  1. If it's not too late, my advice for the price the Avid is the way to go. Don't get me wrong I like my GL2 and I find that fishing the GL2 is more comfortable for me...but you honestly get more bang for your buck from the Avid. Now if you paid 100-120 bucks for GL2 then I'd say Gl2. Also imy recommendation if you aren't set on both those rods... I'd take a look at the Fenwick Aetos or Elite Tech Smallmouth...strongly recommend them over the Avid. Definitely better bang for your buck. That is if BPS carries them. If you want to stay with Shimano/Loomis look at the Cumara line or Crucial too.
  2. Very true! I can't wait for the thaw, as soon as it gets warm enough I'm heading to the river. Course I'll be banking it in the beginning as I'm sure the river will be pretty rough when the thaw happens.
  3. Yeah read that article about that small town in Northern Cal, they will have no water by Summer. It is interesting how the whole state has ignored those problems and let it go that far. I really hope the state gets it's act together.
  4. Nice, it was warm for us too..great that you can see grass. I still have a ways to go, but for the first in a long time there are dry spots on my driveway. (No snow or ice or water)...
  5. Awesome man! I'm sure you'll be catching lots of fish on them.
  6. My favorite brands pretty much in my Signature. I find these three brands have the selection of rods types that I like to fish with. They all perform to what I think a Power/Action of rod is suppose to be. Breakdown is this - High End Shimano/Loomis rods for Bottom Contact (GLX, Cumulus and Cumara)...and Fenwick to fill in my other spots and for the price I can get the Aetos and ET Smallmouth, I find these rods are the best bang for your buck. Although Fenwick has been working it's way up to the ladder and becoming an overall favorite. This doesn't mean I won't try other brands. I still own 1 Abu, Daiwa and St. Croix.
  7. It definitely does help of course, I read a report about how this winter is going to help the Great Lakes..for one example because of the lakes being mostly Ice covered, (91% If I remember correctly) This will help reduce the evaporation that happens during the winter.
  8. For $100 it's a super duper deal! I own Gs, Es, and a B. All great! I'd get 2 if you can.
  9. You should wait it out for inventory clearance when the new one hits stores too.
  10. That looks like a great start to me...that spinning rod is THE BOMB. I have mine paired up with a Symetre 2500 FI, I also own a 7'0 Aetos M/F paired with a Stradic FJ 2500. Basically day in day out both of these rods are with me no matter what the day calls for, they are just that versatile. So basically they see more on the water time than any of my other setups.
  11. From what I've read, they are doing the Xpeditor Service. So it goes like this - Lifetime Warranty on defects or $100 to replace the rod and they will still honor the Wild Cards that are registered but that is going away. The Xpeditor service can be used on discontinued rods too, which is good news for all the Older G Loomis owners.
  12. Why not hold out for the Curado G when they go on sale for 100? That would be the best bang for your buck, but if your preference is only between these two reels then I'd say the price difference between them doesn't make the Revo S/Citica G range a lot better reel. (features..etc.) As for durability of a PQ look at Goose52s post regarding the PQ 5 year challenge. Of course for me, not that the PQ sucks..I just like the shape of the Citica G better than a PQ, especially for techniques where I like to palm the reel. So in the end it is whichever one your like that feels right, because either reel I'm sure will be on par performance wise.
  13. They don't work, so don't try. Seriously though, I find the crawfish colored cranks I have do better for smallies. Ratio is for me is (if I had to guess)5 to 1, but yeah they work. Especially lipless crankbaits that imitate craws, my local lakes and rivers..they smashem! I even had a baby smallie smash a lipless crankbait that it was barely bigger than.
  14. Exactly, sorry if I wasn't clear...once I hear thunder, I'm like man! Time to pack it in.
  15. I owned a Triumph once, fished it 2 times and said this thing is not for me. Sold it! For that price, I'd go to BPS during the rod trade in and get a Carbonlite or Veritas over a Triumph. (Veritas - 79.99 - 15 = 64.99, Carbonlite 99.99 - 15 = 84.99). If you don't have a rod to trade in, the sale price alone for the Veritas or Carbonlite is leaps and bounds better than that Triumph.
  16. After reading this futher, I maybe annoyed but I probably wouldn't be "mad"...unless he hit my boat or I get nailed. The way I'd look at it, he's fishing cover, he was skilled enough to cast under your boat and not hit you.
  17. Rain isn't the problem, it's that damned Thunder part!
  18. I know maybe an indoor pond and climate control so all your bass will be BIGUNS!
  19. I'm pretty annoyed yes by Winter of course, but I'm looking at it in a more positive way. It is a necessity for our waters. I just read a report regarding how the water this year will be higher than the average norm the last few years thanks to all the snow. Since 1996 I believe it stated, this will be the first year alot of the great lakes will keep more water. The ice cover is preventing evaporation during the winter months. So lakes like Huron (Georgian Bay Ontario, Canada) will see a severely needed water level rise. This also helps the fishery I read, but I can't remember the specifics. Also any land locked isle wildlife can now walk back and forth the ice, the advantage is to diversify the gene pool. Since 1996 a lot of the wolves for example who were land locked may now have a better pool. So that is how I'm looking at it.
  20. I owned a MH/F Avid in spinning and baitcasting..and I currently own Aetos in a H/F casting and M/F spinning. Here are the pros from my Avid experience : 1. Good sensitivity, nothing mind blowing but definitely a jump from a Veritas level. 2. Quality is great. Cons: 1. Fished heavier than rating 2. Tip heavy Aetos Pros: 1. Light Weight 2. Very sensitive (compare it in the 200-300 rod range) 3. Fishes power/action true (preference thing) 4. Very Good Quality build Cons: 1. Casting rod is tip heavy Plus you can find the Aetos cheaper than an Avid, so if it were me...recommendation would be the Aetos, more bang for your buck and fishes better than the Avid personally.
