  1. Yeah, I have gone out to Douglas before, but not Horsetooth. I have been thinking about joining the Centennial Bass Club, but we are moving soon. I may just wait until we do move. We are moving to Texas. Thanks for the info!
  2. I just caught one the other day on a Booyah frog.
  3. I tried using swivels when switching between different lipless crankbaits quickly, as I had heard someone say to do that in a video, but I didn't like it. I don't know that I would use them otherwise.
  4. Maybe try fishing a jig? Generally you can fish those pretty slow, and though you don't get as many bites, you can get some pretty big ones. At least that's what I have seen from some of the BassResource videos and a couple KVD ones I have seen. I am just now trying to learn the jig. I am trying to figure out how not to lose all my jigs in submerged trees at the moment. I'm still fishing from shore.
  5. I have to say that I understand. There are dozens of little holes all over the area I live, but 95% are private/restricted access. The remaining 5% leaves only a couple places that are worth throwing a line into. Most of them freeze over and only a few fish survive the winter, they aren't big enough ponds to grow any bass over 1lb. Don't get me wrong, I would catch 1 pounders all day if that was all I had. However, I know that there are bigger better bass all around. I'm just frustrated at all the private lakes that don't see more than maybe a couple boaters a weekend and they're hundreds of acres. No one is even using these bodies of water. They just have them to look pretty. I have found every blue spot on google earth and wasted lots of gas and time either trying to get there or looking up whether it is public or not online. The only thing I have figured out is that water is very restricted here. I have made a lot of friends but no one has any clue what I am talking about since everyone fly fishes the rivers like it is the only type of fishing to do. Maybe they are right. Even a $200 kayak is pretty far out of the question for me right now. I'll just pull my hat down tight and fish what I can where I can. I can't wait to move. Waiting on my house to sell. Maybe I can get a boat with left over money from that. (doubt it) Thanks for allowing my rant as well.
  6. Hey everyone. I live up in Northern Colorado. I work out of Fort Collins, so I fish the riverbend ponds before work or at lunch when I can. I live up in Livermore though and a few times now I have heard people say there is great fishing up here, and I have no idea what they're talking about. Anyone know where these "great places to fish" are? I live just east of 287. The only places I can find are in Wellington and most of them seem like private lakes. How can I tell what is public? I am guessing all the fishing is west of me. Thanks for the help!
  7. I'll talk to others that I pass about half the time, as well as if they start up the conversation. I have learned some useful things. That being said, I might see someone else fishing 1 out of 5 times out as no one seems to fish where I do. Most everyone I meet is out walking a dog or something.
  8. Well, it started to rain again today. I was planning on going out with the kids as they begged to go the last couple days, but the one is 3 and the other isn't quite 2 yet, so no real fishing got done. My wife was busy with our youngest, so.... yep. Turned into a picnic, which was nice. A lot of the ponds are flooded up into the grass and trees which will be nice when I get a chance to go. It looks like probably early Monday morning. I'm not sure how much the ponds will decrease if any by then, but it would be nice if they didn't. We'll see I guess. Thanks for the help everyone. I'll try out as much of the baits you all suggested as I currently have as soon as I can.
  9. Hahaha, I had to scroll back up, didn't even realize it was dirty. I don't own a boat or depth finder obviously, but I would probably do the same.
  10. I have already watched the video, but both articles were really helpful in my opinion, especially the second one. Thanks!
  11. Sounds good. Well, I guess I will try topwater first thing tomorrow morning then, if it has stopped raining.
  12. Well, I tried to go out this morning, but everything is flooding and they are closing most of the roads. I couldn't even get to work after attempting to fish for a bit. I had to go home. Hopefully I can go out with the kids tomorrow and take them. There is still a high possibility of rain tomorrow as well, but with all the ponds over flowing their banks, hopefully that will mean new fishing possibilities. Thanks for all the advice everyone. I got out and fished a spinnerbait slow and fast in a couple areas and a frog, but didn't get anything after about 30 minutes I was pretty wet. I guess I should pull my rain gear out of storage. I haven't needed it much since being in Colorado, but I guess it would have helped this morning.
  13. I can't seem to find the right search words for the forums to find a thread on this, and I didn't see any articles in the Fall section either, maybe someone can point me in the right direction or help here. I live in Northern Colorado and mostly get to fish small ponds. i have no boat, so i am bank fishing. It has been raining for the past three days (more like drizzling). The rain is cool and has put the air temperatures in the 50's at night and 60's to low 70's during the day. Previous temperatures for the last couple weeks were in the mid 80-90's during the day and 70's at night (I think). Can I fish a certain pattern in the rain? Do I need to do something different? I know the cold rain has to have dropped the surface temperature considerably. Should I wait for the rain to stop? I see pros fish in the rain all the time, what are they doing to compensate? It is supposed to let up starting tomorrow afternoon supposedly. I will probably try to fish in the morning regardless, but an idea on what has changed for the fish for the weekend would be helpful. I was out there a couple days ago when it was pretty light, but had nothing going on and no clue where to look. I am more or less asking in general, not necessarily just in the current situation. What do ya'll do in the rain? Thanks in advance. Oh and it is really foggy at my house, though when I drive into town it clears up. That may have to do with the 3000 foot elevation drop going into town, but does fog change the game plan altogether as well?
  14. Well this answers that I definitely do not have any shad around me. I have been trying to figure out what these little fish are. They look pretty similar to this bait, only about an inch longer: http://www.basspro.com/Rapala-Skitter-Pop/product/15519/ They are in the ponds around here. They ball up in little groups moving the top of the water and occasionally jumping out. Would that be a minnow? I can't get a very close look since I am on shore and they are usually about 30-40 feet out at the closest.
  15. Congratulations!
  16. I remember hearing on a video, not sure if it was from here or somewhere on Youtube, that if they are hooked there, it is because they are trying to kill it. I think the video was in reference to the spawn though. I'm not sure how accurate that is or if it applies to this time in the season.
  17. Thanks! These both look pretty easy. I'll have to keep this in mind in case I ever need it.
  18. I've never had a gut hooked fish. I have seen a video on the technique, but I don't remember how it went. Can someone post info on the technique for me and those who don't know?
  19. I second that, not that I have a boat. I fish a lot of fallen timber since that is all I have and primarily use the T-rig. I set whichever way I am retrieving. If I am retrieving to the side, I set that way. If my tip is up on the retrieve I set that way. Mostly because of not wanting to get the line or fish caught up coming out of the timber. I learned this by setting the hook in the fish and then into a submerged tree limb at the same time, pinning the fish to the tree with my line and the hook. However, if you let out a couple inches of slack, the fish can get your hook free. I stood there for a minute wondering what to do since I could see the fish and realized the hook was in a tree limb. After a minute of wondering, the fish popped the hook free and I brought him in. Sorry, that was a bit of a side track.
