Fantastic. Sounds like there's a few folks who are bringing extras. Still can't track mine down, so it must have gone missing last season. Also, I'm stopping at QT in the morning. Anything need to be picked up? I can pick up some soda/chips/whatever extras you feel need be brought.

Can't find my tape measurer anywhere. If any of you have an extra measuring board/tape, would you mind bringing it tomorrow and I'll be sure to get it back to you at the end of the day?

Great, I'm terrible with a jerkbait. Were they suspending jerkbaits or floating?

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
Hoping to get out tomorrow. I'd like to hit melvern, though it could be quite windy in those parts tomorrow so I'm playing it by ear. I've been out there enough when it's windy and it just isn't any fun in my small boat. White caps and I don't get along. If the wind decides to be naughty tomorrow, there's a decent chance I'll go down to mound city. I've got a feeling there's a big fish waiting there for me for some reason.

Getting Frustrated....
Part of your problem, in terms of size, could be the fact that you only see 10" bass. It's possible the fishery you are at does not have a healthy population of large bass nor the forage to support the population that is there. Also, if you are limited to the bank and the area you fish is heavily pressured, the larger (older/smarter) bass may have moved away from these pressured spots. It could be beneficial to contact some knowledgeable authority on the body of your water you're fishing to see if it produces big bass in the first place. From there, if the body of water does produce larger fish, focus on catching fish first. What I mean by that, is try a variety of techniques until you discover the favorite forage for the area. If you have little to no luck on jigs, it might be that crayfish are not the primary targeted forage. Thusly, on some of your next trips try a shallow running crankbait (like the mann's baby 1 minus that runs 1-3 feet. This will help you avoid snagging the trebles fishing from the bank) in a variety of colors. If that doesn't produce, continue to experiment. Most importantly, when I my adventure was just beginning, the most important advice I received was to keep my line wet. The more you keep your line in the water, the better chance you have of catching that fish of a lifetime. Keep at it and it's only a matter of time.

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
My brother and I decided to bang the banks this morning on account of all the nasty weather. Didn't really feel like getting the boat out. The big girls came out to play and wanted spinnerbaits, so that's what we gave them. My brother caught his pb, and I couldn't be happier for him. Here's some pics of our big fish. We happen to look a little alike. He's the one with the bigger fish/ brown hat.

So, spring has started but it really hasn't. I don't like this weather right now. They're predicting a big snow storm this weekend... sheesh.

How big was your biggest? Once again, keep it on the shh but I've absolutely slayed them out at critzer on scrounger jigs with grubs as trailers.

Yeah Clayton, it's pretty gnarly. I'd like to think I'll make it back out there at some point this season, but I doubt it'll be anytime soon. I'd like to get on Lacygne while the gettin's still good. After a trip or two there, I'll probably starting trying to figure out perry again and hitting up melvern some. And shhh, but I have a feeling a big fish is coming out of mound city lake this year and I'm gonna be the one to do it.

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
Fished for roughly four hours on critzer today. The water temps ranged from 42-47. Things were pretty slow, and I couldn't really get any pattern dialed in. In fact, I only had one bite all day on a spinnerbait. The cold wind from the north didn't make things any better. The one fish I did catch was a pretty nice one though at least. I didn't take any measurements or weight, but I did get some pictures snapped. She had a pretty big fish tail sticking out of her gullet that I tried to get a picture of, but it was a little dark. You can kind of make it out in the second picture. At any rate, it was better than getting skunked I guess.

Off to brave the north winds on critzer. I'm hoping the water temps are at least in the high 40's. If they're anywhere close to the 50's, I expect a good day. Anyhow, I imagine my buddy and I are gonna freeze. I'll let you all know how things went down when I get back.

I was hoping to hit la cygne this saturday, but it's looking like there's gonna be a pretty strong wind out of the north. Not exactly prime conditions for out there. Winds are forecasted to be a little lighter around mound city, and critzer lake runs west to east so there should be a lot of wind protected bank if things get with it. If I can get the boat running out of her winterized state, that's where I'll be headed unless the forecast changes to more favorable conditions.

I've fished some smaller tourneys on mound/critzer. It works ok depending on how many boats you get. At any rate, I'll do my best to make this one.

Been a while since I've logged in. Is it spring yet? I'll play this game, even though I'm a little late. Favorite Rod / Reel: Probably my new skeet reese spinnerbait rod/ lews speed spool. I didn't get to use it much as I bought it late in the season, but that thing is smooth as butter. All-around line: The new "improved" trilene formulas. That stuff is pretty great for the price. Jig / Shakeyhead / Football: Didn't do great with jigs this year. I would say I swam jigs a lot more this season, and had success with it when other things weren't working. Generally a 3/8 ounce jig in pbj with a paca chunk trailer. Crankbait: Strike king 1.5, 2.5, and red eye shad were all big producers for me this year Finesse Bait: Not only the ned rig, but also a finesse style with 4" netbait worm. Topwater: Poppers. Plastic: Havoc Pit Boss, Tubes of all colors/sizes
