Anyone Have Any Luck In Southern Nh Yet? (4/6/12)
I like taking kids and people who are relatively new to fishing out for a day of bed fishing. It can be really fun to see how they react. I would hate to be a non boater in a bed fishing tourney. Sorry to hear that happened to you. The guy in the front should have not been such an ***. If you are just fun fishing then a day or two of bed fishing can be a blast.

That is a real big pickerel. I think the state record is 8 lbs in NH. Perhaps time to get a scale.

Been seeing largemouth and smallmouth on beds in Maine and Vermont the last couple times I have been out. The spawn is on. Got a bunch of nice smallies on beds yesterday. Fished 3 hours. Caught 7 smallies over 3 lbs biggest being 4 lbs 1 oz. It is always fun to see them react to your lure. Bed fishing isn't exactly my favorite though. Still was a blast.

Last Saturday Shane J and I went out fishing for the day. We got out on the water at about 515 am. The wind was calm and the morning bite was pretty good. We were getting some consistent action on a jig with a rage craw. Towards the end the day the black flies got pretty bad... and so did the fishing. From about 10 am on we struggled to put fish in the boat. We saw a few smallies on beds but wanted to concentrate on Largemouth. It was a tough bite to get. After the initial morning bite we had to work to get one or two bites an hour. By the end of the day we had put 17 bass in the boat. A 6 lb 3 oz largemouth was lunker. Caught on a jig.

8+ Pounder In Small Lakes?
Small ponds produce huge bass all over the country. I don't fish farms ponds or smaller ponds under 50 acres or so. I like the added changing of finding and catching big bass in bigger bodies of water.

South Coast Of Maine
You have a lot of options. If you don't want to go too far Arrowhead, Square, and Balch Ponds all have good bass fishing. If you wanted to get a bit more adventurous and drive further western Maine and the Belgrade Lakes offer some of the best fishing on the east coast in my opinion. I would tend to stay away from the bigger waters with your kayak. All the local rivers, ponds and lakes have bass. I am sure that some of the harder to reach places that are only accessible by kayak have some pretty big bass.

Big fish are shallow. Now is the time to catch some of the biggest bass where you are fishing. Fish a jig.

Anyone Have Any Luck In Southern Nh Yet? (4/6/12)
I was lucky enough to have yesterday off so naturally I went fishing. This coming weekend I have to work. So decided to take my mom out fishing with me as way to make up for not being able to see her for mothers day. We got a late start to the day. It was very warm in the 70s and maybe even the low 80s. It was mostly sunny with a southwest wind 5- 10 with gusts to 15 mph. The water temperature in the shallows was surprisingly warm, at one point I saw 60 degrees. The plan was to fish flooded trees. After we launched it took over an hour to get to our first spot. It sure was worth the long haul. Second cast resulted in a 4-8 largemouth on my jig. Over the next two or three hours the fishing was unbelievable. Both my mom and I were catching some very large bass. She was catching them using a rubber worm and I was using a jig. It ended up being one of the best days I have had weight wise. We were not able to stay the rest of the day. My mom can only fish for about 4 or 5 hours at a time. Regardless it was an absolutely amazing day. The 5 biggest bass weighed in at 29 lbs 15 oz. the fish bass limit was made up of a 6-9, 5-10, 5-7, a 4-8 with a 7-13 lunker. I lost another big fish I would guess to be atleast 6 lbs. We ended up catching 23 bass between the two of us. It was am amazing day. Big bass are biting. 7-13 6-9

Bass Fishing For Beginners, Tips, Tricks, Gear,*secrets*,etc....
Be the first to launch and the last leave. Time on the water is vital. I can not remember exactly which pro said it but when asked what was the best way to become a better bass fisherman his reply was go early and stay late.

Early Spring Fishing In New England
This past weekend I was finally able to get out fishing. I fished a few hours Saturday afternoon and most of the day Sunday. It was very windy all weekend. Saturday it was a sustained 15 mph wind out of the Northwest with gusts over 30. Sunday was just as gusty. Most of the day Sunday was 5 - 15 mph out of the northwest. Pretty difficult to handle with a 10 ft boat and trolling motor and fish while dealing with that wind.. The water was still pretty cold to at 46 degrees. It was mostly cloudy each day. I fished an assortment of baits, chatterbaits, jigs, spinnerbaits, senkos, tubes, silver buddies, and a couple suspending jerkbaits. I caught 5 bass in about 3 hours on Saturday all on a jig. Biggest two were 3-9 and a 4-2 both largemouth. Sunday was better fishing. Landed 12 bass, 7 of which were smallies. Biggest 5 fish on Sunday weighed in at 23 lbs 5 oz anchored by 6-6 and 6-12 largemouth as well as a 4-1 smallmouth. 6 lb 12 oz 4 lb 1 oz 6 lbs 6 oz

