  1. I fish mostly around Genesee County. There are a lot of good rivers and streams off the Great Lakes. Just double check the regulations before you go as they have some special regulations. I am not too familiar with the fishing there as it is a long drive there for me and gas is getting pricey for 2-2.5 total drive time. I am sure there are people that are familiar with the waters. There are also local bait shops there. Orleans Outdoor, Captains Cove, Narbys and also one across Oak Orchard, I forgot his name though. I recommend Captains Cove and the store across Oak Orchard from them. Every time I have been there they are also friendly and help you out. For more information you can visit the fishing reports on the DEC hot lines. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/fishhotlines.html The info there is usually pretty good.

I went out fishing with my father the other night. He went to grab a drink and when he did he lost the top of his 2 piece pole. Dang turtles lol.
  3. Hi and welcome to the forums. If you want to look for public fishing there Google Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. I would link it but I am not sure if that is against the rules. Good luck in your search and enjoy the forums.
  4. Don't know if you have had a look there yet but its a good start. http://www.bassresource.com/bassfish/bass_fishing_clubs.html
  5. I prefer longer rods. I also use soft plastics and crank baits a good bit. For cranks it helps with casting distance. With the carolina rig longer rods will help move more line during hook set in turn getting better hook sets. I also like using mh-h rods that are long near heavy cover to pull the fish out easier using braided line. Shorter rods have advantages to, like casting in smaller areas. I am sure there are probably a lot of things I am missing but these are what I know and am comfortable giving advice on.
  6. Also just an FYI is harvesting fish there. Can only take 2 black bass and minimum size is 14 inches, limit of 1 trout and one walleye/yellow pike which must be 18 inches. All other species follow NYS regulations.
  7. I have fished there a lot quite recently. Caught a 2.5 pound bass but my average has been about 10-12 inch. I wouldn't say its over fished but it is becoming more fished since they have been cleaning the park up. One reason I am starting to fish else where because I like peace and quite while I am fishing. There are quite a few schools of small mouth dinks in there though if you are just looking to catch quantity.
  8. I myself am a bank bum. Crank baits can be a good option to help you cover some water and find active fish. One thing I have learned is fishing from the bank try 1-2 techniques fan casting. If after working these areas for 15-30 minutes I get nothing I find a new spot and repeat the process. Once you find some active fish you can try the slower presentations like t-rig or jigs. I have also recently gotten a pair of polarized sun glasses and they can help you in seeing under water cover where bass might be holding in.
  9. Thanks for all the great responses. I went out and purchased a couple jigs in different sizes and colors with some trailers. Made sure I got black and blue because that color has served me well in soft plastics where I fish. Nothing like learning a new technique to keep things fresh and fun. We will see how things go, looks like nothing but a jig for the next few times out.
  10. I get excited whenever I catch any fish. A day catching a fish beats a day with none. For the area around me anything 2.5+ above average.
  11. I have only started recently fishing, for a little over a year now. I have become very confident in Texas rigging and wacky rigging as well as top waters like poppers frogs and buzz baits. I want to get away from those confidence baits and try something new. I feel being out of your comfort zone is the best way to improve. I was wondering what you all would recommended to try that compliment the baits I am already comfortable with. Some information on the waters I fish are small mouth fisheries. One is a creek with a d**n which has a rocky bottom and some submerged timber. The other is an old quarry with many big rocks and timber lining the shorelines. I was thinking of either trying jigs or crank baits. Do you guys think these would be good or would other baits be better suited for these conditions? Thanks, Shane
  12. I finally decided to join the forum after repeatedly coming here for information on fishing. I am relatively new to a thinking way of fishing. I grew up fishing with my father but never gave thought to the fishes behavior. Mostly into small mouth bass as that is what is common around here. Thanks to help from this site I caught my PB yesterday of just under three pounds. Well looking forward to my experience here and best of luck to all of you on the water.
