New Setup Advice
I would stick with St Croix for now. The Legend Xtreme is their top of the line for a reason. I don't think the the Dobyn's come even close. St Croix has every technique or set up covered. Take advantage of their sponsorship, that's why you have it.

Best Bass Baits For Small Ponds
I fish some ponds around here and almost always down-size whatever I'm throwing. Don't forget the Beetle Spin.

Inline Spinners
It's so funny that I even read this post. I don't throw many inline spinners down here in Texas, rarely actually, but I was just in the garage looking at an old Hildebrandt inline that I love to throw over matted hydrilla wondering if I could duplicate it. Then I came in and saw this post. Lots of good ideas and good looking baits. Back to the garage!

Closed Face Spincast Reels - Any Good For Bass Fishing?
The Zebco 33's were what a lot of bass fishermen used back in the day. I still have a few of the older ones. If you can find the ones with the "screw lock" that allows you to remove the face, those are really good. Great for shooting docks! You really need good line to keep them from not picking the line up. I like Berkley XL, it seems to work the best for me. Johnson made some good ones too but you have to get the older models as well.

How To Deal With Complete Beginners?
CP, Package is on it's way. There should be enough to share with your friend. The packaged hard baits were purchased in the late 60's or early 70's..... you may want to put them on the shelf. Enjoy!

How To Deal With Complete Beginners?
First off CP I commend you on taking him fishing in the first place. You are a fine example of what fishing is all about. If it weren't for our peers a lot of us either wouldn't be fishing or would be like your friend. You may find you have established a life-long friendship. Be patient, teach what you know and the new things you learn. He will make a lot of mistakes and really try your patience but when you two are older you can look back and probably have some good laughs. You will have plenty of time to fish but maybe not a lot of opportunities to share it with others. By the way.....as of this post, you have made 403 posts. YOU'VE WON A PRIZE! PM me your address and I'll see that you get it!

Death Shimmer.......single Blade Spinnerbait
Check these out. This guy fishes the FLW Pro Am. I have a few of his spinner baits and they're really good. http://www.2mfishing.com/ Click "where to buy" Then click spinner baits. His page needs updating but he has the color and blade set up to want. If you like you can PM me and let me know what your looking for and I can make sure you get a quick response. Here are a couple of mine. I should've re-sized them but was in a rush. I can email them if you like.

Any Idea Who Makes......?
Dropshot 40, several of your posts state that GLV is the manufacturer or producer. Their web site states they are a wholesaler/dist. for manufacturers in Asia.

New Tackle Sugestions
+1 on the Bomber Square A, Excalibur makes a square bill called Pumpkin-seed that's my favorite, looks sorta like a sunfish. Can't go wrong with a blue/chrome rattle trap. Looks like you have a good start. I'm partial to any plastic that has watermelon or green pumpkin in it but that's what I have confidence in.

Bps Extreme B/c Reel...is It Worth It?
I have three of them and like them a lot. I've had no problems with them at all. I think they're really smooth reels for the price.

Fishing Bedding Fish!
When I posted this I just asked a general question about hurting the spawn when in "my" mind I was more concerned with the results of this tournament, on this lake, but didn't make that clear. My concern with this tournament is that the fish will be removed from the beds at the upper end of the lake and released after weigh in at the opposite (deep end) of the lake. With 5-fish limits, that could be a lot of bedding fish. I can count on one hand....maybe two, the times I've caught fish off of beds. They were released in the same spot. No harm, no foul. Removing them from the beds and releasing them on the other end of the lake is my concern. Will they still spawn at that end? There have been studies that say some, but not all fish, return to where they were caught.

Fishing Bedding Fish!
"Come on down" Speedbead, we can go hit Fork just because we can. I've never done really well there, 1- 9+, 2- 8's and a couple 7's and broke off a few that could've gone over 10 but there a too many smaller lakes that have produced sharelunkers (over 13). We can go to Grapevine and you can teach me how to catch smallies!

Fishing Bedding Fish!
Actually i have done research on stocking and maintaining "ponds". And I agree that if the spawn is interrupted there will be more forage for the existing fish. The millions and millions of fry is actually somewhere around 600k a year in a 27,000 acre lake. Which means only a hundred or so make it to maturity. Apparently TPWD knows what's best...they've created one of the best fisheries in the nation. Peace!

Fishing Bedding Fish!
Believe me I know there is another response, there are people down here that build platforms on their boats just for sight fishing. I actually saw one guy that had a stepladder in his boat. I welcome your response, sometimes that's the only way people learn. The effect may not be near what I make it out to be in my mind, (what little there is left) but when I see, or hear someone complain that his fish would have weighed more if she hadn't dropped her eggs in his live-well or in the net, you can't tell me that has no effect on the population. Toe-may- toe, Toe-maw-toe, I appreciate your response. Let's go fishing sometime!
