Diesel is a great rod, you can't argue with Powell's quality. Where are you getting them if I may ask? I thought about picking one up for myself.

Lews makes reels with a 5:4.1 gear ratio, the Laser MG, Speed Spool, both under $100. They also have the Tournement MG which is $130. Very light weight reels, good quality too!

Spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, Swim Jigs. Then I'll slow down and fish with soft plastics too!

I can't trust people with my rods or reels either lol, but if I have to I'll order rods and reels online.

Well now I know I have a general idea on what to do with my jerk baits. I don't fish them much, but with your tips, I'll start throwing them before spring this year thanks!

I wacky rig with spinning, but Texas rig with baitcasters. And I use Buzzbaits and Spinnerbaits on baitcaster. A Abu Garcia Combo is $99.99 at most retailers. So you are going to use it for spinnerbaits and Buzzbaits?

If I was you I would buy some baits, a baitcaster ,and a rod. If your a beginner, I would go with a modest baitcaster. What brands do you like, and what techniques would you use if for?

I just got some for Christmas ,and can't wait to try it out!

Totally worth it, I think they are the best shakey heads on the market. They stand up perfectly, you can fish any worm you want (doesn't have to float).

Powell makes some good crank bait rods, Diesel or Max I believe.

Mega strike makes the best spinnerbaits, in my opinion. I started out with Booyah pond magic, and strike king 3/8 oz. All chartreuse then I expanded my horizon to blacks, reds, etc.

Did you try loosening your spool tension knob beside your handle? It's a little knob beside the handle.

Yes, that is perfectly fine. I loosen the drag on all my baitcasters.
