Snakeheads
Snakeheads are really a lot of fun to catch. I've always heard they are good toeat, never tried it myself, i'm a little too skeptical seeing the water most of them come from, haha. They do fight very well. The initial strike is awesome. More often then not you can see their wake before they hammer the frog. its like a torpedo shooting from the bank into the lure. lgmouth said it best, topwater buzz frogs along canal banks. Just like bass they'll key on pieces of structure/cover as an ambush spot as well. and they do have some nasty teeth. i always make sure i have my "attitude adjuster" and pliers for them. I live in pembroke pines so i really dont venture farther than coral springs for them. but worth the drive! good luck! Matt

First Pig Of The Year!!
thanks for the kind words guys! Gar, i decided to throw the rod and reel back with the fish. The reel was a 7.1 ratio and i needed a 6.4/1.

First Pig Of The Year!!
This morning i headed out to sw ranches to hit a couple spots. First canal produced a few 2lbers on a space monkey. Drove to the next spot, after 5 mins i made a cast parallel to the bank so i can swim the bait alongthe dropoff. I saw this girl swim right up to it, i stopped, she stopped. I twitched it in front of her and i watched as she inhaled the bait and swam off. I made sure i stuck her well enough to stay pegged. I couldnt believe how big this fish was, my best guess is around 6lbs. I have another pic ill try yo load but the file is very big. So needless to say, morning, day, weekend were made! Good luck everyone! Matt

Flukes?
Flukes are very versatile, and more than likely the #1 bait i would take if i had to. As said earlier there really isnt a wrong way to retrieve them. I rig them weightless on a screwlock hook. I always vary speed, cadence until the fish tell me what they want. Ive caught fish bumping it on the bottom, walking it on the surface, casting into cover. As far as color goes i like the green albino in clearer water and watermelon seed in darker waters.

Nice Surprise
LOL! I'm married only 2 years so we still enjoy each other's company, haha. Yes they love anything moving fast. Very hard to get on a fluke, i love gettin them on spooks! Actually on the other side of sheridan and hiatus. In the cedarwoods development. My father in law lives in rock creek, i've tried a few spots there with minimal success. Just a few small bass, and those just came from the park off the stirling road entrance. The cedarwoods lake holds some big bass. Ive had a few 5lbers out of there. The peacock population there seems ok at best. I see them here and there. Good to meet someone so close to me! Good Luck! Matt

Nice Surprise
Snook, im guilty of the same thing. Bass in my lake have been very productive lately but i always seem to try my luck elsewhere. Maybe its just the challenge of different water. Lgmouth, i caught that in my lake by my house. Im right on the border of cooper city/pembroke pines by hiatus rd. Its a huge lake. Trying to talk my wife into letting me get a kayak so i can work all of the water instead of just what i can cast to. She insisted if i did have a kayak she would never see me again, she knows me too well. Haha Matt

Nice Surprise
Throwin a fluke this morning at the lake in my development, and this girl destroyed it as it came above a rockpile! I think this may be my first peacock on a plastic. Normally its cranks and topwaters. Either way it made monday for this guy a lot better! Caught a couple buck bass as well that were bustin bait off the shore. I have to go down to north miami wednesday to pick up a holiday gift, bringin a rod with me and hope to come across some fishable water! Happy monday!

Broward County
There are countless places to fish in and around your area. As lgmouth said, google earth is a great tool to use. Im pretty familiar with the sunrise/plantation area. Right now anything imitating baitfish has been great, especially flukes. Love the topwaters like gartracker said also! Good luck and let us know how u did!

Little Fish Or Skunked?
I can weigh in(pun intended) on this topic. Being a recreational fisherman big fish are considered a bonus. My situation is very different than a lot of peoples. I fish from shore in urban areas most of the time down here in south florida. Whether the fish is 1lb or 6lbs i still get all excited when my fluke, crank, spook, frog, worm, or whatever gets hammered! again its just my own personal experience.

Question?
Yesterday morning i went to a spot of mine in Davie with hopes of some bass and or peacocks. I worked my way to a corner of the lake and noticed something strange. I saw a bass bed with close to a 2lber sitting right on it. And about 10 yards farther down the bank, another one with another fish sittin on it. Now obviously i know this isnt strange, what i thought was strange is the timing. I expect this to happen mid to late january, not in mid-november. I may be wrong in assuming the january time frame, i'm certainly no expert to bass fishing. I just thought it was strange. And these fish were definatly in bed mode. They wouldnt touch anything thrown their way unless it was dragged through the bed. Can someone enlighten me on this? Is this just a fluke(pun intented)? Or is this normal? THank you in advance Matt

Slob At Lunch
Tuesdays i have the luxury having a lunch break, and being only 5 mins from hm thats where go. After havin a bite i had some time to kill so off to the lake i went. The water is always gin clear in this lake but with the wind we've had its just a little dirty. I threw a chrome spook(which has produced a little recently) and this big girl HAMMERED it! Certainly one of the biggest bass ive ever caught. Im guessing around 5.5lbs or so. Definatly made my day!

