  1. Trout fishing? ..lol Yeah definitely too close.
  2. If it was just between those two, I'd pick the Veritas every time. Someone stated the Veritas being heavier power than the rating, I feel the same for the St. Croix rods too. I also do not like the offerings by St. Croix below the Avid. If you really want to go St. Croix, I'd recommend that series over the Veritas. The Veritas is a better overall value at the 80 dollar price (vs Mojo or Premier), you go down a step (M/F) then I think it would be the better option than going MH/F or M/XF. Having saying that though if you can go up a level, the only St. Croix rod I own in my arsenal now is the Avid 6'6" M/F (Casting). Hands down in my humble opinion the best rod I've used for jerkbaits and swim jigs. I've never used it for wacky rigging though, but it should be fine. If you aren't set on your decision between Veritas and Mojo or Premier, my money would be all in at that price range on the Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth. I have the spinning version M/XF that can be used for wacky rigging and I do not see why it won't be able to do Jerkbaits (I use this rod mainly for super flukes). If you look around, you can get one for 100. This rod performs just as good as some of my mid-high end rods for half the price.
  3. Carbonlite Combo - Crankbaits, and swim /jigs/jigs/texas rigs up to 1/2 oz Mojo Bass - Spinnerbait, heavier plastics, swimbaits, frog and topwater
  4. Which swimbait are you talking about? I'm planning to do more swimbait fishing this year, along with cranking.
  5. Here's what I got on day 1 - New Net 2 Zoom Super Flukes - Lemon Shad and White 1 BPS Fluke - White 1 Spiderthread 30lb Braid 4 BPS Lazereye Spinnerbaits Havoc Grass Pig I'm thinking of going during the rod trade in...possibly getting a HMG or Sellus CB rod.
  6. I also go to this BPS...but I find the fishing department lacking in knowledge about their products. It gets a little annoying when they don't know the different types of jigs..etc. Overall though the prices are better than my local shops (lure/plastics wise) and fair. However the reel and rods around these parts are bloated in price. I still look forward to BPS, I don't just go for equipment (go to the seminars, meet local pros..etc)...I just like the "atmosphere" and I never had a timeshare person bug me either.
  7. This is my sentiment and whole heartedly agree, a 2-3# smallie is a thrill to catch.
  8. Yes it is the 7'2" and thanks Dan for the input. They don't have that model in store, but if I'm to get one I'd have to order one that is why i wanted to know about them since I'm going in blind.
  9. Oh I guess if you want to count the lures I've been getting from LTB.
  10. I don't think the issue will be finding open river, the problem is all the snow and way below freezing air that is stopping us.
  11. Not much this Winter, I picked up Zoom Super Flukes, 4 Spinnerbaits, 1 Havoc Grass Pig, 30lb Braid (Sabretooth) and a new net. I'm probably not getting much until the summer. I am looking for a new rod (crankbait) but I am being patient.
  12. Has anyone bought this rod yet or handle one in store. (I lost out on buying the Shimano Sellus CB Rods ). Comparing the lure ratings it seems the HMG is the same as the Sellus MH/F Crankbait, just curious to know if this can handle shallow to medium crankbaits and be my main squarebill rod.
  13. x4 I was almost afraid to click on the thread in case there was pictures.
  14. Whew, thought I had too much (100 bags). But thanks to everyone else I feel much better that I don't have that much...oh wait, or do I not have enough now? Hrm.
  15. HA! I'll be doing the same McAlpine. What you planning to get? I am planning to get a couple new spools of line, Zoom Super Flukes (Take advantage of 25% off), Havoc Grass Pigs (2.49 on sale plus rebate when you buy 3 1.49 after), swim baits (Not sure what kind yet or if I am) and get 3 spinnerbaits. No new rods or reels this time.
  16. This is the best option if you can get it at that price!
  17. Not saying they would be comparable. I just think my GLX today and 15 years from now would still be sensitive enough for anyone to be successful. I'm not saying I'd keep my arsenal without upgrade in that time though, I'm definitely going to buy upgrades every year or two.
  18. Sure technology has changed, but in reality a sensitive enough rod 10-15 years ago isn't going to really "change" your ability to fish with it 10-15 years more. The feel of the tug/bite will be the same it was then and in the future.
  19. Of course I do. Sometimes the situation may call for 2 different colors, two different sizes or two,..three..four different types! (Worm creature baits tubes frogs..on and on)
  20. That sounds very odd, I definitely can throw a 3/8 oz jig with trailer farther than a spinnerbait. Is it the same trailer? Maybe try throwing the jig without the trailer and see if that works? Other thing it can be is what 2BC4 said, could be your rod can't load it up well. Other suggestion is to get your reel serviced by a professional unless of course you know how to do it yourself.
  21. The lakes and ponds around my area will be frozen for awhile too, however our local river is not ice covered. Unfortunately the issue is no bass fishing until June. I will probably go for Pike though as soon as these temperatures go mild..at least bank fish or if I'm brave enough take my Kayak out.
  22. What he said, this would make it highway robbery.
  23. My go to all around is a 6'9" M/XF spinning rod...spooled with 10lb braid with 6 or 8 lb floro leader. Most of the time, even shore fishing I take 3-4 rods still.
  24. A lot of people still use the Curado CU200B and it is still part of my rotation. I can still sell them for a decent price (80) one guy wanted to buy it from me right then and there... but I refused. The thing is a tank!
