  1. I believe this is an impossible argument. Their are such massive differences in the performance and qualities of different brands of fluoro's that it makes it impossible to just say "fluoro is better" and the same can be said for mono
  2. Remember 30# Power pro has a true break point more like 40# so yeah might be a little heavy, I run 20# Samurai and that's about perfect
  3. If you can find a Daiwa T3 1016 on the auction site for $150 or less that would be a great reel. Maybe the best break system out there and a great spool. Revo Rocket is good also, love the super high gear ratio
  4. GOOD fluoro treated with a quality line conditioner can be a pleasure to fish with. I have found two things to be rally careful about when using fluoro 1-although it may be very abrasion resistant it is not very shock resistant. Slack in your line when setting the hook can result in broken line. 2-I like to run my reels with little or no spool tension and this can be rough on fluro. Any little loop buried in your spool will be a broken line. Keeping the fluoro tight on the spool is very important .
  5. Anyone else have this issue? My gen2 premier will develop a whine and casting distance is cut by at least 30%. This happens every month or so. The fix is cleaning the spool edge and the race that the centrifugal pins rub against and applying a very lite coat of lube. I notice the race has either grooving or the pins are leaving a build up of material on the race. This is really getting annoying. It's the only revo I have with this break system so I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I've always loved the gen2 premiers but this is testing my patience.
  6. No Samurai love?? 50# Samurai for me, with FX2 a close second.
  7. I just don't remember being able to buy a current model at a discounted rate like you can now. Other brands, yes. But not Daiwa or Shimano. Even higher end reels like the Zillion T3 and the Ballistic EX can be had at a big discount and they are basically brand new models. I just find it odd
  8. is it me, I don't remember new Daiwa reels being sold on auction sites at prices considerably less than list. Tatulas can be had at 33% discounts. Daiwa and Shimano always sold for list or very close. A new trend for Daiwa that makes me wonder what direction they are heading
  9. find a first generation Daiwa Ballistic, should be able to get one in the $125 area and it's very close to your CI4+'s
  10. You will pay $50 more then you have to for the Tatula if you buy it at Bass Pro, kick in a little more and get a Curado. This coming from a Daiwa guy!
  11. I believe their is a small square spring loaded button on the bottom of the reel that you push away from the side plate, that releases a pin latch and allows the side plate to be removed. The centrifugal brakes will do most of the work wid the mag breaks taking over at the end of the cast
  12. One time I put a Fuego on a Skeet Reese rod and the Color combination made me vomit on the Fuego, which severely hurt the freespool time of the reel. Point being, color can effect performance
  13. If go with the Veritas, the Mojo is to heavy for my taste and sensitivity isn't great. Veritas is pretty good bang for the buck
  14. Big difference between Daiwas M and MH.
  15. I think it would be tough to find any rod that could handle dropshot and spinnerbaits. Two totally different techniques. The 7'1" mhRB makes a nice spinnerbait rod. You want a soft tip for dropshot and the 6'10" might work ok but I think they make an R in a rod that size that would be a little more suited for dropshot
  16. in fairness I may have as many reels as she has scarfs, and she knows what a good reel costs
  17. I guess my point was that right now I can't think of a reel priced at $150 that I would buy over the T3. Totally agree that the T3 isn't worth $400 or $300 but that's what they sold for. The Kohls comment hit a little to close to home, we have at least 40 fashion scarfs because they were 70% off ??????? And I have to hide a new reel!!
  18. I did say "sort of" with a question mark in the heading, so that makes it ok
  19. Plenty of Daiwa reels out there with plastic side plates that are now legends. How about the old Alphas Ito, clear plastic and that reel still go's for $209 used
  20. Daiwa is killing me with their Japanese lineup. SS-SV, Alphas Sv, and on and on. I may pop on a 1016 just because at that price it's worth a try. Like you, the Zaion thing would probably annoy the crap out of me. fun stuff to agonize over isn't it?
  21. I'm basing my comments on the Tackle tour review of this reel, and I can tell you I'm rarely found at Kohls shopping the clearance racks. The original price that "someone" set wasn't some arbitrary number, it was Daiwa's asking price. The 1016 spool alone is in high demand to put into other reels and sold for $70. Full disclosure- I have never used or even handled a 1016 but Tackle warehouse clearanced them out at $200 so yes I would say its a good deal.
  22. I've been watching the auction site for a few weeks now and you can consistently get a brand new in the box Daiwa T3 1016 for $150. Gotta be the best $150 dollar reel going right now. I know a lot of people aren't crazy about the original T3 platform but the 1016 is a great reel. if memory serves it was a $350-$400 dollar reel and it got great reviews from Tackle Tour. I missed one today that ended at $129