Skunked By Snakeheads
Thats awesome! I think i made the decision to go later this week just seein that pic. I dont work til 1pm during the week, i need to make sure i run all my errands early this week so i can get up there thursday or friday morning. I'll look more closely at the weather the day before to make sure it'll be good. Hopefully i can have a morning with a little overcast and throw the buzz frogs. Have a few spots picked out that hopefully havent been hit too hard. If i get some good ones i'll post them up. Good luck! Matt

Skunked By Snakeheads
Yes they are pretty smart. Ive also seen them bee line it up to the frog only to just turn away. I always try to either totally stop or twitch really quick to get them to eat but sometimes they just totally lose interest. Its always frustrating because they almost never even sniff at it during the 2nd cast. After that story by diggy i'm really jonesing about gettin up there again this week. I'll have to make it happen. Still hittin bass pretty good down south. Found a nice little canal stretch in Southwest Ranches on Friday and caught a few bass(up to 3.5lbs) and 2 decent peacocks on flukes. I think i have a new favorite "go to" bait. Good Luck everyone! Skunked By Snakeheads
I will certainly agree less snakeheads are a good thing. I havent killed them that much lately when i did catch them. Even when i was up there a couple of weeks ago i only caught 2 i think. Oh well, next time i go i'll have to research out some new spots to try. Even with google earth sometimes its hard to see how accessible an area is by foot, depending on how old the imagery is. The bass bite further south has been pretty good the last few weeks though, so im not too bummed. Anyway enough rambling, good luck! Matt

Skunked By Snakeheads
Went up to coral springs this morning as i do every few weeks for some snakehead action. Had a buddy with me, he had one blow-up but missed it. Other than that, no snakeheads. Caught a small 1.5# bass or so but nothing else. After an hour i started throwin a spinnerbait and still had nothing . guess thats why they call it fishing, just a bad day thats all. Hope everyone else did better than i did, haha Matt

Nice One This Morning
Thanks guys, ive been using google earth for about a year or so. It is an amazing tool, and like tarpon hunter said if i wouldnt have found it on the map i never wouldve known it existed! Now i just need to get a big bite on the beach this sunday! Thanks for the responses guys! Matt

Nice One This Morning
Had to make a trip to ikea this morning. They dont open until 10 so i left early and spent some time at a spot i found on google earth. After about 20 mins i saw some minnows get torn up on the other side of the canal. So i tossed my fluke on the other bank and crawled it in and bam! I set the hook and thought i fouled hooked the fish because i could barely move him. This big boy showed his face with the fluke right in the corner of his mouth. That made my day and week! Idk the weight but im guessing around 4.5lbs or so.

This Past Sun
ugh, went to the inlet yesterday morning. Tide and wind had the water haulin a** through there. So i worked my way to beach so i can be there as the sun came up. I startede workin the beach, i had one bite, but no hook up. I paid very close attention to the birds as they worked themselves down the beach. And by their behavior there wasnt much bait in the water. At about 745 or so the sky opened up and wind picked up a notch or 2. And it was the stinging rain in the face, not just a little drizzle. So i had to call it quits early. A little disappointing but still a very good way to spend a morning. Matt

Little Tunny
Huge bonita! People have said bonitas are a pain bc it hinders them from the target species. That sure looked like a blast to me, especially on light tackle! Awesome! Matt

This Past Sun
Ive heard the flukes are great too. I planned on the soft plastics goin on my 1/4 ounce jig heads. And if the weeds are a little thick, i will definately throw the weedless fluke. I always have my freshwater tackle with me and have swimbait hooks for the flukes. Again, thank you for the great info! Matt

This Past Sun
Awesome reply! Im even more excited to go tomorrow now, i know the wind is out of the east so the surf will be churned up pretty good. I had some results last week, water was dead calm which explains the cuda. Hopefully i can hook up a nice snook or jack. Bass fishing has been a little slow lately, although i did catch about 6 or 7 small ones the other day on a fluke. I got a few more swimming mullets for the morning and a new bucktail. Wish me luck and i hope to be posting pics this time tomorrow! Thanks again! Matt

This Past Sun
So here is kind of a dumb question. Ive heard a few different answers so hear goes. I plan on going to the inlet again sunday morning. At sun up the tide should rippin in(last week it was going out), question is should i concentrate more on the inland side as the water dumps into the intercoastal? Also, ive heard tide is less of a factor on the beach, is there any truth to this? Thank you in advance! Matt

This Past Sun
I just started dipping into saltwater fishing. This past sunday i went to haulover inlet. I figured conditions were going to be great(falling tide as sun was coming up). I arrived about 6am and bait in the inlet was EVERYWHERE! i fish the area under a bridge light with one small hookup. I was throwing a gulp swimming mullet on a jig head. I worked my way to the beach and as dawn broke i had caught 4 runners off the jetty. So i started making my way down the beach and caught this small cuda. Had a few more hookups right after that with no size. Anyway, i had a blast and hopefully i can get some drag screaming next time out. Good luck everyone! Matt
