Trolling Motor Questions..
70gamefisher! I sent you a PM. My minkota 40 maxmizer last all day at varible speeds on my 12 ft, boat. My electronics use a diffrent 12 batt. I make lake makes so I'm hauling alot of battery weight ( two deep cycles ) on the little boat. Weeds in the prop are a big battery killer per outing, I think.

Meadowgrounds water update...PA
I desided to go with the great internet. Cost more for maps but no inventory for me .

Interesting theory
Sorry ! I was thinking seagulls. Every time the stripers are thrashing the lakes around here the seagulls are in follow mode. I'm not thinking loon or heron. I'm thinking action!

Meadowgrounds water update...PA
Your right about the price of fuel bad Karma42. Thats why I said 09. Takes me down to two lakes a year at best. Yes! it would expose your secret spots. I screen the whole lake just like the others and evrything (fishable structure) is exposed. A depthfinder and chart plotter ain't goin to help a whole lot. I I.D. the structure > not guess shadrap1769. e-mail me and I'll give you my site. Thanks for asking. Mark!

Interesting theory
False ! I get ahead of the birds and wait for the big push from the big fish schooling up the bait fish. Behind the birds is the left over injured/dead bait that are free meals for the birds your chasing away. Staying ahead and still . your ready for a ambush. Stay with or ahead of the action NOt behind it.

So BAD K ! Whats your opinion on mapping the meadow grounds. Is the lake worth it? I'm thinking in 2009. Already booked for 2008.

humminbird side imaging
Its sonar and so its a depthfinder rule not a fishfinder as commercializing wants you to think.) Its not a underwater camera so its sonar and may not show fish and for sure not show what kind of fish. So its a great breakthrew for sonar and someday we can only hope that it can show pictures like a UC but in all conditions like sonar. They need to m,ake the price more affordable.Using a UC in murky water or over a target is spooky. So we need a Underwater camera that works with sonar system.

lakes turning over
I think he means your question is a little bland. I was wondering if you really know what a turnover is and what happens as it takes place twice a year. Just trying to hone in on exactly what your asking . I'm not being rude , just trying to see what your really looking at.

Two shops gone in one month!
The small tacle shops triangle > Here in South Central Pa. I have Bass Pro just 3 miles down the road , Gander Mountain 1.5 miles , Dicks 1.5 miles, Wal-mart 5 miles and that Cabella's 50 miles. Now that sunk about 4 tackle shops life out and the 4 that are still doing busines have something that makes them diffrent like wholesale or reel repairs or something else solid besides just the shop. True they can't buy in bulk like the big stores and there warehouses but don't forget that the fisherman has learned to buy on line and saves except for local "fresh bait". This also hurts the maw & paw stores.

North American Fishing Club
Original Question! and I think your from Pa. right? We have alot of free sites in this state. I vote > "don't do it" I did it for 3 years . Here is what I can say from experience > Any N.A.F.C. life member is going to tell you how great it is because they are stuck in deep DO DO for the life of the club ( suckers). What you get for $12 ( 12 or 15 ) > 12 months of begin you to be a lifer and each time it will be a offer $12 less than the last time. A test product every 14 months ( they need to take two months to threaten you dis-membership).If you don't send back your test form > you don't ever get a test product ( value $5 or less ). You will not be the guy who tests and keeps the 60K bass boat or any other item over $30 for lifer or $10 per year man. Make sure you tell them "NO BOOKS " or you'll be sending them back with postage. I belong to or stay active on 12 sites in this state at no cost. Oh! They give you 6 magazines a year and they are filled with 80% advertisments. Good luck.

Anyone know of where to get a topo map for Mauch Chunk Lake
I'am able to do that if its worth the info to my mapping. Many lakes (manmade) have removed the original road bed and excavated the area. So what 's left does not represent the original except areas of flooded farmland. This is the time a hydro is made if its ever released to the public. Every State Park has a copy and infact every waterway I've done has a hydro in save keeping of someones office. The only nice thing about maps before a lake is created is that I can spot non tillable land and that means HARD rock base. Oh well ! just thought I share that wth you.

Anyone know of where to get a topo map for Mauch Chunk Lake
Muddy ! A TOPO??? WHAT? Do you mean a "HYDROGRAPHIC " map? You can down load topographic maps online today. The only topo that will show whats under the water is a original topo before the lake was made or a hydro that shows how the lake contours look under water. Can't help you yet > My company has not yet expanded NE. When we do I'll do that lake ( Structure detail it ).

charging a trolling battery
Im with brokejew ! 10/2 system. recharge asap after use and use that 2 amp the night before to make sure. I don't suggest maintance free. I like seeing what the cells are holding. No need to pro rate cause I keep the cells topped and by looking at the lead plates I can tell if a cell is dying . Maint free strips you of this and then your stuck with a dead battery in a lake and you'll be rowing it in. A charger is charging 100% charge of whats left of the cell. 100% does not mean its 100% charged like a new battery. So if my battery only has 1/2 its tol. life left then I have 100% of 50% cell life at the end of the charge cycle. Now this is for deep cycle wet batteries not GEL!

