  1. x2. i find that noise/blades/vibration tend to spook fish in small ponds. try swimming plastics like a large crawl or 10" worm on a 4/0 weightless hook. let it fall for few seconds and then swim it just slow enough to keep it off bottom. pitch a jig in any muck/grass/pads etc. run ur spinnerbait 8' off/parallel shore. that will draw fish from shallow or deep. use a stanley ribbit frog--they have just the right amount of action and gurgle noise for small pond fish. going into summer and fall you can usually get away with more vibrations ie chatterbaits, buzzbaits, spooks etc. Are you working the whole shore line? no matter how good you are, you should be spooking someone. There are amazing posts on pond fishing. Go to forums and search for 'small pond'. if its a recent post you like...click 'follow this topic' in the upper right of page
  2. I might be cheap but i'm not stupid so i have some rage tails. picked up this girl on them today and she wasn't cheap or stupid..just hungry. most craws on the market have nice action. my problem with them is that the connection is so thin/weak. when is a company going to come along that makes the 1/8" body connection piece more thick and taper out to thin craws?
  3. nice job being in tune with nature and ur equipment. sounds like ur on ur way to the top. good luck
  4. i'm a big fan of zoom--price, durability, and color selection. can't afford strike king just yet. when i'm in heavy cover or the jig bite is good i might start switching to good ole' pork trailer. i picked these up on sale at wally world. looks like yum's version of a heavy flip/pitch creature. they are durable and a 4/0 hook fits perfect--nice action from the two long curl tails when swimming it. couldn't find them online. anyone seen them around?
  5. Whats your favorite craw that doesn't tear easily? A 2-3" craw for jig trailer or 4-5" craw /creature tube for punching. I'm tired of Netbait Paca tearing up so quickly. Anyone try Zoom Super Hogs? They seem to look thick/durable. I'm a fan of multiple appendages so it lasts even longer after loosing a few.
  6. awesome post. it how i feel about most fisheries...there is a smart ole' lunker lurking in the shadows that nobody has caught in ages.
  7. yup semi-slack line is the key. drop ur rod so 15" of line is slack and snap rod back 17". the sudden 2" uptake of line will walk ur bait to one side. repeat and ur walking the dog. experiment with longer lengths and also faster/slower tempo to see what the fish like
  8. i agree with setting the hook right away IF the bass are aggressive. if not, try waiting a few seconds before setting the hook. you will feel a tick tick tick...but wait until you feel WEIGHT on ur line before you set the hook. also trim your weed guards down to ur barb AND use a pliers to pull out 1/2 the strands. alot of jigs come with weed guards so stiff and long they sound be called fish guards. work on ur flip/pitch too. you will get double the bites if ur jig enters the water with very little splash. keep a low projection angle along the water. most hits are on the initial fall. if it hits the bottom, i wait a sec, pump one or twice and move on. if the bit is really tuff you need to wait around and entice them more (in which case i will actually switch to a slow falling soft plastic/finesse technique). with jig fishing i have more fun with 'pitch and move, pitch and move'. hunt the fish.
  9. Headed out to a small pond with Megastrike on Saturday. Here's the bull he hooked. I never saw anyone catch a frog..with a frog. Awesome entertainment. They are aggressive little spunks. Tks man. And thanks for the rod tubes. We gotta head out again soon.
  10. Okuma big bait series paired with a shimano cardiff wont break the bank. i bought the set up last fall but haven't had much success with it. anyone feel to chime in on my theory: big swimbaits are more a deep water technique and deep water success skyrockets with sonar/electronics. i know i will do MUCH better with them once i pick up a humminbird. then i can swim an 8" Hudd over the right point, creek bed, structure etc. without that deep water knowledge its like i'm wasting alot of energy tossing a huge bait in a giant deed ocean (sometimes i go old school and pre-fish the area with a 3/4 oz football jig and come back with the Hudd later--alot of work now a days when you can literally see the bottom with sonar and mark a GPS point). i do have limited success with them where shallow water meets deep but its not worth the effort b/c i can get the same results with a swimjig, spinnerbait etc. If i could do it over (being on a budget)...i'd buy electronics first (they would help ALL of my fishing techniques) and buy a swimbait set up next season (vs spending money on one specific technique).
  11. she is a pig! nice!!!
  12. is the STX the only one that comes with dual braking? it isn't listed as being on the S or SX. i love it on my BPT PQ and want to make sure my revo has it. they just went on sale at TW
  13. Solid reel. my only problem is that its VERY heavy so my rig isn't balanced (paired with Quantum Kevin VanDam KVDS705MHC spinning rod ). something about an 11oz spinning reel that just aint right
  14. I need to ship a few rods. Does anyone in the Philly/NJ area have any spare 8' rod tubes laying around? Tks
  15. I just posted to see if anyone is interested in fishing the Millsboro area tomorrow or Saturday. I'm coming down to buy a canoe. Are any of you guys still in the area and interested in heading out? I'm planning on either fishing Millsboro, Trap, Betts or Ingram Pond--or a small private pond if ya have one. Let me know if anyone wants to hook some lunkers
  16. I'm heading down to Millsboro tomorrow to buy a canoe. Does anyone want to meet up Friday or Saturday and do some fishing? I'm planning on either fishing Millboro, Trap, Betts or Ingram Pond. Or I can fish farther north on my home--Killens Pond? I'd love to meet up with a member and visit a secret honey hole (I'll bring a blindfold). Shoot me an email if your interesting in heading out or have a pond recommendation.
  17. nice fish! they must have put up a nice fight.
  18. start with 3/8oz and work ur way up (till you can cast w/o splashing & also slow roll heavy ones w/o getting hung up). if i'm in deeper water or the bass are ok w/ a fast retrieve=1/2-3/4oz. (i also like banging heavy ones off of structure b/c they make a bigger thump). 3/8oz if the bite is tough/ i need a slow roll presentation (or very shallow ponds where large buzzing lures spook the heck out of them). glen made the bible to spinnerbait videos: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/spinnerbaits-bass-fishing.html
  19. like this? if so grab some paperclips!
  20. it takes me 5 min to fan cast a spot...then i move 20 ft up water and repeat. i always start with a noise/vibration bait= chatterbait in white/chartreuse. if noone hits it after 2 spots i change to a darker colors--green pumpkin or black/blue. if no takers i move up water and change to less noise/vibration=spinnerbait or lipless rattletrap ( try color change up's). if no takers i switch to no noise=jig (i swim the jig first to see if a reaction bite is on--if not i change to traditional craw/hop on bottom. if the bite is tuff i slow down to finesse tactics aka soft plastics. i move hike, move and hunt fish until i find the section of water where they are holding that day. good luck!
  21. sounds good but why take the hook off the spoon? keep it there in case they prefer it. this guy clearly a fan of something similar-- jig to fluke. good luck!
  22. great video that say's it all good luck!
  23. 2x's. If your not used to treble hooks try searching with spinnerbaits, Zman chatterbait, and a jig--all have the hooks facing up. You can try all different retrieves but if the bite is tuff focus on reeling just fast enough to keep it from dragging on the bottom muck. Chatterbaits are lethal for me. If you slow the retrieve down they will stop wobbling/chattering, then twitch ur rod tip or crank ur reel one rotation quickly to turn the chatter back on. It drives'm crazy and they nail it when the vibration starts again. If they want lots of noice=chatterbait. Less noise=spinnerbait. No noise=swim a jig back to you. And of course when all else fails, try something new. I've caught some of my best fish while bending down to tie my shoelace!
