Micro Guide Rods, My Personal Findings
Cool, thanks for the video link. I will check that out for sure. What I don't get is that it seems as if I have given the impression that I don't like the micro guides. I actually still like them more than regular guides and that is simply because of the weight centering alone. Sorry if I gave the wrong impression to anyone with my initial post.

Micro Guide Rods, My Personal Findings
Geeze, sorry for the typos. I'm at work typing from my phone. Fixing my typos from home now.

Micro Guide Rods, My Personal Findings
I used two rods. One micro and one without. Besides, how long SHOULD it take? If something seems different in the instance I try it or 2 months later, what's the difference? Anyway, I did say that these were MY findings and results can and probably do vary but what I can say is that between the two rod types I have I can see differences that made me take notice.

Micro Guide Rods, My Personal Findings
As far as line contact not an issue, if that is the case then the fact that the sound was louder meant the difference in guide insert material is making it louder. Most guide inserts nowadays, from what I've read, are similar enough in their performance between different rods. That being said I personally still feel that there is more line contact on the micro guides because of the increase in sound with the braid. I could be wrong.

Micro Guide Rods, My Personal Findings
Since we had a record setting temperature on Sunday in update NY, I decided to practice in the back yard and dream of it being spring. As I switched between my veritas micro guide rod and my pro qualifier rod I started to take notice of a few things. Here's my setup. Gen 3 revo s 6:4:1, 7'mh veritas micro guide spooled with 17lb bps flourocarbon. Second rod is a bps pro qualifier standard guide rod and reel 6:4:1, 7'mh spoiled with 40lb power pro braid. Using a 1/2oz practice plug pitching approximately 30 feet away, I would consistently get 6-8 feet further distance with the pq setup using approximately the same force to throw. I then swapped the reels on each rod and noticed the same further distance with the flourocarbon revo s on the pq rod. I also noticed a significant increase in noise during the cast and retrieve with the braided pq reel on the veritas. So with the claims that you get further distance with microguide rods because of decreased line slap, I call fooey. It was my finding that you in fact get the opposite which is decreased distance because of more line contact with the guides. I also found no increase in sensitivity as I slowly dragged the plug across the grass. They both felt pretty much equal. Besides, when all the tension of the line is resting on the first guide at the tip of the rod, of course you shouldn't feel any increase of sensitivity because of the size of the subsequent guides. HOWEVER! Where I can for certain say is that the benefit of micro guide rods lay is in the weight balance. Not necessarily the total weight of the rod but in the balance of weight near the reel. I held both rods and found the center of gravity closer to the reel on the veritas with both reels. In practice I found it more comfortable over time pitching with the veritas because of the weight distribution. So these are MY findings and I'm sure results can vary but I thought I would at least share that with you all. Bring on spring!

Abu Garcia 3Rd Gen Revo S
It's very quiet on the cast compared to my other reels. It's very smooth when retrieving. It doesn't backlash easily at all. Looks are awesome, my favorite. Size and weight are excellent. Cost for all those combined....priceless. For all other reels, there's MasterCard.

Scents And Attractants.
My buddy always uses smelly jelly for jig fishing. He always does well. He has also been fishing for over 30 years.

Might Be A Stupid Question But...
I really will only weigh them if I think it's close to my pb. I like the shopping bag idea. Great posts so far.

Missile Baits D Bombs And Other Beaver Style Baits
Trokar 5/0 for me. Love it.

Might Be A Stupid Question But...
See, nobody ever told me that but I kinda figured that was the right place to put it. Mainly because the hook is blatently dull. My buddy pops his through the thin layer of skin under their lower jaw. That seemed odd to me.

Where is the proper place to put the hook on a fish using a scale? I've read and seen people say and do different things. Thoughts?

Missile Baits D Bombs And Other Beaver Style Baits
I've used the bps brand beaver baits and out of the package they are stiff and feel as if no fish would ever bite it. However, the first outing where I really gave them a chance I was crushing the bass. Go figure.

Carbonlite Reel Fix?
I have the 6:3:1 and it's had the problem the whole time. I would try out another one to see if the issue has been resolved but they don't make a 7:1:1 in a left hand retrieve so I'm pretty much set on the SX. Thanks to 21farms by the way for the idea of returning it. As silly as it sounds, I never thought of that as an option. I made this post to find a fix and instead found a better option!

Carbonlite Reel Fix?
DVT, I tried that. No dice. I even tried polishing what seemed like an area inside the spool housing that seemed to be touching on every revolution. Still no dice. LMG, dang it! I was just talking myself into sticking with the carbonlite. As you can see I give into peer pressure easily. We'll see. I'm gonna head down to bps this week so I have to figure it out soon.

Carbonlite Reel Fix?
Well I intend on using the sx as a jig rod so I won't be casting far with it at all. 7:1:1 theory being I can get more casts in a day by getting that jig in and out of where I'm fishing it quickly. I called basspro by the way. No problem returning it being under a year! Good news! Now the question is another carbonlite or gen 3 sx? I reel left handed otherwise I would just get the carbonlite in a 7:1:1.
-
Carbonlite Reel Fix?
Actually I'm looking to get a gen 3 sx. I would get another gen 3 s but I want a 7:1:1 gear ratio. I hear a lot about the shimanos but as superficial as it sounds, I just don't like the looks of them. Believe me I'd like to try one to see what all the talk is about but man, that new revo s I got is so awesome, especially for the price.

Carbonlite Reel Fix?
You think they will exchange it for that? If so that would be great. I'm still in my one year period, got it at the spring classic sale.

Carbonlite Reel Fix?
So I have one of the "grindy" ones and I was wondering if any of you have found a creative way to remedy this? So far I've dissasemed my PQ reel and tried swapping out some of the internals but not everything quite matches up. However I swapped out the small pinion gear between the two and my PQ reel is even smoother now but this makes my carbonlite is even noisier. I kinda like the smoothness of my PQ now but if someone has a way to smooth out the carbonlite I'll put the pinion gear back.

Why Is It That.....
That's good advice nitro. Yeah I definitely get way excited, so much so that I completely forgot my paddle for my kayak back at the house once. Can't get far without that!

Why Is It That.....
Reply to nitrofreak. Yeah I've noticed that those times when my concentration is razor sharp that you get mentally fatigued after awhile. You're right. It is difficult to maintain focus and willfully slow down.

Why Is It That.....
That's funny, that reminds me of when my wife called me when I was on my kayak and I set the hook right then. I was basically holding the phone with one hand, holding the rod with the other and trying to reel the fish with my leg while holding a conversation. Totally awkward!

Why Is It That.....
Jbsoonerfan, that's just an awesome story!

Why Is It That.....
Right, so I've been trying to somehow balance not watching the pot (bait) yet be ready for the cues that the fish has taken the bait. It's a tough balance I'll tell you. Meanwhile my buddy is at the front of the boat slammin slobs which makes it even harder to figure out cause now you KNOW there are fish there.

Why Is It That.....
You know what, that makes a lot of sense. Note taken! Thank you

Why Is It That.....
Why is it that so often when I'm concentrating real hard, paying complete attention to everything I'm doing while fishing that the bites come so infrequently, BUT, when I start to casually drift off in my thoughts and start day dreaming WHAMMO! There's the strike! Anyone else experience this? It happens more often than not to me. And then on the contrary, when I try to reproduce the day dreaming fishing action nothing happens of course. Oh well, I still catch fish even when I concentrate but I just noticed this happens a lot. What are your thoughts?
