  1. Tubes, spinnerbaits, and jerk baits.
  2. You can still use it for anything you want. I fished rubber worms with a very similar combo for years as a kid. It's just a more difficult to set a single hook with a medium action rod. Your hook up percentage just may be less with single hook lures than with trebles. Consequently, you may rip cranks out of a fishes mouth with a fast action rod. Be careful, its a slippery slope. One day you'll end up with more rods and reels than any one man needs (like me and most guys on this forum).
  3. Largemouth are good. Smallmouth...not so much. I agree the smaller the fish, the better the taste. Soak the filets in salt water first to draw out the blood. Lemon juice, spices (onion, garlic, paprika, lemon pepper, heavy dill, parsley), wrap in tin foil with butter and topped with lemon wedge (also good with pineapple). Bake at 375' for 30 minutes or on the grill. Can't beat it
  4. Sounds like a good set-up for deep diving cranks. It might be a little tough for anything without treble hooks.
  5. I will be upgrading my drag to carbon fiber this week. I keep reading that Cal's is the grease to use but unfortunately I can't find this at any of the local shops. I would order some, but time is a factor with a fishing trip already planned for this weekend. Would i regret using BP grease or quantum hotsauce grease? Any other alternatives to Cal's that may available?
  6. A wacky rigged senko. I try it almost every week and I've never had one bite.

I use both the magic swimmers and cranksters but the prices are outrageous. I've swam on more than one occasion to retrieve a snagged lure. I now buy the blank knock-offs and paint them myself (10 lures for around $25). They do catch fish...
  8. I have a chronarch and a few citicas and my cousin fishes with the revo sx, so I have got to fish both. The revo is smoother but I'm a shimano guy. That being said, I'd go with the abu just because I would want to try something new as well...on second thought I love my shimanos and they are incredibly durable and easy to upgrade. Plus, I think their breaking system is more consistent...but... They are both great reels, so good luck deciding.
  9. Fished Batesville IN today (45 miles out of Cincinnati) both Laughery Creek and a private pond and they were hitting shallow seible cranksters. We threw jigs, wooly bugs, spinners, jerk baits, senkos, and an Alabama rig and only the shallow cranks pulled out a few 3-4# large mouth. Good luck. BTW, Laughery creek is very similar to Little Miami and it was high and muddy.
  10. I love the square bills and so do the spotted bass. I've caught some great fish on them. They're silent without rattles, which I think is a good change of pace.
  11. In shallow rivers and creeks in southern Ohio and Indiana, you can't go wrong with spinner baits and beaver type baits. In large rivers I focus on creek mouths and bridge pilings jerk baits. However, your best bet would to be to ask the guys you see catching the bass what they're using.
  12. I'll have a jig on one rod and a shallow crank on another. When summer is in full effect I have to try a top water frog at dusk and dawn.
  13. Ditto what smalljaw wrote.
  14. There must be something wrong with me? Nothing is better than tubes on St. Clair. There's just something about setting that hook that's indescribable. A jerk bait is my #2.
  15. The yozuri is tough as nails but I would have to replace it often due to the memory. I meant to try some line conditioner but I become easily distracted upon entering any tackle shop and always forget to pick some up.

Awesome! I've been trying to create my own cranks for a couple years now and am still at the trial and error stage. It's great to see some are successful. I'll use this as motivation and get back to work shop for another attempt.
  17. Any opinions or micro-guides? I broke my pitch'n rod and need to replace it. I've seen many rods featuring micro-guides but I know very little about them.
  18. I'm constantly looking at the 50's, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. Are they that much of an upgrade for lite lures over the 200e's? My main fishing hole is a mile hike through the forest and I'd love to be able to leave the spinning rod at home to lighten my load. I usually have to throw lite when the water is crystal clear.
  19. Well...I'm jealous.
  20. I've always been a shimano guy, but I love my pflueger president. I have an old Penn reel and it does the job but it I wouldn't say its quiet. When my Sahara finally bites the dust I was planning on replacing it with another pflueger.
  21. The citi-rado is my old citica upgraded with curado parts. I bought a 200e a couple years ago and have slowly upgraded the parts piece by piece. I removed the plastic bushing and added a ss bearing. Replaced the handle with the curado handle, adding two more bearings. The only thing left to be done is to change out the spool. Maybe its just the work I put into it (or the orange seals), but I actually like it more than my chonarch. Plus, it turned out to be a lot of fun.
  22. I'd go with the citica or the caenan and just upgrade the parts later. Shimanos are easy to upgrade yourself and most models use the same components. I love my citi-rado. As for rods, St. Croix premiers can be found for around $100. Vendettas, falcon, and lamiglass rods are also good choices.
  23. 7' MH Fenwick HMG with a Shimano Chronarch E7. I went with the E7 because its easier to slow down your retrieve than speed it up when the situation calls for it.
