  1. i've caught lots of bass this year with two different rods; one cheap 6' shakespeare and the other is my new Pfleuger President 6'6"; niether has give me a problem with frogging
  2. i fish year round; as long as i can get to "some" water i'm going to fish it
  3. i use different sized split shots alot of times just depending on the weight of the actual plastic and the weight and size of the hook your using with it
  4. the all mighty spinnerbait; exactly what i caught my pb on as well; what color were you using ?
  5. lots of people try smaller lures and baits in colder water; grubs on jigheads, that type of thing; i have luck here in the cold on plastic worms SLOW on the bottom; weedless rigging will help here
  6. basically it depends on the individual's personal standards; i caught an 8lber earlier in the year and it made my day; now nothing less that that would make me very happy; for instance my girlfriend caught a 3lb bass yesterday and it's her biggest ever; made her extremely happy; personal preference is my answer
  7. the Gulp! baits won't harden if you put them back into the package after you're finished using them; i've had a few packs in one of my tackle boxes for months and opened it up and it's just like new; good luck
  8. i'm with sam on this; float and nightcrawler will catch some fish for them; this way it holds their interest while learning; they will learn to and get the hang of casting and getting used to the rod and reel and get used to casting more accurately; after a while or a trip or two or when you feel like they are ready go to plastics and cranks maybe topwater; this is exactly what i did for my gf and it worked wonders; within like 4 trips she is using several different lures and catching fish steadily; good luck
  9. i agree; 1.5 lbs give or take a few ounces; nice fish man
  10. Waded into the river after work yesterday evening in search of smallies. Caught 9 smallies, 2 redbreasts sunfish, 1 largemouth bass, 1 redeye bass and a creek chub. Caught 7 of the smallies on charlie brewers sliders 2" grubs with cottonmouth jigheads, the other two i caught on an all gold panther martin inline spinner, the largemouth and the redeye came on one of the previously mentioned grubs as well. Thanks for reading and good fishing to all of you.
  11. 2" charlie brewers slider grubs in baby bass color on a cottonmouth jighead work great for me; gold panther martin spinners too
  12. 6lbs give or take a few ounces
  13. concentrate on that initial set and keeping the line taught afterwards; i also try to keep my rod to the side and the line tight so the fish won't jump and try to throw the hook near as much; also, in my opinion the longer casts that cover more water are great but at the same time i think your initial hookset could be a little weaker just due to the amount of line between you and the fish; make sure to reel the line TIGHT before setting the hook on long distance hooksets; good luck
  14. i do tons of shore fishing as well as lots of boat fishing; simply put: backpack for all gear; extra everything in case something breaks, gets lost etc., be quiet, look for structure and active fish in the water; be careful; bring water; dont be afraid to cast into "iffy" places so buy cheaper priced lures because you'll lose some for sure but when you land that hawg that was under that log or whatever you'll forget all about the lures that you've lost; work an area thouroughly before moving on; lots of bass can watch your bait go right by several times before it will commit; good luck
  15. seems like to me you probably shoulda seen if he had permission in the first place; secondly even if he didnt then you still cant physically do anything to him about it without it bein assault, just because something is private and you have permission or because you don't like someone keeping fish that you wouldn't keep doesn't make you a game warden or an officer of the law; now if he's there illegally without permission then call the wildlife folks or police; they HAVE to respond to the call, it's their job to. Funny how this guys asks about catch and release and eating fish and it turns into something like this.
  16. bass are great tablefare if prepared properly; i've kept quite a few along with cats; crappie; gills; shellcrackers or whatever else; if it's legal then theres nothing wrong with keeping whatever makes you happy; i dont condone wasting fish though; also, it sometimes helps alot to remove fish of certain species; good fishing to you
  17. never had to beg; me and my brother were always outdoors with our friends and our dad; thats they way i will bring my kids up if i ever have any; hahah
  18. when bass fishing and you feel that tug or jerk on your lure or bait then jerk asap; if not alot of time you could lose the fish after he spits it out or sometimes he'll swallow it occassionally; when that line is tight enough for you to feel the fish then set the hook and he should be hooked anyway; if you jerk the rod when there is much slack in the line then your not going to get a good hookset and may lose the fish; good luck

white works fine but ive had the best luck on a silver colorado blade with a black skirt with red flakes in it; my personal best bass came on this bait; good luck
  20. yes, i agree with you, if im fishing and my phone rings and i answer it or anything like that then right then i'll get a hit; almost every time
  21. being my first ice adventure i just wanna catch "something" and be at least somewhat successful, i've chosen an ice fishing line and have those stretchable traction things for the bottoms of my boots; got the clothing down pat; need a rod and jigs or lures or baits now; but as far as species i'm not picky at all at this point; and i'm not planning on going out on the ice unless i see other folks out there too; thanks
  22. Just got back from Ohio Tuesday and done some fishing there. I'm going back in January most likely to do some ice fishing but don't know the first thing about it. I know most of us are probably clueless about this topic but i was hoping maybe some of you have ventured into the ice fishing world at some point in your lives. I know i need to get a rod designed for ice fishing (shorter) but thats about the extent of my knowledge. I need help on bait and or jigs, what types of line to use so the sharp ice won't damage it and also about drilling a hole through the ice to fish out of. Any and all help will be appreciated here. Thanks alot and good fishing to all of you
  23. yeah; like previously stated; try something smaller and more universal and you'll probably get a fish; also, i'd bet that whatever was grabbing your senko and not committing was just a smaller fish that couldnt just inhale the bait; also, i doubt it was a catfish simple because from my experience catfish dont play around much; if they want it they will take it and run; good luck; keep us posted
  24. in-lines are great; i've caught bass in places using these things when nothing else in my bag would even get a hit; the larger ones for bass i think are more functional than the smaller ones; lots of times the smaller ones seem to "not spin" correctly
