Does anyone ever “double set” the hook
No, I get it done with one hookset and seldom have a problem.

Fishing in the rain (South Florida)
I fished two days in a row from the bank. A total of 4 hours in the rain Friday and Saturday, no lightning. I put on my Frog Toggs, hat, and hood. Dry as a bone, the entire time, they are not hot, and it never stopped raining. I don't change baits just because its raining. Got to go with what you have confidence in. If I'm taking the boat and there is a threat of a storm, I go to the Alley. Lots of bridges to tie up under, until the threat passes. I have sat out many storms under the Alligator Alley bridges.

Speculate: What do we think caused this?
Just the location of the wound looks like it came from a bird.

fishing alone or with a partner?
I always enjoy fishing with a partner whenever I go out. I have 5 good fisherman I can call who fish with me often. They all have different skills and will sometimes get on a pattern before I do. They don't have boats, and I provide an opportunity to fish places they don't normally fish. Once on a pattern we will make adjustments from there. It is always better when you share the experience with a friend.. There are always lots of laughs, and it just makes for a better experience. Its all about having fun!?

Fishing during thunderstorms
When there is a threat of thunderstorms I go fish places with bridges. I will tie up under the bridge until it passes. If I’m on open water I trailer the boat and go home. Open water and lightning can kill you!

Just have to calm dowwwwwwwwn
When it gets tough, slow way down, put a black berry U-vibe, or a june bug U-vibe on and crawl it slow along the bottom. You will catch a bass, and maybe a hawg deep. Speeding up usually limit your chances on a slow day.

Kevin VanDam Headlines the 2018 Bass Fishing Hall of Fame Inductees
The man is a power fishing machine. I have seen him lose a big bass at the boat and not so much as a wimpier, or tantrum, like some of these guys. His lure was back in the water in seconds, and back in focus. He is not the guy you want in second place when your winning with 30 minutes left. 6 million in winnings, and he has a long time left to go.

Looking for some walkie talkies
Sounds like you need a satellite phone for what your after. An App on your I-phone will give the phones location even if you don't have service. Even deep in the everglades I still get service with At&t. I never go out without telling the wife where I'm going and when to expect me back. I leave FWL#, and Florida Fish and Game#, if she needs to call them. In summer always take plenty of extra water with you. If you do have mechanical problems, clean water will be the most crucial variable.

What seems to never work for you...
In south Florida with a host of shallow weed filled lakes, I seldom throw crankbaits. The trebles with all the weeds are nothing but problems. I did fish the Stick Marsh with a guy that was throwing a squarebill cranks. Everyone was struggling except him. The buoyant square bill was catching fish consistently. He had a knocker that he used to free the crank on all the wood in the area. When things get tough I usually turn to plastics fished slow along the bottom.;

Punching Lox
If I was fishing tournaments I agree, you do what you have to get a check, including Flipping and Pitching. Since I don't fish for competition, I do what I enjoy, and roll the dice. I don't care what others do, its all about enjoying the experience, and catching some fish. Hundreds of pitches for one fish is not why I'm out there. Others can knock themselves out, that's great if they catch a few big ones. I throw them back anyway, and seldom measure or weight unless their over 8 pounds. I'm done by noon, don't go in high winds, because I don't enjoy fighting the wind. I'm not on a big fish hunt, It happens anyway, without flipping. Its all about being out with friends, and having a good time, and finding some fish. It doesn't get any better then that, for me! I will tell exactly where I'm fishing, what I'm doing, and willing to help others. I know people on this sight that will not give any accurate info, will post others pics from the internet and claim the pics are theirs. I am happy when others I take do well. Its none competitive for me, I spent 43 years in a highly competitive business, fishing was my relief from that pressure, and always will be. Do what you enjoy, and have fun. When it stops being fun, I'll stop.

