  1. NuCanoe, but they run around $1200 for the new frontier. You could find a used one or get the older model for around $600.

I read the same article. I'd like to fall in the category of Aaron and Gary, but I'm afraid I am in Gerald Swindle's category lol. I am getting more organized with my tackle these days. I don't like spending most of my time "tackle fishing" in the box.
  3. To be a successful co-angler you have to be versatile. 99% of the time you are stuck fishing what the boater decides, so you have to be able to adjust. I suggest going out and "fun fish" lures you are not confident with. Get confident with them. If you are a deep water guy, go out and force yourself to fish shallow. That way the next time it comes up, you will be ready to fish shallow cover, etc.
  4. Great write up. Thanks for the report.

Very nice fish. Congrats to both of you.
  6. If you haven't already, I would contact Game & Fish ASAP. If they can't physically help, they will provide you with advice on how to legally do it.
  7. I'm all about CPR (Catch, Photograph, Release), but some states require such lengthy "verification" of the catch (dorsal fin samples, tracking down Game & Fish, etc) that it would do extreme harm to the fish to have her out of the water that long. Also, in this particular incident, if he would have released the fish after the Warden weighed the fish the first time (improperly), it would have just been a big catch, not the State Record. Although, nothing wrong with a "big catch" lol. I'm not sure what I would have done in that situation, would have been really hard to keep/kill the fish. But I'm not going to fault the guy.
  8. I agree, all good choices. I would choose #20 then #18.
  9. I'm without a boat right now but I can rent a boat/trolling motor at my home lake for $15 / day. The lake is closed to "personal boats" because of zebra mussels. So I'm in need of a portable fish finder with side view. Anybody have any good suggestions? Thanks!
  10. I use to own one when I lived in Florida and fished from a boat a lot. With me just moving to Nebraska, I fish 100% from the shore as I don't have my boat anymore. So I just go by the good ole moon light now . Plus, I don't fish soft plastics that much at night, so little need for me to be a line watcher at night. All though my eyes stay glued to my line during the day when fishing softies.
  11. I try to get to the lake between 3-4AM, throw a buzzbait or jitterbug. I've gotten some nice fish before dawn. After the sun rises, the hybrids / largemouth start herding the shad into the coves, then I target them. Big bass can be caught anytime of the day or night. All depends on when big mamma wants to move up to her feeding station. Even if she isn't feeding, you can still get reactionary strikes as big bass are extremely territorial.
  12. Fishing at night isn't much different than fishing during the day. As far as colors, go with solid dark colors (black, blue). When I fish at night I throw a black buzzbait, black spinner bait w/ 1 colorado blade, or a black jitterbug. My favorite is the buzzbait, caught plenty of nice fish when I lived in Florida. Not anymore, only Northern strain bass now Big worms also work good, just slow them down. Also, you might want to take the moon phases into consideration when fishing at night. If you senko fish, grab a blacklight so you will be able to see your line, a lot of big fish grab the senko and you'll never fell them. You'll just see your line moving toward the deep or off to the side.
  13. Sorry to bump an old topic. Do you have a link to his facebook page?
