I live in S.E. Pennsylvania and a stones throw away from the Delaware River. Late last year we had an oil tanker get a gapping hole ripped out of the bottom of the tanker. Needless to say the river was covered with oil. Birds, frogs, turtles, and other animals and fish where getting covered with oil and dying. The Delaware River has a large quantity of Stripers and Shad that migrate up the River every year between March and June. The fear is that this oil spill will have a tremendous affect on them. The results could be disasterous.

jagrrich, You did not upset me at all and you should not be embarressed about your post. What you said is a valid point and is part of what I was talking about. We as humans are completely different then fish (bass or any other) and that is why I can not understand why we assume something is in pain or not in pain. That is why I would like to see the scientific proof on the subject. I do a ton of fishing and I am FAIRLY sure a fish doesn't like a hook in its lip but it is not going to kill them (usually). But if we are making the fish sick or putting them in pain by using the electronics then I would not use mine. I catch plenty of bass without my the electronics on.

If they can feel it how in the heck would we know? I hate when people make accusations about things like this without proof. I am not saying that they can or can not feel it, what I am saying is show me some scientific proof that leaves NO SHADOW OF A DOUBT that they can or can not feel it. If it is ever proven that they can feel it and it is doing them harm I will throw mine in the trash. This post is not intended to upset anyone it is just my thought on the topic.

When we first started getting serious about our relationship I told her the two things not to give me a hard time about, fishing and hockey. I retired from my hockey years (slapshot in the eye nearly blinded me) but I will fish till I die. The way I look at it is I am not going to a bar or getting in any kind of trouble so what can she complain about? She doesn't complain about it much except when I skipped her cousins wedding for a tournament! WOW, WAS SHE P****D OFF!

Squid you CRACK me up! Oops, did I say crack! I use Smelly Jelly in the Bass Feast scent and I really think it got me some extra strikes or at the very least made the bass hold on a second or two longer. I believe if it makes you more confident in your lure then you will be more successful. Confidence makes you concentrate better, use your lure better, set the hook better, cast better, and so on. So I say go for it and if it works for you great.

Think about the time of year you are fishing (pre spawn, post spawn, summer, fall, ect.). Then think about what the fish "SHOULD" be doing that time of year. For instince, summer heat usually meens the bass want deeper water near shallow water so they can move up shallow to feed and then get back to the deeper water where they are more comfortable. If you work those areas near the drop offs you "SHOULD" be more successful then just working a shallow bluff without a drop off close by. Once you find a spot where they "should" be then watch your electronics for fish. If you see fish in that area then go to work to find out what they want. I suggest starting out with a crankbait or spinnerbait to look for reaction strikes. After you start getting the reaction strikes then go find what the bigger boys want. I suggest trying jigs, soft plastics, and jerk baits. Notice I said "SHOULD" a few times. Thats because nothing is for sure when you are bass fishing. But doing these things "SHOULD" increase your odds of finding more fish. Good luck!
