Bought My First Fly Rod And Reel Combo
poppers can be twitched, popped, drug across the surface or just dead sticked. The key to me is the pause as the action draws the attention and the pause entices them to hit. Basically there is no worn gway to do it just figure out what the fish are looking for that day.

Recommendations For Rain Gear
Marmot Precip jacket and pants are in your range and perform well. Personally i get cheap rain pants because they seem to get beat up no matter what price point your are in and the breathability factor isn't as important.

New Shimano Lineup?
I haven't thrown the curados but i do own both the E & G citicas and i have no complaints with either of them and any performance differences isn't noticeable by me at least. Also is it even fair to compare the E curado to the G as the price points are completely different? If i remember correctly weren't the Gs around 200 and the Es in the 150 range?

Bought My First Fly Rod And Reel Combo
What weight rod do you have? I am guessing it is probably 5/6.....and yes, catching any type of panfish on a fly rod is super fun. it is actually one of the things i like to do when taking someone out for the first time. Throw little poppers and they smack the crap out of them and even if you don't catch them the action alone is addictive. Now if i have achoice i take them to chase brookies in the mountains as that is about as fun as it gets....well other than sight fishing for carp, picking apart a lilly pad field with a popper for largemouth, tossing big streamers for brown trout......

you are starting your back cast to soon and the rod is not loading properly on the back cast which means not enough energy is being transfered to the front cast.....very common mistake. When doing your back cast, turn your head and look behind you and watch the line uncurl and wait to feel the rod load before starting the forward cast. Also keep in mind the rod you picked up probably isn't the most sensitive and easy to cast but you can still learn and when you decide to upgrade, noticed i said when too and not if, you will see a huge difference.

Bought My First Fly Rod And Reel Combo
The fly is irrelvant really when learning to cast as teh fly line is waht does the casting. Things do change when you start throwing heavier or more wind resistant flies but the piece of string on the end of the leader allows you to see your cast. Also in fly fishing it is not about distance, well rarely, it is more about accuracy, getting the fly and line to lay down softly and when startign the next cast pulling the fly up quietly. When things are really going well with your casting you will rarely hear anything while casting other than the fly line moving through the guides. Oh and keep you elbow into your side until you get your casting stroke down pat.

They key to casting a fly rod is slow purposeful movements and allowing the rod to do the work as it is designed. You will notice on your back cast the rod loads as you stroke back and the line straightens out. As the ine is about to straighten out completely is when you start the front cast. You will then see and feel the rod start to load for the forward cast. The other thing that a lot of new fly casters don't do is make a pronounced stop at the end of the casting stroke, think 10 & 2 oclock. This allows the road to load and unload properly. On an experienced fly caster you may not see it but trust me, it is there. The other piece of the puzzle is on the forward stroke after the stop at 10:00, drop the rod tip to almost paralell to the water and that will help the line shoot straight. Get out there and cast and let us know the problems and we can help pinpoint more of the exact problems and how to rememdy them.

Nrx Snaps, What To Do ?
That sucks but use the wild card. As far as rod sleeves go I have no worries. I mean if you are worried about a rod sleeve then how do you fish with the rod let alone set the rod down in your boat.

Get a class or some private instruction and your learning curve will be dramatically shortened. I would also recommend doing it soon before you develop bad habits that will be harder to break.

Can It Be Too Hot For Fish To Be Active??
In my experience it can be different to catch bass when it is pretty hot but at the same time bass are cold blooded so the warmer the water the more food that is needed for them to survive because there metabolism is higher. I have caught fish when surface temps were high 80's but you need to find the areas where they are as warmer water generally doesn't hold as much oxygen. This is where finding moving water or shady areas are key.

Revo S Or Citica G
I have 2 citica g models and really like them. I use them both on mh rods that see Texas rigs, jigs frogs and square bills and I have nary a complaint on either of them. I have a buddy who fishes with the revo s and loves his reel too so like has already been advised, check them out on your rod and see which one feels better in your hand. I don't think either are bad choices.

Why Do You Bass Fish?
Stockers aren't that fun to me either and honestly the only trout on the east coast I like to target are browns and mostly brookies. I have fished up in pa a few times and the best part is the history of spring creek fishing as we know it originated there. If I had a choice I would fish out west as those trout are a completely different animal. All the cuthroats, goldens and the bull trout are all native to the area and much more difficult to fish for than the trout out east. I just may take you up on the offer though if I can get away from the smallies when I visit pa.

