hi ROLO.im pretty familiar with many/most of the woods/lakes/canals/trails here in south florida,ever since i was a lil boy exploreing the forest/fishing/camping/atving has been my passion 2 say the least..nomraly i scout new locations on goggle maps & try 2 get as much info on that area as i can online,,then ill go out there in my truck 2 explore it even more,2see the parking situation etc..then if all looks good ill go out there full fishing,camping atving gear & spend all day or more,when i find a good spot in the woods i always mark it with my gps,1 tool that has been invaluable 4 me in scouting out new grounds 2fish is ( A DUAL SPORT MOTORCYCLE) i have its a street legal dirt bike.ill pack my backpack with my fishin gear n lunch and head into the woods,no truck,trailer or atv or parking hassles,its like riding a needle thru the woods haha.....LARRYC7856.I got good tip about the L28 canal& i keep hearing there alot of fish in that canal but u need to go all the way 2 the end of it,there an enterence to that canal at the 40mile bend on tamiami trail heading west,but theres a security gate there,i think i can go around it in my dual sport motorcycle,that dirt raod is in good shape n goes stright to the end of the canal.option #2 is a dirt road a few miles west of the enterence i talked about above,but this road can me a mess with mud/water...i will certainly be exploring this canal in the near future 2the fullest..this is what i get high on hahhaa,

i have seen on youtube these ladder racks that u put on ur truck and a winch puts the boat on top and lowers it for you,the problem is its like,$1500.big ones.lol

yes i know buddy i was thinking of that,this 1 weights 150lb with nothing on it,im considering putting an electric winch on my trucks bed to help me pull it in,,ive lunched a 12ft and 14ft over the side of a canal and then poped on the motor n gear,ill admit the 12ft,was a breezz compaired to the 14ft jon boat.

yep! 4 sure gonna use heavy duty (rachet straps),im happy i can put it on my truck,i dont have any room left for another trailer in my yard.

yes i plan on strapping it down well,adding (reflective tape)to the back n the side where the boat sticks out of the bed and 2 red warning flags on the back of the boat...i wanted a jon boat as a back up boat n 2be able to fish remote lakes/canals to just dump it over the side n fish.

hey guys i need ur help here on this, a buddy of mine is selling me a 14ft jon boat in awesome conditions at an awesome price,but it dont have a trailer,the bed on my 97 f150 with its tail gate down is 10ft-2inches long.so the boat would stick out the bed 4ft..does any 1 here know what the legal limit is in florida as to how far out i can have this jon boat sticking out the back of my truck?..thank you,u guys r awesome!.

i do agree with u sir...some of my buddys think im nuts cuse ill ride my atv full of fishing/camping gear thru the woods 15 miles or more,many times cutting a path as i ride,every time ive done this 2 reach a spot,its been a huney hole 4 me.for me those really out of the way canals n lakes have been very productive...

ive got all sorts of fish with bread balls thruout the years . bass dont really like bread,they like more of a moving bait,a live shiner being excellent..all the times ive fished with bread,ive had other fish like bull gills & oscars hit it 100times faster then a bass.,last time i used bread, 3 bass kinda nibbled on the bread but didnt swallow it,now the oscars it was 1 right after the other...

..Hey guys i was wondering, does any 1 here us an (ATV) 2 explore,scout out or get 2ur fishing location deep in the woods?..4me my 4 wheeler is priceless,it has been a great tool to getting 2 really remote n great fishing locations only accesable by atv.

this pasted tuesday i was in the everglades on my atv, exploring a new canal i found on goggle maps.in 2 hours i hooked like 20fish all types,small bass,oscars,snake heads,cat fish, a few gars,using a bobber & live bait,then i see this huge fish i thought it was a cat fish coming up2 my bait,2 my suprize it was a huge caro,dam this did look like a fresh water tarpon,i calculated its size between 3ft n 4ft long,it was a monster!!..the size of the scales was amazing they looked like quarter sized..i assume to net that fish u need a heavy action rod and like 60lb text line?

sirsnookalot.that is good idea of cutting a fin off the bait,it does work better then squishing the bait a lil..i have 2 admit with live bait ive never gone ( fish less).if not snook,snappers,jacks or something else but always hook fish...have u gone fishless using live baits???

for me personally,the lure that has produced the most hits & fish thruout all my years and in all different water conditions & with all sorts of fish,has been the black & silver minnow that rattles..thats my #1 lure.ive got jacks,bass,peacocks,snappers,oscars,u name it..for a while ive beens sticking to live baits that i get with my net,that always produces fish for me hands down.

for fresh or salt water???..real bait or fake?? and what fish do u have in mind 2 go after?

yes i found them under ( armored cat fish )online.they an ugly looking fish..,can u buy algae at a bait shop n put it on a hook hahaha.

a friend of my dad's lives in keylargo n has a deep water canal (20ft deep) with brakish water behind his house,i dove in that canal and there wasnt even bait fish(dead waters).he started drumping old bikes,rocks,washing machine,55gal.drums, anything that would create a reef.about 1 year later,the section of canal behind his house was full of bait fish,we would catch good eating snappers right on his dock.we even saw 2 jew fish come in once..so i dont about fresh water but creating a cover/reef works well in salt water.

thats great info (bassinlou)..is there any type of biat u can use 2 catch them?.i think grass carps r veggie eaters too but they bite on the line.

awesome fish buddy im glad u had fun with it,thats what its all about (fun)..1 area that has always been very productive for me going back to the early 80's is all the canals on gables water ways.there even gators in there (seen them).i would put a jon boat at dinner key marina & hit the canals,ive got snook,snappers,look downs,cat fish,peacocks,small tarpon,cudas,sheepshead,grunts.always during the week (no holidays) and especially at night!!.at night u can hear fish jumping all over..

as ( bassinlou ) suggested use goggle earth & maps..in all honesty thats 1 of my main tools 2 scout out new fishing locations.i love 2 explore new fishing grounds & dont mind taking the time 2 do it..i just found a new remote canal deep in the woods east of card sound road in homestead,that looks very promising,ill have 2 cut a trial thru the woods just 2 get 2 it,im all ready getting my atv & gear ready 2 go fish it on tuesday 2 see what happens..im taking lures,live worms,bread balls & my casting net.im pulling fish out of there if its the last thing i do hahaha.

when a day is that bad,ill even go after the big sucker fish just 2 have some fun hahaha..what kind of fish where those ( sucker fish) u saw buddy?...

i love 2 catch fish period the faster n easier the better,thats y i am a big fan of casting nets/live bait..i saw that too this guy using live bait & catching bass & many other fish left and right,he would squish the bait 2 give it that sick/injured montion in the water..i learned fast i tell you.

sorry 2 hear that buddy there are days like that,that y i always carry my casting net,live bait never fails...did u see any fish activity out there ,any signs of life?..maybe the fish r still hungover from new years eve partying hahaha...

hahahaha,dont feel bad buddy,i have friends n family like that too...I was out there on new years eve at 6am,i found a nice area 2 set up a camp & i hid all the gear i had on the atv in the woods & went fishing 4 a few hours.(i landed a few fish).then i came back 2 my camp,made a small fire,cooked some hot dogs 4 lunch,made coffee,relaxed a bit & then set up a few target 2 practice with a 22 rifle i took....i loved it wish i could been out there alot longer.

me and a buddy we had a 14ft jonboat with a yamaha 15hp..some of the best fishing we did,was just pulling the boat of the trailer & into a canal or lake any were then popping the motor back on.we would have access to waters no 1 else had cuse they needed a boat ramp...good luck buddy.