South Florida Bass rod setup
No I'm not going to tell you you can't catch a big fish on spinning gear. I caught a double digit on spinning gear in Florida, but I was real lucky to get my hands on that monster. Fishing Florida all you have to do is go to a big FLORIDA tournament, and look at 95% of the rods and reels in use, and that says it all. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure it out! For our shallow, thick, weedy, pad filled waters, baitcasters, heavy line, at least medium heavy rods are where its at! Watch what the Florida pros use at Okeechobee, Poga, Kissimmee, and Toho.

Punching Lox
Pitching and flipping are great techniques, but when it comes to enjoyment, its a zero for me. I have spent time doing it, but its a lot of work for little action. I have a set up, but don't often take it. If fishing gets tough enough to need it, I will go home, and have a cold beer. I just do what I like to do!?

Would you be annoyed or am I a jerk?
Do you like this guy? If the answer is yes, then let him do whatever he wants. If you are out fishing him, he will make adjustments on his own, without any help from you. Obviously he likes doing what he doing every trip. Just let him figure it out himself. If the answer to the original question is no, stop taking him fishing, and take someone else!

Using Your Thumb (finger)
In south Florida with shallow lakes, and weeds everywhere a loose drag will get you in big trouble especially with a good size bass. Upon the setting, a bass will normally go deep and dive into cover. We also have pads everywhere that will get you wrapped in a heart beat. I lock down my drag all the time, never use less then 15 pound test line, and will go up to 65 pound braid depending on technique. Getting their head up and headed for the boat as soon as possible, is key down here. Anything less will get you in trouble quick! There is little time for playing with a big fish, if you want to touch them!

A bad day of fishing is better...
I fish almost everyday, either from the boat or the bank, and have for over 40 years. It is total relaxation mentally for me. No matter how bad a day I'm having, as soon as I make that first cast all the problems go away. It doesn't matter how many I catch, what size they are, or even if I only catch a few, I am relaxed, and at peace. I put some ear buds in, good music, and just focus on that line and the water. The only time the excitement starts is when I set the hook and it feels like a moving cider block. I love every minute with a rod and reel in my hand. The only thing that makes me upset is if the reel, rod, or line are not functioning properly!

Weirdest pattern you’ve ever been on?
Tried crawling a worm along the bottom, nothing. Tried a jig deep and slow, nothing. Tried a Senko at various depths jerking, and dead sticking, nothing. Went to a wacky rigged trick worm deep, and snapping off the bottom. It was every other cast. Same place as before with all the other baits. It was magical for hours.

Fishing License
Florida seniors don't need a license to fish freshwater. A perk for being an old fart! I certainly appreciate it after all those years of buying one.

19ft skiff Everglades canals
There are a few weirs in the canals that are only a problem during low water conditions. Don;t run wide open if you don;t know the area. I always watch what others do if i don;t know an area, on any body of water. Most canals are 8 to 12 feet deep.

Braid Line Abrasion?
Braid does not do well with sharp limestone rock walls. I am surrounded by these man made lakes with lots of straight down rock walls. Floro and mono hold up much better when in contact with this type of structure.

Just curious, anybody eat bass from around everglades?
Mercury levels are high especially in bigger bass in the everglades. I would not eat them or allow any of my family to eat them. Lots of better tasting fish available in Florida salt waters.

19ft skiff Everglades canals
No problem getting in any canals and motoring around. Leave the canal and go in the flats and you may have a problem.

Dead Sticking
Been there done that! But it does send you an immediate message!

Dead Sticking
I only use this tech when things are really slow. I will let it sit for almost 30 seconds and then two little jerks and then sit again, jerks only shake the bait. The hit often comes after the jerks and it sits again. Being curious I think they move into the strike zone and watch the bait. When it shakes they make a strike. It has saved many a slow day. I often use trick worms, beavers, hollow tube baits, and even flukes. Almost any plastic will do.

Question: So What Do You Have on Your Boat or Take With You that has Nothing to do with Bass Fishing?
Key components! A heavy duty garbage bag, for the empty livewell, A roll of of toilet paper, clean wipes for multiple uses, and an empty Mason Jar so I don't need to stand on the edge of the boat any more. Its as good as the throne at home. Don't Leave Home without it!
