  1. O.K. you have roughly $200 to spend on a new reel. You are going to get a Daiwa, I say again you are going to get a DAIWA. which of the following would you choose and why. 1-Alphas SV 2-T3 1016 3-new model Zillion 4-Used Alphas Ito ai 5-Used TD-Z type R or R+ 6-other all can be had around this price
  2. I enjoy a good soup sandwich, problem is I can never figure out what hand to use the spork with
  3. Second one looks a lot like a jdm Abu Aurora and may be very similar. Even the handle looks like jdm Revo shop stuff. May be a really good reel---------or not. Still over priced. If they are Doyo factory reels using high end parts Abu is probably not real happy with them
  4. Tatula is a very sensitive rod at that price point, Fenwick Elite Tech is good as well.
  5. Tatula 7'1" mh Regular action is perfect for me. I use an original Zillion with 15# suffix siege but any reel with a little power will be fine
  6. I have the 7'2"- dead on what I think is MH. Also the 7'1"- would have to say it's a MH but on the lighter side but it has become one of my favorite rods, nice fast sensitive tip but a lot of backbone. And I have the 7'1" regular action which is a true MH with a slower action. I use it for big lipless rattle baits
  7. Wow, what a name from the past. I remember drooling over them in the Cabelas catalog 30 years ago
  8. Hey BB1 users, how do you all set your pins on the breaks??? I just can't seem to get mine dialed in. Will be using it for 1/2oz and up
  9. Had mine out today casting into a 30mph wind with no problem, didn't even have to keep the thumb close to the spool. Really amazing, and it was set on the normal casting setting. You do have to watch it a little on long cast setting, if you forget and cast into a good breeze you can blow up a spool pretty good. It cost me $25 worth of sniper to learn that lesson . My first casting reel that "did it" was a TD Advantage, but really it was a gen 2 Premier, really opened my eyes to what a quality reel could do. Never looked back after that reel
  10. Gen 1 Cumara 7'2" mh f with tuned Revo mgx Fenwick elite tech smallmouth w/ Daiwa Sol 2500
  11. 1/4-3/8 I'd go CI4. Or try to find a Daiwa T3 1016 on the Auction site.
  12. I'd take the White Ice, I truely believe you have to go fairly high up Loomis lineup to get what you pay for. Although I've never used the new Loomis so my opinion could change. That being said I'd take several other rods before either you mentioned. Avid, Tatula etc......
  13. sniper treated with KVD L&L is great. Just make sure you reel up any slack before a hard hook set. I've snapped Fluoro a few times because I didnt. Even snapped leaders while the knot held. Fluoro just doesn't like the big shock, but it does make an impressive sound when it snaps like that
  14. Keep the braid and use a 3 foot leader of 20# fluoro---///best of both worlds
  15. FYI the JDM TD-X is basically the same reel as the Fuego without the red finish. They are really just less refined Z's
  16. Yes, same handle and star as the X, never understood why the Sol went with the cheap handle. I guess weight was the reason
  17. I've tricked out a couple of Fuegos and used the 100M spool but I don't believe it is being made anymore so if you can find one grab it. The SV and 1016 spools would have to have spacers and the cost would get up quickly. I think the best spool choice would be the Zillion HLC, should run about $100 and it is supposed to help with lighter weights. The Tatula handle and drag star will fit or you could grab the TD advantage handle. Tackle trap has them all. I put the Zillion type R drag star on mine and it looks good. Hedge hog studios make some drag stars that are nice and a wide range of colors and they sell the Avail handle which is really nice. Tackle trap has them also. Spool choices are limited and the only other one I know of is a MegaBass honey comb that is over $200. Try flushing and relubing your spool bearings with a light high quality lube like Alchemy or Oust and you might be happy with the original spool.
  18. I would bet it is the rod. I've had 2 crank bait rods that were "dead" a Croix premier and a Powell endurance. Couldn't feel a rattle trap on them with mono. Braid will increase feel quite a bit but isn't ideal for cranking
  19. Normal for that rod of you are using mono
  20. your set up should be fine, you might try changing the color of the crankbait a little to see if you get a more aggressive strike, that's what the pro's do when they are hitting a crank light.
  21. What kind of line are you using? I like a fluoro without a lot of stretch (a familiar subject) it seemed to help me when using a moderate action rod. Don't forget sometimes bass will just head butt a crank and that's a tough hook up, basically have to hope to snag it on the side of the head. Had it happen to me last year with lipless cranks and I finally saw a bass do it up close a realized what was happening
  22. I have the 7'2" Tatula and its a great rod but for what you want to use it for the Tatula 7'4" frog and slop rod is perfect. I have it also and it is a phenomenal rod for the money. It can also handle big football jigs with ease. I would choose either of the Daiwa Tatulas over the Croix premier as for the other rods I can't comment
  23. which Cabelas reel is it, how old. it could be a Tatula or an Advantage. I'd go Lews for frogging,
