NAFC Bass Strategies Book
ONCE your taken on the book club thing > You will learn never to do it again. I learned about this type of deal back in 1977 and so as I joined the nafc , I said right away "NO"! and don't expect this club to be sending you $$$ electronics or boats to test. The monthly drawing is worse yet! 1 in a 1000,000,000

NAFC Bass Strategies Book
Right from the start you tell them you don't want books and don't send any. After a few years and it costing you $15 a year to use the message board and 6 magazines , You'll catch on and drop them before they try to make you a life member that is told to you every two months. Your test products will proable never net worth $5 each. More less. I got rid of them my 4th year. Don't miss them at all. Life member ? RIGHT! Tell me another one.

bulk hooks
You got a half dozen choices. The more you buy the cheaper but staying with one brand or two is slimming it. I'll check my old list and send you mail. Much lower price than B.P. or that other one. I'm talking 100 - 1000 ct. orders.

Any use for Aqua VU's
As Garnet was saying and adding to it ! Aqua-vu will show you just how much your getting false signals and thats VS all depthfinders. Its a new toy but you will learn what a depthfinder is really viewing and how much you were missing. The down side ? Murky water! No longer fun and games if the water is muddy or chaulky.

north american fishing club
I agree with most all above and after joing for 3 years in 2000. I found its so much better to let membership run-out and then they beg you back at 1/2 price. So much is spent trying to get you to be a life member that its no wonder they don't have anything other than dollar store tester kits. I'm told that> don't ever fall for the book testing. Infact > what I did years ago when I joined . I told them NO BOOKS and never had to play the shipping game that others fell into ($$). The magizine you get is 80%+ commercials. I say join for 2 years (1 at a time) and then spend a lifetime telling others NOT too!

Depth Finders
Owners manuals are a must untill you tried all the features and understand them. The Lowrance site will teach you what you want to know and it does own EAGLE. I also suggest finding water that you can see deeper than 3 ft. depth and watch how your finder shows the bottom compared to whats really below the boat ie(stumps, brush, fish ect.).Also try to visit a lake under drawdown and study the bottom and contour and when they fill it in check your finder to see how good it reads and how it applys what your looking at.

air brush starter
Don't forget that you will need a air compressor. Co2 cans will not cut it. You need a constant air flow at your own settings.

Depth Finder Issue--Bottom Line 480
simulation is software program and no transducer required. The problem will not be resolved or trouble shooted from that mode.

Fish finder technology
Its possible for some of the $$$ units to use enough power to cut threw clutter (weeds density) to find objects suspended below but not I.D. fish. I hear from ole pro's with the flasher units of the 70's say that they can tell what type of fish it is! W H A T ? More like your catching a mess of bluegill or perch and your betting the next bite( #99) is that type of fish! Like you have a crystal ball or something. Icon or NO Icon > its just a object on the bottom or suspended off the bottom. Now a underwater camera will show the type of fish but is it worth it at $300 +. A fish finder is just a sales name for "DEPTHFINDER" and " COLOR models aren't going to deside what kind of fish it is either ( just a guess from the crystal ball) just for people who can't read black/white or just plain like the fancy new screen look . Just a opinion!

Brushpiles Where and When?
Like RAUL said > The brush will not be permenate. Take a look at old brush piles after a few years as a lake is being drawn-down for repair. All that is left is a few sticks and maybe a few concrete blocks. In Pennsylvania you can't go dropping on a public lake with out permission or atleast don't get caught.

deep cycle suggestions
Wal-mart got BIG warehouses. That means there is no telling how long the battery sat (in years) before getting to the shelf. At wal-mart a typical depthfinder can be 2 years old, thank goodness they have a one year warr. from day of purchase. I did some shopping > ie( WAL-MART,DICKS,GANDER MTN.,BASS PRO) all within 4 miles of my house and only "Battery Warehouse" was found to have batteries being sold with the same year date on them and most with-in 6 months. Options? Deep cycle, wet, dry, gell! I don't know what the effects are of long time shelf storage with batteries only showing 20% life at purchase till you charge em up for all day and night. Just sounds like it would cut the life of a battery VS a new battery just 6 months out of the Mfc. plant.

