  1. Thanks. I'm running braid to leader mainly to save money (see how that's working..lol) and reduce visibility in theory. I am considering going just to a main line. What bugs me is I see braid to leader used successfully for swimbaits and i like the concept How often do you respool? What's the durability like? Thanks.
  2. After losing $200 or so worth of swimbaits in 3 or 4 trips, i need to make a change. Four times in the last few trips I've lost nice swimbaits to the water. Each time the failure was at the leader knot (no flouro showing at all) I've been running 65lb PP braid w/ a 6 ft leader of 17lb flouro. (line mismatch?). I've lost roughly two with a blood knot connection, and roughly two with an FG knot. I've used the blood knot for other applications in the past without issue, i'm still new to the FG knot but it seems to cinch down well now after many hours of practice. I'm open to suggestions for knots or for line. For reference, I'm in SE Virginia (8 or 9 lb bass considered a monster). I fish ponds and lowland reservoirs ranging from stained to 3 ft visibility mostly. I'm throwing in appropriate reels (Curado K 300 and 200) and rods (Dobys Fury 808 and St Croix 7'10 swimbait ranger. I'm open to all suggestions. Tight lines!
  3. Thanks for that. I Will be in a Jon boat w trolling motor. From the launch, is going the area to the right what is called the wahrani arm of the lake? are the lmb pretty spread out? I'll be one of three dudes in a 12 ft John with too much tackle and no common sense
  4. Hello Va bassers- I'm planning a fishing trip this weekend on diascund reservoir. Anybody who has experienced fishing either Diascund reservoir or chickahominy, I would love to hear from youguys. going to be fishing on diascund so any specific help with that lake would be appreciated or if you guys have any resources or other sites with information on diascund reservoir. Also I just wanted to see what lures were catching fish around this area this time of year thanks in advance for the help.
  5. I like the above suggestions. Also pick up some flukes while you're on soft plastics and some swim jigs with maybe some netbait or rage tail craw trailers. It's a good idea to have a sharp pocketknife, scissors and some needle nose pliers. Some light first aid (aspirin, bandaids, neosporin, alcohol pads). Bug spray, sunscreen, and polarized sunglasses.
  6. Next time I'm gonna throw some jerkbaits, my only concern is there are a ton of pickerel and they slaughter those jerks..lol.
  7. Tough fishing but the one lmb I caught was 3.5 lb. Caught on a bluegill kvd swim jig w rage craw trailer jj dipped. No luck on cranks, spinner, or swimbait.
  8. 160 acre reservoir 55-60F water temp 55f air temp Slightly stained Wind 5-10 mph Partly sunny Post cold front 10 ft. At deepest part I'm thinking swimbait, crankbaits, jigs, flukes. What say you all?
  9. Cool deal. I want to dip a few and gave them at hand but I couldn't imagine trying to apply that stuff out on a Jon.
  10. How far in advance can I apply jj to a bait and it not lose effectiveness? Fishing tomorrow eve and want to apply to some baits and keep in ziploc tonight.
  11. I feel you guys. Not ice on the water here but it's been cold and windy as heck all winter long.
  12. Haha. I rinsed it off and had some random dudes take some better pics but the file size was to large. I could've hit 4lb. If I had some hydrilla to cover it in
  13. Virginia...snowy and in 30s until the last couple of days.
  14. Ran across the street and caught this guy. Taking advantage of the nice weather to do the shore fishing for a couple minutes. Didn't bring my tackle bag. It fell between three and 3.5 pounds any guesses Caught it on a swim jig w a clawless rage craw lol..
  15. I'm quite sure he has an excellent product. I have a gift card for TW though and am not in to paying multiple shipping charges this time.
  16. What do you guys think is the best quality swim jig on tackle warehouse at the moment. Placing an order and northstar is no longer on there.
  17. I can't stand the shows where the angler doesn't talk about the technique they are using and why they are using it or other such considerations. Then there is 5 minutes of fishing and 5 minutes of the same d**n commercials advertising the products they've already been selling half of the show. That's a 50/50 split of commercials vs. programming....and then half of the programming is an advertisement too.
  18. For a change of pace, i really like the damiki hydra! Been having good success on them and i feel like it gives the bass a different look.
  19. I am very fond of black and black and blue jigs with matching dark trailers. I fish alot of stained water, and a good bit at night. I like the contrast it provides and its partially a confidence thing. I may throw black in a situation where another color is better suited simply because black gives me confidence.
  20. I think the lipless crank a la red eyed Shad by strike king or similar is what i use. I'll throw it when i don't have good angles or buddy is tying on a lure and boat isn't in optimal position. Caught a nice perch last week just that way!
  21. I would look at the bps carbonlite, abu vendetta or veritas, Fenwick, all in the 80-100 range
  22. Gonna have to pick one of those up to go with the rest.
  23. I did alot of research before buying my pro qualifier and for $80 on sale, i don't believe a better reel can be had. Take it for what its worth, but i feel like pairing it with an ugly stick and braided line is like mixing a nice single malt scotch with coke and drinking it out of a sippy cup. Not to diminish the durability of the ugly stick....or the sippy cup. As far as tackle, you can get alot of mileage from spinnerbaits, swim jigs, chatterbaits, and buzzbaits as well as soft plastics. Casted to cover and structure, utilizing the same type of straightforward retrieve. Simplicity, single hooks, and good hookup rates will allow you to focus on learning your baitcaster. White, chartreuse, black and blue, and pumpkin or craw colors.
