  1. What is the difference between wire tie and rattle band?
  2. I just got some last week and I could tell a big difference in it. There was less line memory and I could tell my casts were longer.
  3. San Diego Jam with Flouro and no problems here. If you have an iPhone download the app Knot Wars, it is very helpful.
  4. Just because you can't see structure sticking up out of the water doesn't mean there isn't structure under the water. Find deep water that rises up to a hump and has weeds, stumps, rock piles, or some sort of structure/cover and there are usually bass there.
  5. I use the San Diego Jam knot and have not had any problems out of it with fluorocarbon. If you have a iPhone download the app called Knot Wars, it is really helpful when trying to learn new knots.
  6. In my experience they are usually hard to spot unless you are turning rocks over and looking for them.
  7. It was that way out of the box. I will take it apart today and hopefully find the shim missing, if not oh well it's still going to go back because it isn't right. Thanks for the help everyone.
  8. I did, I stated that I turned the brake all the way up. I am going to get some KVD line conditioner and try it this weekend, but I don't think it's going to be the fix all to my situation. Here in lies the problem....I have to tighten the cast control up so much to get the jig fall that slow that it becomes "hard" to retrieve the lure. I am using hard sparingly here, it isn't like I'm cranking the crap out of it to retrieve the lure but I can definitely tell the spool is in a bind. Is there any way the cast control was messed up from the factory. I have been using baitcaster's for roughly 4 years, and I have not had this problem with any of my other reels.
  9. I did back the cast control off after a couple casts and realized what it was doing. I believe the brake is working because it does start to help the more I turn it up, it just doesn't go up far enough lol. I am fishing in a tournament Saturday night so hopefully I can get some practice with it and won't be terribly frustrated with it.
  10. I was at Wal Mart the other day picking up some plastics before I went out and I got the urge for a new reel. I picked up a Pinnacle Deadbolt Limited with a 7.0:1 Ratio, and spooled it with Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon in 12 lb. test. I paired it with a 7' med-heavy Berkley Lightning rod (for some reason I love these rods). First trip out with it I am using a 1/2 oz. football jig with a Net-Bait papa craw trailer. I turn my brake to 0 and set the tension on the spool so that the bait falls slowly. I then turned my brake to the middle setting and cast...boom terrible backlash. I get all of the backlash out and turn the brake up a little bit, cast again, and another terrible backlash. I get everything cleared out turn the tension knob up a little bit and the brake all the way up and the next cast was a little better but it still backlashes terrible on a medium-hard cast. I am by no means trying to cast the lure off, but I can barely cast if I don't want any backlash. This is not my first baitcaster, and I do not have this problem with any of my other reels. I had the tension knob so tight at one point that it was getting harder to reel. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
  11. I am having terrible problems out of a new Pinnacle Deadbolt Signature reel with 12lb Trilene 100% FC on it. My other Pinnacle reel I love...this one not so much right now. With a 1/2 oz. football jig I have the brake as tight as it will go and the tension as tight as it will go and it will backlash 9 out of 10 times. I cannot for the life of me figure out why it is giving me so many problems.
  12. Thanks for all of the great replies! I figured it was mostly using a muscle that was not in shape was why my wrist was getting tired/sore. Also I was killing time back fishing yesterday and I think the way I was having to hold the rod had something to do with it as well. The rod and reel that I was using was just a Abu Garcia Black Max combo. The reel ratio is 6.4:1 or 6.2:1, is that about right for a top water setup?
  13. I have recently started fishing top water frogs and I noticed that after a handful of casts my left wrist is killing me from jerking the rod. What are some ways that you all keep from wearing your wrist out and making it sore?
  14. I'm dying laughing at this right now!!!