Why Do You Bass Fish?
To me bass fishing is about location. I like outdoors activities and depending on my locale i pick up a certain sport. Growing up i bass fished because it was close by and i coudl fish the delaware river within about 15 minutes. When i moved to VA for college i was close to the mountains so i picked up fly fishing for trout in the mountain streams, rock climbing, mountain biking and hiking. I usually focus on one or two things exclusively but since moving to Richmond i went back to bass fishing and picked up a kayak as there are probably 30 lakes i can hit within an hour drive and the James river and it's various tributaries are no more than 15 minutes away. I do love fishing for bass more as a puzzle than anything but i would go back to fishing for native brookies in the mountains in a second if it was closer. There is nothing better than hiking into a mountain stream early in the morning and catching brookie after brookie on dry flies and not seeing another person all day long.

Nice Trailer Alternative To Rage Tail Or Speed Craw
They look good to me and as long as they catch fish then save the extra cash.

Rapala Scatter Rap...well???
I caught a couple on the shad version when the water was a little colder. It does have pretty good action and i have found it works better thrown on M spinning gear than baitcasting gear myself. I do wonder how it will be in vegetation or wood cover with that curved lip but i think it will be really good in rocky bottom rivers for smallies. Hopefully i can test my theory out this weekend.

No More Redskins
Unless you are a full blood Native American I feel you cannot really judge at how this is just someone being politically correct. There are plenty of names that all of us would agree are from what should be used in normal speech let alone the name of a professional sports team. Also eagles fans get a much worse rap than they deserve. Plenty of other teams have more violence happen at games but nobody cares because they weren't the fans who threw snowballs at a drunk replacement Santa Claus 60 years ago. I am an eagles fan and have been to dozens of games across many different stadiums and I haven't seen anything different in any of them with regards to visiting fans. This is usually how it goes, people go to a game and tailgate (in philly this usually starts the night before) everyone has a good time and usually get pretty lit. Someone says something stupid, could be home or visiting team and the beer muscles come out. Most times it is nothing more than posturing but there is always one tough guy who has to prove he is the best drunk fighter and a fight ensues which of course is never a good thing. Now I will say that as a visitor in the linc you will get heckled and depending on the people it could get ugly but it rarely turns physical in the stadium, well except between eagles fans. I have been heckled in Baltimore, DC, Atlanta the meadowlands etc....and have yet to get into a fight. Basically you do something stupid and alcohol is involved stupid things will happen. One thing I will say that is better in philly than other stadiums is the respect for kids. I have seen numerous times where people are using less than appropriate language around kids and people will stand up for the families, same goes for catching a foul ball over a kid and not giving him the ball....be prepared to be harassed the rest of the game Sorry to derail the thread but after the phillies game tonight I needed to vent a little

Surprised My Rod Tip Broke
How can you love a rod you keep breaking? Sounds more like he loves the warranty/BPS service.

Micro Guides
I recently picked up a few of the micro guide rods and I haven't noticed any difference from standard guides. I would also think that your accuracy is not affected by the guides but rather the entire setup. I would think micro guides would be more accurate because the line doesn't have as much "play" as it does in a standard guide but that is purely hypothetical on my part. I have heard of guys who use a leader having more difficulty with the leader knot passing through and really cold weather fishing they will probably ice up faster. Other than that it is for weight savings and another marketing ploy really. Micro guides wasn't a consideration when I picked up my rods, they just happened to have them.

Catching Other Fish While Bass Fishing
I have caught lots of pickerel a few catfish bowfin and carp. The craziest thing I ever caught though was when I was throwing a weightless Texas rigged yum dinger and as I crawled it over a grass mat a 16" crappie nailed it on top....first time I have had that happen.

Horny Toads, What Works For A Better Hook Ratio?
Yeah you gotta wait for a second then set but as far as hooks go, I prefer a screw lock 4 or 5/0 trokar myself.

Kayak Trailer Modifications.
Looks good. I would also be concerned about the emt being held by screws only and even the strength of the pipe itself. You should probably move those j racks in a little closer to the center too because it looks like it is already flexing. Other than that looks nice. I have been debating on getting a trailer for my kayaks too but just haven't pulled the trigger....to many other things I want instead

Won A Fishing Kayak! Finally Joining The Addiction.
I had the Scotty holders but I went with ram mounts. The fly holder works better with the fly rod and spinning set ups and I also like versatility of the angle of the mounting.