in your expert opinion
Maybe I missed something here but did I read "PROBABLE 6' deep ??? We don't have enough info on this lake. Did I also see that it has 30+" pike ? I have to ask > Is this a private lake or open to the public? Have you ever gone out on this lake? or just walk around it taking guesses. Does it recieve fishing pressure ? . Car7! I understand! It going to hold some big bass but per size of lake as Car7 said. I'm with the bass doc also. I have a lake near my home that is( Lilly pads) weed chocked from June to Oct. and the rest of the time garbage. Its 3 feet deep + 3 feet mud. About 80 acres. No one fishes because they can't get aboat in and if they wade they probable never be seen again. Only a few places to shore fish (very limited) Its got bass galore and I've seen some big ones in spring that would make a run for the record .(state record) and so the story goes> Size or depth of lake will not block a trophy bass . How many it holds is a factor. If you go to a small farm pond (2acres) that allows no fishing and has bass > your going to find a few big ones but a small number (over 5 lbs) compared to the rest of the population. You can fish a small pond out but its going to take alot more to fisha 25 acre lake out. I think you ought to spend more time on the lake and you'll find your answers.

home made lure?
bassmaster ! I can make any replica thats a min. of 3" in lenth. Show me a picture and I can produce it out of white pine , red oak or maple. Simple! Start experimenting with trashed broom sticks and then advance to wood dowel. I also use a mimi lathe . lures are in two shapes > "ROUND" (cylinder) or "FLAT". I use white pine slats for flat lures. Balance of the lure is the most time comsumming. It takes alot of time to make a custom solid wood lure . Zarra spook is the easyest to copy. I have a nack for making them but others struggle. Most of my lures are for toothy fish > musky, pike, bluefish.

Lake advice needed.
Like Marty says > If you can see them > they can see you ! Not good. If your after the bass then I would choose dusk and whatever they are after. In my state (PA) I would use small live bluegill or sunfish under a bobber. Or air inject a collar of a night crawler and let it surface.

questions about riveted boats
I agree with > "not all rivit boats leak" > My rivit utility boat from 1958 is still serving me every outing (Every Saturday) @ a rate of 7 months a year. It was out 12 weekends a year till 2004 and now its on the water over 25 times a year (lakes and saltwater bays). (12ft boat)

Advice / best way to use livebait?
If I'm still fishing I hooker in the back and if I'm trolling its threaded and if I'm drifting its threw the lips. For drifting and still fishing > cut of a fin from its side so that it goes in circles and in distress. Fish love it! and with worms > air inject the collar and send it a foot of the bottom or float it on the weeds. the air will make that worm work!

Largemouth or Smallmouth?
When they are in the same lake > I found them in diffrent sections from each other. The lgm is always bigger and the smb is always fighting the hardest. I like them equal like that. For Fla. people who never got one > Its like a rockbass(smb) fight VS a bluegill (lmb). There is a diffrent fight all together. To the one who said the fish were small that they caught > Hey! I see them fish contests and the avg. bass is onlt a lb or 2. A 2lb bass can fight and I don't know anyone up north catching a boat load of 5+ lb bass each time out.

Oxygen and PH levels should be the key to fishing?
Fishinginiowa! I don't follow the PH in a lake but D.O. is very "RIGHT ON" ! The lake can be 40 Ft. deep but if the summer time D.O rate is only 4ppm at say 15 ft. depth and 0 below the 15 then your wasting your time beyond 15.ft. In your lake that you refer to as 5-6 ft. depths > You may have area's of springs and thats a diffrent ball game and fish will follow to them depths. Bottom line on lakes for me is that all fish seek a comfort zone and they will be there. Find the comfort zone! on lake its D.O. and in rivers and streams I watch the PH level. I find fish in non traditional places as a map maker and fisherman continue to just miss them for that same old grounds . I call it a change up and locating structure in the comfort zone near the traditional locations is the key. I use D.O. meter & underwater cam to prove my point.
