky after a struggle on 4# test. I ramble terribly.
  17. Remember all you old farts. The kids do not save money. So why should we ?
  18. With braids. You need almost no hook set swings. Add in that I am barbeless. The fish is hooked easily. Keep a no slack line.. Rod vertical or bent back a little. If I lose a great jumper fish I accept that he was lucky or better than me. No problem & I enjoyed the contest. Catching perch for food. 10# test & big barbed trebles. Reel fast & in the boat. Cut the gill arteries to drain some blood out Into the big ziplock in ice water. Those are my 2 styles.
  19. Lots of people average the BIGGIES. VHS disease is wiping out small fish as the BIG bass die slower on stored body fat. So last year was a FANTASTIC big .....small & largemouth year. Hell there only are LONG STARVING big fish left. But the total fish caught was that of a dead fishery.
  20. The size of the weed stems RULES when a fish dives & wraps around a couple. BRUTE force can be necessary. Open bare bottom ? go with 2# or 4# line. He is not going to get away. Rod action to me, is very unimportant.
  21. Just use the 60#. It cuts weeds better. IF you need to.
  22. I got caught up in that " gotta keep up with the latest " until I forgot all my tackle at home when going on a 2 week vacation. But I had the emergency rod & reel & a freezer zip lock bag with those 1.5" long floating Rebel & Rapala lures. Couple of splitshots assorted sizes. I caught the same amount of fish as loaded. BUT I was not wasting time changing rods lures different spools with different lines. I Still fish & only buy to maintain the 4# test ultralight & the 60# test rig. Dam I can fish well. I never think or worry about 200 items being changed. It is the person who catches the fish. Not the tackle. If there are no fish ? NO SPECIAL TACKLE is going to catch any of nothing.
  23. When we / you talk about schools of fish ?? That statement is very true.
  24. Thank you Megastink. Where I am the amount of roadway stones has Eliminated all the weed beds. Almost like a crushed stone bottom. 30 years ago I launched right above Philadelphia & found great reed islands. Fantastic bass & Channel Cats there. Rich
