Biggest Surprise/disappointment
surprise: strike king shim e stick or yamamoto fat ika. watermelon or green pumpkin. best producing plastics for me thus far. disappointment: buzzbaits. they elude me, need to put in some more time to believe

Few Questions About Braid.
use a double uni knot to tie either mono or fluoro to braid for a leader. it really depends on the type of water you are fishing. if it is stained you may be able to get away with braid, but with finesse a leader will put you miles ahead. this way you can use whatever knot you prefer. i love straight braid for topwater and hollow body frogs through slop, but i use 65 lb test. should not tear up your rod guides. i have never heard of that though so dont quote me. different guides feel smoother than others but i have never had any problems. tight lines

Caught My First Crankbait Fish Today
congrats tuckahoe...just got my first square bill on the rick clunn and also my first lipless as well on a ratltrap over the weekend. gotta love positive feedback. hooked into one and then had a lot of confidence. ended up catching 5 more over the course of the day. love them crankbaits this was the last and final fish of the day. was adjusting our direction in the kayak by throwing out to the left and i think i found a brush pile or something because she nailed it. clunn.5 all day.

Pond Tackle Bag
one thing that has helped me a lot would be to make a day box of all hard baits/jigs/spinnerbaits/terminal tackle and to also have a small container for your plastics you could see yourself throwing that day. i like to use the waterproof blue plano because it is the perfect size for everything. bassego on here makes fun of me because of it but i use an old five star pencil case from back when and it expands open (easily holds about 12 bags of plastics, wacky o tool, and smelly jelly) especially on the kayak where space is everything. hope that helps. it will definitely allow you to game plan for the day at hand instead of being overwhelmed on the water. i have about three backpacks i switch off between boat/shore/ and kayak.

Horny Toads Spinning
tried to my hand at horny toads last night for the first time on straight braid. seemed pretty versatile, just need to put it in front of the right fish. no love last night but had much confidence. have heard nothing but good things. what produces the most strikes? walking on the surface or letting it fall then popping back up? definitely was varying my retrieve somewhat in the cover but in open water, it's almost as if it needs to be worked very quickly.

Can't Fish So Far This Season
seconded. i couldn't even imagine. hang in there. there is nothing worse than lower back pain, especially if it is keeping you off the water. my thoughts go out to you. tight lines.

Potential World Record Tuna
that is a monster fish. there have been some anglers around these parts that have gotten 300+ lb tuna, but nothing of that proportion. such a behemoth

I Keep Breaking 65Lb Braid. Why?
i have lost a frog before due to using an inferior clinch knot and a bad cast from the shore into some thick sticks. tried to get it out before the sun was up and snapped it right off. will only use palomar now lol. problem is you definitely use more line with palomar but feel its worth it to keep my frog on.

San Diego Lakes
it took me about a solid 7 months before i was rewarded to be honest besides my first experience landing a nice one on a bed during the spring. i have gotten them on topwater, flipping jigs, senkos, ikas, spoons, and some different plastics on drop shots. i have gotten tons of follows on a 6" hudd swimbait, but have not had a fish hit it yet. it is not a crank/jerk/spinnerbait type of lake but i am sure you can get a fish to commit. the water is so clear, make sure to use light line or fluoro. the fish are very finicky at certain times of the year. it is not an easy lake and i have been the victim of the good ol skunk tons of times. just keep putting in your time and the fish will come. i am a huge fan of whisker bay and trout cove. stick to the tulles and fish will be right there. we took my buddy out there once who doesn't fish at all and caught a nice 4 lber on a 4 inch wacky roboworm in like 2 casts. it was falling so slow and the fish clobbered it. took so much line it was hilarious seeing him fight it. hook, line. sunk! check this article out too. http://www.gameandfishmag.com/2010/09/29/fishing_bass-fishing_ca_aa010704a/
