  1. doesn't surprise me with some of the drivers i see here in the metro richmond area....I can't believe someone who was ejected from their car after a wreck and then hit and dragged 4 miles is still alive albeit with serious injuries. As they say, you can't fix stupid.
  2. Palomar for me for pretty much everything except when fly fishing and using smaller eyed flies, then i use the improved clinch. For braid to leader connections, which i rarely use, i have been using the seaguar knot and not had one slip or break yet and it is super easy to tie or I go with a nail knot. All those years of fly fishing has made me pretty proficient at tying them without any tools and the strength is as good as anything out there.
  3. When i am fishing by myself i always take the iPod shuffle and keep it at a volume that i can hear the music and still hear stuff going on around me. If i am fishing with friends then the music stays home.
  4. Just curious but which GLoomis rods are you comparing the avids to?
  5. I have used old rusted lid jars myself with no issues. I would say as long as the product is still soft you should be good to go.
  6. Yeah they basically made you use their gold star service which is basically for $75 no matter what the damage they will replace it. Also technically not all rods above the premier are made in the USA as the Mojo series is made in mexico as are the Rage series. And i am a big St Croix fan too....but Kistler is starting to get my attention as well.
  7. Just validated my shipment is being sent today...
  8. Yeah i ordered 8 i think, can't seem to find the email confirming my order, and they are all swim jigs that i hope i can use this weekend as well.
  9. Who would have thought that two of the worst power hitters on the anemic phillies lineup would take chapman, the fireballing never blow a save chapman, deep not once but twice and back to back.....this is what makes me glad i shave my head because i would be pulling my hair out. On a side note, i really like this Galvis kid and i have been saying sicne the first time i saw him play a few years ago in minor league ball that the Phillies should have him as their everyday third or 2nd baseman (would say SS too but J-roll is signed for two more years) as he is stellar in the field and has a rocket for an arm.
  10. Anyone know where they are in their production runs? I know they state on their website it is anywhere from 15-18 business days and i ordered on 4/25 so i am just curious how close i am to getting the jigs i ordered. I didn't see anything on their Facebook page but that doesn't mean it isn't there as i just skimmed it pretty quickly. Thanks
  11. I own a few spinning and one casting micro guide set up and i haven't seen a ton of difference other than the weight savings. I seem to be able to cast the same distance and have the same accuracy as i do with the regular guides. To me it wasn't a factor when i bought the rods as i was looking fro a more sensitive blank and the rod happened to come with them so that is what i am using. If i fished a lot of cold weather where my guides were freezing i might think again but there are plenty of products out there that i have used on my fly rods to prevent ice up so really it shouldn't be a problem.
  12. lets just say hanging it over the edge of a kayak isn't the easiest thing when breakfast fights back......on more than one occasion i was extremely happy that my kayak had scupper holes
  13. 5/0 on the 4" fluke? That is huge for that bait and even on the super fluke i think it is pushing it...
  14. My plan is this will be my son's jeep in 13 years after we spend time rebuilding it together in about 10 years or so. This is my third jeep and 2nd wrangler. I still miss my 1971 wagoneer that i bought for next to nothing with 40k miles on it but unfortunately i didn't have the mechanical experience i do now and sold it when i had some problems rather than fixing it.....
  15. I don't think it is the 1/0 hook that is your problem but a 2/0 would be better, especially since you are fishing the 4" version. I fish flukes quite a bit and some days they just don't eat them like they do other days. I would also say the rod is to light to get a good hookset when you combine that with the added stretch of mono. Try braid and see if that helps and if you don't have much vegetation nose hook like was suggested earlier as that will give better action and hooking power.
  16. If you are going after 40-50 lbers i hope your reel has good drag and make sure your backing to fly line knot is solid and you have at least 100 yards of backing on there because you will need it. I caught one that i estimate to be 15-20 lbs on my 4wt and he took me well into my backing to the point where i was starting to see the spool. I was also shore bound which made it even more difficult to chase him around so i pretty much had to let him do his thing.
  17. yup and one of the most fun fish to catch on a fly rod in my opinion.
  18. I saw souse in the grocery store once and i swear it oinked at me....at least scrapple doesn't look like all the parts used to make it held together by jello.
  19. Nice boat!! I am also digging the 4 door tacoma too.
  20. Didn't scrapple originate in the north as in PA? I grew up in philly and i don't like the stuff myself but my dad does for sure.
  21. All in due time..... What is more crazy is that to get the same size tire that comes stock on my new jeep, 32", i had to put almost 4" of lift on my old YJ.
  22. It isn't a $45 dollar rod to make it is probably 1/2 of wholesale cost otherwise how would they make money?? Besides, a rod is worth what people are willing to pay and the veritas is a nice rod for the price. Anyways I would use whatever line as they all seem to work. I personally run 8lb diameter power pro super slick tied to a snap to facilitate easier bait changes.
  23. Well my Subaru basically blew the motor a week ago while I was 300 miles away visiting my parents up in philly. Long story short, I took this as a sign to get back to a wrangler as I sold my old 95yj right before my son was born nearly 3 years ago. Anyways here she is....2012 jeep wrangler unlimited Sahara. Decided to just go with a roof rack for hauling the kayaks around which is on order.
  24. Well I picked up the jeep this evening and after much debating I decided to go with a rack for now and possibly get a trailer later on down the road. Rack is on order and hopefully here before next weekend as this non fishing stuff is killing me.....