Is aluminum boat OK in salt water?
My aluminum boat started out in saltwater bays back in 1958 for 12 yrs and over 36 yrs of fresh water. Never had a loose rivit either. Lucky ? I say quality. The make is no longer made ( duro tech).I'm looking for 20 more years. Its dull looking but that helps not spooking fish.

Need help reading Topo maps
CATT ! Untill I research this lake that lard_bass is fishing , I would say it sounds like a small impoundment and in this State (same State) small impoundments can and will be changed from its original shape and depths making a topo incorrect. Even road beds are taken out in the centers of the waterway . Hydro's here ar created mostly as the impoundment is under contruction and not filled yet. They are limited to size and very rarely under 300 acres in size but much preferable for watter supply. I on't know of anyone making a hydro after a lake is made around here and most all topo's show topo info before the impoundment was created or else its just a solid color if a later date.

Need help reading Topo maps
lard_bass . Your from Pitt. right? I think we talked online before. You need a Hydrographic map not a topo if possible. Many impoundments have changed from the original topo shape as they are built. Many of Pa. lakes have a Hydrographic and the ones that don't you can figure out . What lake ? Need help . give me a shout and some info. on the lake. I am a map maker in S.C. PA. MARK

TOPWATER A SOUTH THING? never in PA???
Back to the original complaint! Lake VS Pond . Give me a bass pond that is off limits to fishing and I'll make any top water lure into a T.V. show performance. Now give me a lake thats hammerd all the time by fishermen and all the available lures and I'll show you spooked fish that takes a "change - up " to make the fish bite. Whats that mean to you? Use a lure that imitates what the fish are after and matched to the conditions normally work best and then there is always un answerd hook-ups. Some fish you just can't read. PA. has no secret spots and most all impoundments are accessable unlike Canada as they have miles of untouched water. So we are a hard worked waterway on impoundments and rivers in this State unlike many other remote area's in the country.

When morning water is cold, fish shallow or deep?
Because your in Pittsburgh ! This is just a first wave account (cold front) . This cold front with 20 mph winds is not a charm. Fish hold tight for whatever reason . The fish back off on Cold fronts > I don't know why? Sunday following the front fish started back up slowly as the calm day progressed. This is not a sustained cold temp. ( 4-5days) and only effects the first two ft. You got time yet before a sustained cool temp. sets in and causes turnover. Fish slower on the following or calm day that follows.

low oxygen levels in lakes
in my story the thermocline did not produce fish and thermocline was not present by use of electronic testing but the D.O. was at 4-5 ppm at the 12 - 16 ft. depths it did have fish in pockets. The 12 ft was just out of range of the 8ft. sun penetration (secchi disk tested) and the varible was 4 ft. This was the compressed zone (12-16 ft) (@ 4-5 ppm D.O.). The weed line at 9 ft. depth produced a 8ppm D.O. and the spring at 8-9 ppm. How do you get a meter? I got on line and serched but I also got one from Bass Pro online. Prices can range from $40 to $200 on the net depending on the quality.

low oxygen levels in lakes
Without going into deep science let me just say this> I don't know what the depths of your lake are or any general make-up. So here is a example since I work with this subject. Fishing a manmade lake with maximun depths no grater than say 40 ft. OK! I don't find thermoclines here in July and the water is like a bath tub. Testing the temp. we have cold water at the bottom and warm on top. NO ONES CATCHING FISH! I test the D.O. with a meter and find that water below 20 ft depths is from 2ppm D.O. to 0 D.O. meaning that the depths are "DEAD SPACE". We know the fish are in the lake! I know that I need 4ppm D.O. min. for most game fish and ideal would be 8 or 9. Searching the upper 15 ft. depths for D.O. of 4+ was the key. I located 1 spring and a few weed lines at 9 ft. depths that so many didn't know about. Getting now a 6 to 8 ppm in certain locations spells fish. Next I use a underwater camera and there are the fish. It doesen't mean they will bite but I found there "'COMFORT ZONE". I also found a compressed zone at a depth of 12-16 ft. depth that host suspended schools of fish. Yet I got people telling me there are no fish . CATFISH,CARP & SUCKERS can withstand low D.O. rates for long periods of time and still be active but not bass and other high energy fish. Conclusion> Finding fish is half the fun, but doesn't mean they will be bitting. I make maps and show the productive area's and what your talking about is common and happens alot on hot dry weeks. Your answer> Yes! find structure in there comfort zone and you WILL increase your catch. Structure in the dead zone will not produce.
