  1. Got to Briery at about 10:30 Saturday... Foggy as all get out and about 58 (64 when we left) out. Water was at 50 - 54 depending on where we were. Fished stumps and trees in the 5 - 20 transition on a ledge with a 3/8 jig and craw trailer, slow to very slow presentation. Caught one chunk that went about 1.25 and that was it. Pretty rough day overall as the sun never really broke through and the wife was not loving the January chill. We fished until about 2:30 and then had to head back in. This was my first trip to Briery and I can definitely see why it produces so many big fish... what a body of water. With that said, oh man was it an adventure trying to cross that lake - everything I have read about the stumps is true and then some. I was glad to get out there though and even happier when I realized it's only about an hour and 15 minutes from the house. Gonna try out Sandy River next and then hopefully tournament season will be upon us. Thank you to everyone who gave me some pointers, the spots I tried were amazing... I am actually excited to get out there and fish some ledges in June and July. I learned how to do it last year on Kentucky lake and wowza does the deep water layout at Briery get me excited. Hope everyone had a great weekend!
  2. I'll be out at Briery with my wife on Saturday, work all day tomorrow... Let us know how you do!
  3. Heading out to Briery this weekend with the warm front coming through (70s both days this weekend with lows only in the upper 40s/lower 50s for 3 straight days. This will be my first trip to Briery and I am fishing out of my 9' pond prowler with a 50# MinnKota, which I am sure is going to limit where I can go. I have been studying the maps and am trying to decide where I want to head and how I want to fish... Not really chasing a big bite, just would like to catch some fish since my wife will be with me (she gets bored with the finer aspects of fishing but likes catching them). Any input about fishing 70 degree weather in early January or tips/ideas about where I should head would be greatly appreciated.
  4. One of my favorite places to fish... There are seriously so many great spots on the lake. Around Cook public use area there are some flats (go right coming out of the landing) back in some coves that are about 5 - 8 foot deep that drop off to 20ish feet at the main lake points there, one of the most productive spots on the lake... Wacky rigged senkos (black, blue flake) and jigs during the summer. Jerk baits worked like a crank on a medium retrieve, cast them up shallow and slow roll them back over the rock drop offs during the spring and early summer... they'll tear them up. That cove holds fish all spring and summer, lots of fish, you can limit there quickly if you hit it right. The bluff that runs south from party cove... flip 1/4 ounce jigs down the bluff walls pre-spawn, there is a big spawning flat directly south of the wall, so the fish move back and forth along that wall all spring. It gets shallower as it runs towards the flat, so if you can figure out where they're at, you can do well pre-spawn. There's a big creek that opens up directly south east of that spawning flat and the two main lake points there are great spots - they get a lot of pressure though. There is an old road bed that runs on the south side of that creek that can hold fish too, another great pre-spawn "highway" if you will. I love fishing Percy Priest, the main lake points and abundance of structure make it awesome; however, it can also make it a pain in the butt to find where they are because there are so many good spots that seem like they should hold fish. Fish the conditions, definitely try some of the spots I mentioned, especially that first one (I oughtta charge for that piece of advice) and find the shad. Good luck, hope this helps you out some.
  5. Just got back in the swing of things after the holidays and hopped on the board to catch up and saw this awesome post. Sam, I'm on a non-boater out of Fort Lee and meet all the pre-requisites, and now I am stoked to know that there is a Richmond club that allows non-boaters to compete! I hope to see you guys at the upcoming January meeting - is there anything I should know or do that you haven't already laid out before I show up? Thanks!! Look forward to meeting you guys and chasing big bites in 2013.
  6. It'll hold 2. It's 9' and get's around pretty good.
  7. I'm looking at joining you guys for the meet and greet. Quick question about the Potomac... I fish out of a Pond Prowler 55# TM. If the meet and greet is there, will it be too much for my little raft to handle? Thanks and I look forward to getting out and meeting you guys and learning something about bassin in VA.
  8. Good afternoon everyone... My name is Josh. I moved to Prince George this summer from Pleasant View, TN and have been learning my way around the area ever since. I am looking forward to getting to know some folks through this site who share my love of bass fishin and maybe even finding a local club to fish with. I'll continue to look around and try and see what I can find on here. Thanks and yall have a good day.
