  1. I'm pretty sure delaware is correct. A lot of these line conditioners are just silicone spray in a 10 dollar 4oz bottle.. this might explain why they neglect to list the ingredients of their line conditioning product. I used some home depot bought silicone spray shot onto a cotton rag and ran the line through it the last time I re-spooled and had good results. However, maybe kvd's is something better? No clue.
  2. So yesterday I ordered a Lews Tournament Pro in their left handed model. That silly little Lews sticker came right off like I had read about. Luckily there is not a recessed spot on the reel for it so it will remain in the box. The deciding factors really came down to weight and size of the reel. If it fit in my hands and felt as light as my abu I knew I would be more comfortable handling it. The third factor was definitely price. I was able to get my Lews TP for 153 dollars from tackle warehouse thanks to their low price match guarantee. Got the reel in this afternoon and spooled it with 12# Yozuri Hybrid and put it on my new Powell Endurance 723C rod. So far I love the way it balances and the Lews TP is slightly slimmer/smaller than my Premier as expected. I was going to go to a golf course for a night session but today was a long one so I'm waking early tomorrow to hit my local pond. Thanks for your help everyone!
  3. Sorry for the hiatus sirs. I was on a little three day fishing/camping trip. I was exactly where you were at deciding between a new reel company or the gen3 abu premier. Let us know how you like the new reel though! I handled a couple chronarchs and curados on Monday. I did enjoy their simplicity but the feel of the aluminum/graphite combo they have on the reels kind of "felt cheap" to me. They are slightly heavier than my abu and it seemed they were a little stiffer and rigid when I was cranking them but it could have just been the floor models I was checking out. I can't stand that green on the curado but overall I liked how they fit in my hand and my girlfriend really liked the chronarch's aesthetics as well. I do feel more.comfortable with a smaller reel. I've grown accustomed to the size of my Abu and I have shorter wider fingers. Those were some of the first things I noticed about Shimano vs Abu/Lews. I do know the other reel companies offer higher performance numbers and more features to compete. However, simpler has usually been something thats better in my experiences. Thanks for the helpful info! I have to tell you gentlemen that after doing some more light reading & research and listening to you on here I made my decision today. I'm not quite ready to dissapoint some of you while making others happy. I will tell you that it was between Lews and Shimano entirely in the end and I will be purchasing the one that was not decided upon for my next bait casting setup. I still want to talk reels with you all because it's been informative. I was able to really narrow down all of the options I was considering at the beggining with your guys direction and help. Thank you all!
  4. This is great advice. However, this forum alone is not the only outlet for my research. Like new2BC4bass said, "not all of us have access to stores where we can handle great products." We especially don't have access to certain products I am interested in using. We do however has access to the internet and within a matter of minutes I can view every product review, forum, article, and product specification. Although that can be more overwhelming then handling the product itself, if you can weed through the bias and bs it's very helpful to making an educated decision/purchase. Like you said anyways, "It's pretty hard these days to get a really bad reel." I certainly have not purchased a reel yet.. I always sleep on it and continue to read, read, read. Actually right now I'm still deciding between the Lews and the Shimano Chronarch 200e. They are a couple of the few companies I can get a left handed model from. I noticed this immediately and its probably why I'm drawn towards the reel, haha. Like I said I'm open to the idea of a chronarch or even a curado.. I've not come to a decision yet. Daiwa just seems too far out of my price range for whats available to me and what I want. Thanks boss.
  5. So he's a dealer or just an owner? They are brand spankin' new?
  6. Totally agree. After some review reading, research, and comparison, I think I'm sold on Lews Tourney Pro. They are releasing new models like other companies in the fall but for 100 dollars less Im ok with their current model. I can get the tourney pro for 180, but do you guys think they might go on sale because of the new Lews reels that will drop in September? Maybe worth waiting a month or two?
  7. I am going to look into them Clary. Thanks for your help here and with the powell rods. I am calling the company directly tomorrow and if I get the info im looking for ordering my whole set up! I am aware of this, but I own last years abu premier. I want to try something else recommended on here. Thanks brotha! I'm going to check it out right now. Thanks. I'm not entirely opposed to it. I just want to explore other companies. I love my shimano spinning reel.
  8. Im not going to try shimano, but I am totally intrigued by Lews. Have any of you had the opportunity to use both a Lews tournament pro and an abu garcia revo premier and have a little compare and contrast for me?
  9. Thanks Jerzeed. How do you feel the patriarch stands against reels like abu's premier or lews tourney pro. I believe all of these reels are in the $200 price range. Perhaps at that point it comes down to your confidence in the manufacturer and their warranty. I imagine the variables in what they offer in relation the the next reel are minute. I also heard Shimano no longer manufactures out of Japan or something along those lines and their quality has subsequently suffered. I still love my stradic spinning reel regardless.
  10. Thanks New2bc4bass. The consumer in me just wants to wait for the newest/latest revo. However, I have been looking at the Lews Tourney Pro particularly because of all the buzz on this forum about the reel company. A matte black reel with the purple and matte black powell endurance just might be a sexy little combo and that doesn't hurt Edit: I agree that at least I shouldn't stick to one brand of reel considering I haven't tried anything but my revo so far.
