  1. What kind of Yozuri do you use? The hybrid or fluoro?
  2. Thanks Sam. I'm always at a place with cover and some sort of structure so thanks for the tips. I always take needle nose pliers I'm not a complete disaster.
  3. don't do this to me! its a consumers nightmare in the fishing world.. i get bombarded with too many options and I end up overwhelmed and conflicted. then i over think things when making a choice... it gets expensive! ahha
  4. Good to know about vanish. It was the first fluoro I've tried mainly because it was cheap and available at walmart. Im going to be making a trip up to the closest bass pro and Ill check out a nice fluoro up there. I do still need to invest in a line conditioner and kvd's has been recommended to me multiple times. The problem with braid is i have to tie on a liter and with micro guides that would make it difficult no? Having a big long liter to cast makes distance a difficult thing to achieve. Thanks for your help bassclary.
  5. haha this little guy was hooked right through the eyes. its illegal to use live bait at this lake so that opportunity was out of the question. thank goodness for the extra wide gap hook on the back or i woulda lost him.
  6. When I spool I only apply a pinch of pressure on the line but I'll lessen that pressure this next time around. I hope this is my own error and not the reel. It luckily is all still under warranty.
  7. I have noticed mini backlashes kinking the line and some of the snaps have resulted from pulling the backlashed line out. This probably is what is snapping later on. The line I bought is about a year old. I do replace it regularly. I will go buy some fresh line and spool that on this time since I am obviously in need of more now. Thanks for the help. I will do the scotch tape trick as well as check the guides/reel with a q tip. I do think its isolated to the reel though because it never occurs along the guides but instead at the reel itself. Thanks for the help! I use trilene vanish fluorocarbon on my finesse spinning rod. However, I have read that fluorocarbon is something to be used as a liter because it becomes brittle from sun exposure and has a lot of memory. Is this correct? Also, I use this bait caster for topwater although it does serve other purposes so mono was what I assumed would be useful.
  8. I checked the line guide and it looks/feels fine. Is having a low amount of line something that can cause the line to snap/cut like that? Or are you as confused as me? :/
  9. Its trilene big game 10# This happened once when I was running low on line. I re-spooled and had no issues until the line was running low a second time.
  10. Caught this toad on the Caribbean shad color.
  11. I have an abu garcia revo premier with a duckett medium micro magic rod 7'. Recently when the line on my spool begins to run low I lose all my ability to cast at a distance and if I really try to throw my bait far sometimes the spool makes a loud buzzing sound and cuts the line. I keep my premier in great shape and losing the ability to cast far with a low amount of line makes sense because the line is peeling off a smaller circumference and slapping against the micro guides. However, I can't figure out why its cutting my line. The drag and break are not set too high. Is this something that is normal or possibly a defect in the reel? Thanks for reading.
  12. Ok, after some thinking last night and taking what you guys are saying into consideration, I decided to not get a Jackall square bill. I got a little excited about something new and pretty. I do know that certain shad colors are more productive at the same depth and presentation as for example sexy shad. I used the same lure in different colors at my lake with a ton more success with a specific more natural color. I guess my next question is what are some shallow cranks (square bills and wake baits) that have an action/profile that you guys prefer? The fish in my lakes really like rick clunns luck e strike's which are about 6 bucks a pop not including replacement hooks. Thanks for your responses they are definitely helpful.
  13. I have been doing really well with square bills lately and I'm sort of hooked on cranking. I am located in southern california. I picked up some of Rick Clunns square bills from Walmart and I have had luck on sexy shad and especially the real shad color. Real shad has a black top, clear sides and a white-ish bottom with a dab of chartreuse on the gills. Anyways, I lost a few of my crankbaits to some standing timber on my last trip out to the water and I want to replenish and buy a few from Jackall. They are expensive but its my money and I love the company. I have been looking at their new Aska 60. However, as I tend to over-think things and there are too many options I am hung up on color. I am stuck between chartreuse shad, super shad, and tennessee shad and I'm definitely not OK with buying all three especially when they are so similar. I have done some reading and it has reaffirmed/simplified what I know that works for my waters: chart/shad colors. I was wondering if you guys could help direct me towards what color I should try out. Tennesee shad has the combo of colors that do well: black top, a little green through the side, and a orange dab on the belly kinda like a bluegill. However, the super shad has that ghost minnow quality that bass love but its very similar to the rick clunn real shad that I already have. Can I not go wrong here? I have also been looking at Jackalls cherry zero footer and I like the aurora black color because I have always wanted to try something that can suspend over the thick cover at my lake and I want to try an american shad colored bait. I apologize for the rambling ahead of time and thanks for reading.
  14. Hey everyone! I've been fishing since I was too young to remember. Last summer I became serious about large mouth bass fishing. I bought myself a float tube and a couple new rods and reels. I was hitting my local spot in Carlsbad called Calaveras Lake. It's free a free place to fish and I was averaging about 4 largemouths a day. I went back up north to school for spring but now I am home in SoCal indefinitely. I have been hitting the lakes close to me but so far things have been slower than last summer. I am here to learn all I can about largemouth fishing which means I'll likely be doing more reading and less posting, but I'll be around! Looking forward to learning new things and meeting some of you because I know most bass fisherman have forgotten more than I know about the sport. :3 Cheers from North County!
