  1. Wow, you know your junk. Thanks for that answer. That is really interesting.
  2. Hooligan, that's pretty much exactly why I'm looking for one at 7.1. I'd like to get the bait out of dead water quickly for more presentations.
  3. Yeah why the heck do none of the shimano reels have a bent handle yet?
  4. I know right? Abu seems to beating everyone to the punch with their 8.1 reels. By the way, just off topic, have you seen the new MGXtreme coming out? 4.9 Ounces and $500 bones. Crazy. Check out tackle warehouse to see it.
  5. Fish it like a spinnerbait where and when you would normally fish a spinnerbait. If you can find an attachable spinnerbait blade like a willow or Colorado, it will be even more effective.
  6. Thanks gambler, maybe one day someone will have one I can try out.
  7. In all seriousness, what do you feel makes shimano products so good? I've never tried anything except my Sahara spinning reel. Im interested to know about the baitcasters in particular. Thanks.
  8. Okay, so I feel like a complete idiot but I'm willing to take the embarrassment to make sure I put proper information out there and not give micro guide rods a bad name. I recently started a post about micro guide rods and my findings. I reported that I was getting less casting distance with the micro guide rod no matter the line type or reel. Well for whatever reason I happened to think what my cent brake setting were and noticed that I had the spring loaded cent brakes engaged on the pq and the pitch ones on the revo s. The revo brakes were essentially engaged throughout the whole cast while the pq was not I apologize for that. So after I corrected that and made both reels the same, the casting distance was essentially the same, but very smooth from the micro guides. The good thing that came out of the original post was a nice discussion and a cool video post. Sorry guys, *awaiting tomatoes*
  9. This is true. The feel of the bps carbonlite I bought last year was totally different on the bps carbonlite rod than the veritas. I went with the veritas because of where the reel sat on the reel seat.
  10. You can turn off all the brakes by pushing them towards the center of the spool until you hear a click. I think that's what you're asking right?
  11. So three of the brakes are spring loaded and 3 are not. The three that are spring loaded will only engage when you whip a bait out there hard because the spool is spinning fast enough at that time to extend the springs and drag against the ring on the inside. The other three that are not spring loaded will extend with a lot less spool speed for assistance on shorter casts. As far as how to set it up, I would either use the 3 of one or the other, not both. Practice short and long casts with both ways and see how you like it. Good luck.
  12. If you go online, Walmart has even more options including an excellent deal on the veritas microguide rod for 70$. I have that rod and it's awesome. Super light and well balanced. I have it paired with the gen 3 revo s. Keep in mind that any Abu Garcia rod or reel comes with a no questions asked 3 year warranty. Three years of peace of mind is nice.
  13. It's funny, I am right handed but to me it feels more natural to hold the rod with my strong arm and reel with the left. It feels akward the other way around.
  14. I'm not sure how to start a simple petition but maybe we can get one going and send it. It can be a generic left hand reel request too that way we can send the same petition to any reel manufacturer we want.
  15. So I sent an email to Abu Garcia a few days ago about my frustration about them not manufacturing left hand retrieves in all their revo reels. I thought I'd share their answer with you guys. Here it is. Hi Joel, Thank-you for your email. We have to base our left handed reels off of forecasted demand. While we would like to make all of our reels available in both left and right hand retrieve, the cost of tooling and retail placement opportunities outweighs our ability to do so. However, when we receive input from enough of our customers and there demand, we often go back and tool a left handed version in a series at a slightly later date. The MGX - which will be available in a left handed retrieve this spring. We always like to hear from consumers and try to facilitate their needs. We will pass this information on to the brand manager. Best Regards, TM Abu Garcia Customer Service Okay, Joel here again. If you guys want left hand retrieves, let them know!
  16. Man, that actually really bothers me about the left hand retrieve. I just wrote an email to Abu Garcia. I wasn't rude or anything but I basically told them how they are missing out on a sale and how they would be opening up their products to an even larger fan base if they simply offered all speeds in all models on both retrieves. I know they are probably trying to be savvy by limiting features in one reel to make you spring for the next one up but really? Is it that serious? They should stop pud whackin and just make it right you know.
  17. Dang! I just got ham boned. I looked up the STX and it only comes in right hand retrieve for the 8.1. Why do they do that? I don't see that it should be any more complicated to make a left hand as it would be a right. STX 8.1 owners, is that faster speed even more apparent as a 7.1 is to a 6.1?
  18. Thanks, but I'm looking to get the gen 3. Not only that but I'm returning my carbonlite reel to bass pro and applying the money towards the sx.
  19. LOVE the responses. So I've fallen and hit the groud but waiting for the spring classic sale to start running. Gen 3 revo sx 7.1 here we come. Thanks a bunch guys! Ps. I would buy another revo s but they don't come in 7.1
  20. No, not crankbait. I mean just how hard to turn the reel crank.
  21. Okay, so far I'm about to fall off onto the high speed side. Another question I have is, do you feel like the faster the reel the harder it is to crank? Excellent responses so far.
  22. I want to make a straight jig pitching rod. I already have the rod but I'm still on the fence about a 7:1 gear ratio. For those of you that have the experience between a 6.1 vs a 7.1 for jigs only, could you give me your opinion and push me off the fence one way or the other? Thanks!
  23. Yep, great reel. Smooth retrieve and drag. Hardly any line tangles around the bail either. Priced right as well.
  24. A lot of people actually do get the two confused. My friend at work who's been fishing for over 30 years didn't know the difference until I showed him a video on youtube. Anyhow, since you're not pitching the bait too far, using a baitcaster that utilizes cent vs mag brakes doesn't matter so much. I would look however for a reel with a strong drag system since you're most likely fishing in areas with a lot of cover and will be setting the hook pretty hard.
  25. Yeah, that video was cool. Now my question is, which rods use this concept or are there any yet?