Anyone Have Any Luck In Southern Nh Yet? (4/6/12)
This past sunday I went to one of my favorite lakes. The wind again was pretty strong out of the northwest 5-15 mph with gusts over 20. It was a bit warmer then Saturday with a forecast daytime high 52. It was mostly cloudy. I launched at around 11 oclock. The water temperature was a chilly 44 degrees. There was a couple early soring spots I had in mind but they were an hour long ride with my trolling motor. IN the past both of these spots had been great to me so I decided to fish those to spots almost exclusively for the day. After an hour long ride I arrived at my spot and anchored. The water was very high. I had an assortment of lures tied on, a crankbait, jig, silver buddy, a chatterbait and a suspending jerkbait. I had been fishing for about 10 minutes when I had my first bite on a jig. It was very very subtle. I could tell it was a bigger fish and it was strong. Once I got it to the boat the net was just out of reach. I decided to lip it and first fish of the day in the boat was a short fat 6 lb 6 oz largemouth. I was pretty excited to get that first fish in the boat and the fact that it was a lunker had me pumped for the rest of the day. On the next cast I got another hit with my jig and it was nice smallie weighing in at 4 lbs 1 oz. Over the next hour and a half I boated another 3 fish including a 3 lb 0 oz smallie on a jig. The other to fish were both smallies around 2 lbs or so that hit a silver buddy. With 5 bass in the boat I decided to go to my next spot which of course was about an hour away. This spot was not protected form the wind at all and the wind was blowing hard. There were rollers coming every few minutes. I was anchored to make fishing possible. With the strong wind and waves there were waves landing IN my boat. It was worth it though. My first cast at this spot got slammed. Once I got it netted I realized it was a bit bigger then I had thought. It was a long skinny fish. It weighed in at 6 lbs 12 oz. Didn't get the best picture but I think I did decent with huge waves, wind and taking it myself. A couple casts later I landed a 3lb 2 oz largemouth. I fished this spot for an hour or so and caught 3 more fish but non bigger than 3 lbs. I decided to go back to the first spot I fished. After another long troll I was back at the spot and anchored. I fished for an hour with not a single bite. I went and fished one more spot before calling it a day. I landed two more smallies about 2 1/4 lbs. By the time I left the water temperature had reached 46 degrees. For the amount I fished the fishing was pretty good. Landed 12 bass for the day, 7 smallmouth and 5 largemouth. Biggest five fish weighed in at 23 lbs 5 oz.

It is illegal to transport game fish in New Hampshire and in most states for the matter. It is also illegal to release a fish into any water body other than the body of water which it was caught from. If NH Fish and Game witnessed any unauthorized stocking there would be a hefty fine and possible loss of license. Not to mention the effects that an introduced game fish has on a ponds ecosystem. I went fishing yesterday and the fishing was pretty good. Once I get the pics from my camera I will post more about yesterday.

Anyone Have Any Luck In Southern Nh Yet? (4/6/12)
This afternoon I snuck away for 3 hours of fishing. It was a balmy 43 degrees when I arrived at the launch at 4 pm. The wind was blowing out of the northwest sustained at 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph according to noaa. It was gusting frequently and the constant 15 mph wind made fishing a challenge. I had just got a new fish finder and was determined to check it out and catch some bass while doing so. It was very cold out. My hands were not the warmest as I was casting my baitcasters. The water temperature was 46 degrees. The new trolling motor and fish finder worked well. It was a challenge to fish with the wind as brutal as it was. I am glad that I had a 55 lb thrust trolling motor, I am not sure I could have dealt with the wind and waves other wise. My first couple of spots were in the wind and almost impossible to fish with out anchoring. After a couple of minutes attempting to fish in the gusting wind I decided to make a big move to the northwest corner of the pond. With the wind gusting out of the north west the northwest corner of the pond was the most protected from the wind. I was able to almost effectively fish my jig. It was a constant battle with the wind but it was worth it. In 3 hours I had 6 bites landing 5 largemouth. All of the bass were caught on jigs. The fish were decent in size. The biggest two bass were 4 lbs 2 oz and 3 lbs 9 oz. Other then the jig I attempted to fish a chatterbait, spinnerbait, a crankbait and tube.
