What Is Your Average Sized Fish?

Featured Replies

What is the average size range of the fish you catch most often?

For instance, the majority of the fish I catch, are roughly between 14"-17" (maybe 2-3lbs)

What about yours?

Should I specify, FISH = Bass?

  • Super User

Differs for me. I'd say last year my average was

in the 3 pound range, but this year, despite some

good sizes, it's been lower, on average.

I'd put this season's average in the 2 pound range.

Though it's hard to quantify since I don't keep record

of every bass I catch.

Yeah I don't keep a record ethier but the average weight of my catches would probably be around 2lbs...

I would say mine is either 13"-14" or 17"-19" with the average weight to be in the 2 1/2 range

2 lbs, yup, the beeg bass hunter´s average fish is 2 lbs believe it or not, how is that posible ? because I may go and catch a couple of 4 or 5 lbers and maybe a 6 lber, but in between I catch a bunch of them 10 - 12 inchers that are so cooperative. My average is 4 fish an hour, if I go and fish for 10 hours that means 40 fish on average per trip, from those 40 fish only 2 or 3 are good size fish the rest is small fish weighting around pound or less your average weight takes a nose dive.

I would say in the 2 lb range maybe even less. Like Raul I typically catch a few very nice fish each day, but between big bites I catch a bunch of smaller fish...

On lake erie my average is probably 3lbs this year. Some other years would be 4lbs.

  • Super User

I'd say probably close to 3lbs, not a lot of fish this year, but manage a few each time I'm home over the 4lb mark and most are in the 2-3lb area.

Yea, but you're fishing those mutant Lake Erie bass & they have a Completely Freaky Large Gobie Fed Frame.

That's not fair

Its a difficult question to answer. I think that it varies so much lake to lake. In Vermont I would guestimate my "average" bass is 2 lbs. In Maine though I would say for this year my average would be closer to 4 lbs.

My average smallmouth is about 10".  And... commence laughing...........

I'd have to pick a lake, and get an average.  Even then, it can be seasonal.  Honeoye in spring, 3-4 lbs.  In dead of summer, I'd measure it ounces.  If I take where I fish a lot, probably around a 1.75 - 2 lbs.

You're holding that fish out to the camera, dude.  :P

Largemouth: 1.5lb

Smallies: 3.5lbs

Same here. Closer to 2 lbs though... ;)

1.5

Around ten inches for the bartrams\redeye in the river, and 1.5 pounds for the ponds and lake LM. I tried hard for smallmouth and totaled 5 so that's an easy average of 12ish inches. Super jealous of anybody averaging 3 pounder smallmouth.

I catch a few nice fish (2lbs plus) every time I fish, but the average size around here for me is 12-14"...Even on big swimbaits

For normal regular fishing 1.5-2.25 is a pretty good range for bass from all around here on average. When throwing big and that is usually what I do mostly now a day it jumps up to about 3-3.25 but those bites are a lot fewer and far between with the random 2#ers mixed in that even it out for when you hook a 5#er.

I'd say 1.5-2lbs.In Delaware, you average about one fish an hour.

Depends on the lake. Places like Silver and Conesus the average size is probably in the upper 2lb to lower 3lb range...................and then the other places I occasionally go to like Honeyoe, Loon, Cuba, etc.....a 12" keeper is about average.
