  1. I am also open to suggestions for some DIY projects, particularly a shallow water anchor as well as some type of cart to haul it to the water when I am on my own... maybe even some kind of stringer setup. Pictures would be greatly appreciated! Congratulations! Kayak fishing is so much fun. In addition to the ideas previously posted, the one thing I CANNOT leave without is a drift sock. It has made the most difference in my fishing trips. Without the sock it gets so frustrating trying to make multiple casts to a spot before the wind just pushes you along. Another easy project is a milk crate with rod holders made from pvc pipe. Click on my profile and I have some pictures of my kayak with the crate. Enjoy your new kayak!
  2. That's weird. Why would the barometric pressure make bubbles or not? Do you have a link to hat video?
  3. Ever since I learned how to fish and catch fish with a jig, a black and blue with zoom super chunk or Denny Brauer chunk is my favorite. Although, even though I don't catch as many, I love love love fishing my live target frog!
  4. You know what? The veritas is a very popular rod and a lot of people have them so you're bound to see more complaints simply because there are more customers. I'm sure you'll find lemons with any manufacturer. I have two in the 7' MH micro guide version. I had one snap about 7" from the tip and I was simply fishing a spinnerbait and ripped it through the weeds. I've also swung a nearly 4lber into the boat after ripping his face off on the hook set. Stout rod! Basically it's a great rod the way it was designed. The best part though is abu's 3 year warranty. If the rod has any problems, just send it in and they'll send you a new one back. Save your worries.
  5. Get her an awesome rod and reel and tell her it's one of the best you can get and then she'll be really happy to use it. And like the other guy said, if she doesn't use it then you have it all to yourself!
  6. Yeah mine is so smooth that when I'm reeling it in it feels like the drag is set to the weakest it can be and being hung up on something while I turn the crank. I've twice had to look down to see if the reel was taking in line.
  7. Glad someone asked this question, been wondering this myself. I'm thinking along the lines of what Paul Roberts just posted. I've caught crappie using 10lb braid on a spinning rod so it obviously didn't spook them. Also I think around most vegetation the braid could be easily blended with its surroundings. I've never used a leader and always caught fish with all types of bait on braid.
  8. Thanks for the replys guys. I sure do love this forum.
  9. I thought someone may catch on to that! Yeah I kept my stuff indoors this season, actually every season. I just got a rod rack for the wall but was always afraid the cold temps may not be good for my investments.
  10. Sounds great, I'm gonna do it then. I'm putting up a rod rack on the wall in the garage. I was afraid that the condensation or just extreme cold might take a toll on the internals of the reel or rod even.
  11. Hey all, I'm wondering if its good or bad for my rods and reels being stored in the garage through winter with it getting really cold in there. Thanks
  12. If I pay $400 for a driver it better make me better! Lol
  13. I think the biggest factor is presentation. Equipment can make or break presentation. And equipment also becomes important when you're trying to get that fish in your hands. That being said, if you can present said bait with a cheaper setup as effective as an expensive one then you've answered your question.
  14. Same here, right handed and left retrieve. Typical reasons like stronger right handed and no switching hands. But even more so, just doing the subtle things like slow dragging and short quick twitching is much more easily achieved with my right (dominant) hand. Make sure you think about things like that and not just retrieval speed which will be as fast as you can muster with practice with your left hand. This is just my opinion but I think somebody long ago screwed it up when they made bait casters right handed and got people to become comfortable with that ( don't flame me people). But think about it. Imagine I'd the first bait casters were left handed instead if right. I bet there would be a lot less topics about this issue. Anyway, do whatever you're comfortabe with. In the end that's all that matters and not what the majority does.
  15. Yes, gen 3. Sorry, should of mentioned that.
  16. I don't have the lews but the new sx can launch baits mad far. Apparently Abu redid their sx mag brakes but anyway I'm able to cast with no probs at all. Nice light smooth reel.
  17. You're definitely passing up GOOD fish by passing on the milfoil. That being said I run no peg but either way you can't go wrong. Pitch a jig down in that milfoil and see what happens
  18. Excuse my ignorance but what store are we talking about?
  19. What's the difference between gen 1 and 2 anyway?
  20. The model number VTC66-5 on amazon refers to the gen 1 and appears to be the medium action. Either way its a great deal.
  21. I take them out and put them in their own compartments in a tackle tray box. But I don't mix colors because yes they bleed.
  22. You're right, most jigs will sit on the defensive angle. The problem starts after the initial fall when you start to slowly drag it. That's when the jig will fall over and won't stand back up unless you pop it and have it fall back in the defensive posture. The floating trailers alleviate this problem when dragging the jig. They pull the jig back up to the defense every time, it's pretty cool actually. Thanks for the kinami bait ref, gonna check those out!
  23. These look exactly like the DB chunks. Must be the same manufacturer without the DB name.
