  1. Remember the awesome coveralls and flat brimed, mesh back caps the early pros wore. Honestly can anyone say they looked good. Goober---Gomer
  2. Stickers are ok, just have to be like "Team Daiwa" or "Bass Resource" although my wife said they looked stupid on the boat. She's now banned
  3. Last one Remember when it was cool to put big stickers of fish on your boat or truck. I had a bass and a pike. Vomit
  4. A couple more Remember when We northern fishermen always carried a musky club or small gaff so if we hooked something big and toothy we could kill it If you told anyone it was easier to catch a 30 pound bag of smallies than a 30 pound bag of largies they would think you completely insane
  5. Remember when We looked at the new import Daiwa and Shimano equipment and thought the tackle industry is going to hell with all this Japanese crap. The Daiwa TD1and TD2 were totally bad ass We thought you couldn't catch Musky's at certain times because they had sore mouths We fished for those Muskys with 5'6" broomsticks and Abu or Daiwa round reels with no Brakes, resulting in some epic backlashes.
  6. They remind me of the Mojo + $100. Kind of heavy and not real sensitive
  7. Hey everyone, can I get an honest opinion on the GL2 rods. I've used them a couple times and wasn't impressed with the rods, especially at the price point. But in fairness, not owning the rod I thought I'd give everyone a chance to voice their thoughts on the rods
  8. When I think about all the prime water I didn't fish because of heavy weeds back in the day, I get a little sick. I think the only option I used was a Johnson silver minnow, big hits but hook-up ratio not great
  9. Remember when In Fisherman was one of the only fishing shows on tv and a weekly must see and Ron Lindner and Babe Winkelman didn't look like the same person
  10. I think it's hard to compare the the two. I'd take a legend extreme over almost any rod but for $120 I'd take the Elite tech smallmouth over most almost any rod, so I guess Fenwick wins the value battle but St Croix is the better high end rod
  11. Remember reading Fishing Facts and all the cool lure kits you could buy. I bought the Reaper kit cuz Babe said it was great. Never caught a fish.
  12. I still have one of the Ryobi bait casters, not used
  13. The 1980 tackle box for me was Mepps Rapala Mr. Twister Jitterbug Crazy crawler A couple of primitive spinner baits A few rubber worms melted to the bottom Bagley crank baits that looked great and ran like crap Daredevils The other spoon (red eye maybe) Johnson silver minnow A couple of rattle traps
  14. I could do this all night but just a couple more The very first Lightning rods came out and in my opinion brought graphite rods into the mainstream You looked at the Cabelas catalog and wondered who the hell would pay $79 for a reel, now I drop a hundred on a spool
  15. Mine was actually a 408 on a Berkley Parametric( Curt Gowdy signature) great rod
  16. Picking night crawlers is a good one. I used to buy this stuff called "crawler caller " at least 30 years ago. It was a small white bottle that you mixed in a bucket with water and then dumped on the ground at night in a good spot. Night crawlers literally flew out of the ground, several dozen at a time. The EPA would love it now
  17. Yup, I'm with you on this one. I've got the ET smallmouth with a Stradic on it and it's just a super rod. Gotta be one of the nicest blanks for the money ever made. The handle is a little different but you get used to it.
  18. I'll start Remember when If you owned a browning rod with a Mitchell 408 every thought you were rich Kistler was an almost mystical name for a lot of us When you held the very first Shimano Bantam it was like holding a work of art All star made great rods Shakespeare made one of the best spinning reels (the Sigma)
  19. I probably have at least 2 rods and in some cases 6-8 for every technique but I find myself adapting the Cumara with a line or reel change to fit different techniques instead of switching rods. Not to say I ONLY use the Cumara, I usually have 12 on the deck or 4 walking the bank. The day that rod breaks ( and I know it will happen sooner or later) I'm gonna be one sad dude. I will say that I've gotten a few Tatula rods and for the money they really are nice. The 7'4" frog rod is perfect in my area as a muti purpose heavy power rod. Not to many Cyprus to pitch to or giant mats to punch in northern Illinois, and the 7'1" MH xf is a nice all purpose rod. Of course they are no Cumaras, ha ha
  20. 18# Samurai with a 8-10# fluoro leader
  21. I have a theory floating around in my head that at some point in your life you find the one rod that to you is "perfect". It may not be your best or most expensive rod, but it is the rod that is right for you. My perfect rod is a 7'2" m. Xf Cumara. I have more expensive rods but this is "the one" for me. The problem is, I compare every other rod I hold to my Cumara and think to myself "nice, but not the Cumara ". I've also come to realize I buy rods that have a similer feel to "the one" and now have like 6 rods that all have the same feel and action. I know for a lot of people there is a Loomis rod out there that is their "perfect" rod. So am I crazy or do you all fall in love with one rod and if so what rod is it.
  22. 6'8"-7'2" MH. XF wil cover you for most bottom contact baits unless your fishing super heavy cover. Price and sensitivity pretty much go hand in hand. The Tatula is a really nice, sensitive rod for the money and although I don't own the *** everyone raves about the rod and it's sensitivity. As far as gear ratios go for bottom contact baits, the biggest advantage to a high speed reel is if your pitch or flipping out of a boat. Typicaly your only presenting your bait to a small area and then burning it back in so higher speed reels allow more casts per hour and let you cover more water. If your doing a lot of bank fishing either speed should be fine. Also make sure you get a real with a strong enough drag( at least 10 pounds) as you might want to lock it down at time tossing a jig. Hope this helps
  23. It's funny, people have such differing opinions about Crucial rods. I'm a big fan and have 10 or so. A few are a little tip heavy but all in all I'd take them over most rods even at the $160 price range. The problem is a lot of people LOVED the first model Crucials and never really excepted the second model. In my opinion the Crucial is a great rod for the money. I use the one you have on hold all the time.
  24. X3. Lifetime warranty still in effect. Great rod for the money