  11. Yozuri hybrid, izorline xxx copolymer, & trilene sensation are lines I've heard nothing but good things about and they are very reasonably priced.
  12. This was just recently posted. Bps is doing a pq/carbonlite combo sale. This is in the $160 dollar range. http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Pro-Qualifier-Reel/CarbonLite-Trigger-Rod-Baitcast-Combos/product/12041705055310/460726
  13. What is it you like about Pflueger? What model(s) do you have? My problem is I know I like my abu garcia but it really is my first bait casting reel.. I like its size/palm-ability and it is easy to maintain. Its a very light and comfortable reel. I don't have a lot of problems with backlashes. It seems smooth to me but what can I compare that too? Nothing at this point.
  14. So I am ordering a new powell rod this week and I am now looking at reels to pair with it. I have an Abu Revo Premier on my medium duckett and absolutely love it! However, I don't want to buy the same reel for my powell because I want to try other options. Part of me wants to wait until september for the new revo's year I want to remain open to other reels. I have been fishing since I can remember, but a couple years ago I became serious about bass fishing. I want to hear your opinions on other reels/companies I should consider for less or the same amount of cash as a revo premier. What do you guys think? Should I just stick with abu or venture out?
  15. Yeah Im thinking the same right now BASSclary since I don't think I have a lure heavier than 1/2oz anyways...
  16. One more question: Do you guys own Powell rods in a MH or H? Is the MH stiff or is the H more like your typical MH blank? I just want something that I can throw shallow cranks, topwater, and jigs/texas rigged plastics and Im stuck thinking the heavy might be too much of a heavy jig rod and not something more versatile. Thanks. Edit: I am going to call Powell on Monday and talk to them and get their opinion as well... I don't know why I didn't think of that last week ._.
  17. Ok.. I think Im going to go ahead and throw down the bills for either the MH or H Powell Endurance. I'm going to sleep on it and order it either this weekend or monday at the latest. Thanks for your help BASSclary, smr913, Bass_Fanatic, and everyone else. Hope all goes well with this as I'm pretty excited.
  18. Still my one worry is the extra fast tip.. is it easy for your to maintain constant tension on a fish while fighting it especially in open water?? I like these rods a lot so far. I just wish they came with a fast action tip like the rest of the rods in its price range.
  19. Thats also something I was wondering.. all of my current rods have a fast action tip. The extra fast tip means that the rod will have a stiffer backbone and flex at less than one third of the rods tip when I set the hook correct? Both the MH and H are rated for a bait that weighs as little as 1/4oz. So perhaps going with the Heavy which is 7'1" vs the MH which is 7'2" (random difference) is a better call incase I want to be more confident when throwing a heavier bait. I just want to make sure I have all my bases covered as I can't physically hold a Powell until I purchase it and have it delivered... bummer. I am also worried that with and xfast rod tip vs a fast I will not be able to maintain a proper amount of tension on the fish as these rods tend to return to a resting point very quickly.
  20. Adding to my last post.. I am curious as to why the Powell rods seem to be rated for lighter rigs than shimano MH rods or st croix. It says the the MH Powell I am looking at is for a 1/4-3/4oz bait and the others are rated for up to a 1oz bait. The same goes for Powells heavy rod witch goes up to 1oz where as competitors allow for up to 1 1/2 ounces. I am thinking that I might as well get something that can handle the heavier baits for more versatility in the long run..
  21. Haha, I was reading reviews and watched the tackle warehouse video and he picked up the medium heavy I was considering and said its perfect for texas rigged larger worms and a 3/8th to 3/4 oz jig... so I suppose that answers my question..
  22. I haven't had trouble pulling fish out of my waters with a medium. It's just that when I am constantly bending and whipping my rod tip back pulling through the thicker cover I feel like I lose a lot of the rod sensitivity because its too weak/whippy the grass in my area. Also, I want a rod that can handle throwing my larger buzzbaits, square bills, jigs, texas rigged worms, and possibly carolina rigs that weigh anywhere from 3/8th to 3/4th oz. So based upon those variables I am wondering what the better call will be. Trying to throw something that heavy on my medium feels like I am reeling in a fish every cast.
  23. Do you guys think Medium Heavy or Heavy is more applicable to my specifications. I just want something thats not going to feel like I'm pulling a fish through the cover.
  24. Thanks BASSclary. I read your review and I'm almost sold. I especially enjoyed the part about lifetime warranty . Have you had good experiences with their customer support? Revamped meaning the prices of current cumaras will drop and I should snag one on sale? Or the current cumaras are in need of some improvement. I was looking at the 7'11" ones and it seems like it may be overkill. I'll check out Denalis tonight thanks bud.
  25. Right now I have a finesse spinning setup and a medium/fast action micro guided duckett paired with a revo premier. I've been considering purchasing a medium heavy (possibly heavy) bait caster for my heavier baits and the thicker cover I tend to find myself fishing on a regular basis. I like my rods and reels to be versatile and able to handle a variety of baits/fishing situations. I am hoping some of you will share your favorite rod/reel combinations. I have been looking at quite a few different casting rods and so far I am interested in the shimano cumara, powell endurance, and st croix mojo bass rods. As for the reel I love my abu garcia so I might be waiting until september to get the new premier but I am open to anyones suggestions. Thanks for reading!
