  1. Spinning reels and soft plastics and jigs are perfect for skipping. I really don't know how to explain how to do it. Just generate a lot of speed on the cast and keep it low to the water. Just like skipping a rock. I do this on a baitcaster on occasion, but I suck at it
  2. Pics of the prototype can be found in the tacklemaking thread, prototype revealed. Here's the deal. Here are the names I liked best from the other thread. Y'all post up your votes and in about a week or so, the winner gets two of these prototype lures to use, review, and abuse. Post up some votes and lets see who gets to name thing thing. Good luck contestants!
  3. United States Army, Infantryman 1st Cav, Ft. Hood Texas I've been to Iraq twice. 27months fighting over there in two of the worst areas. Sadr City in 04-05 and Diyala Province in 06-07. I've been through nearly 1300 morter strikes, 100+ firefights (mounted and dismounted combined), and between 50-100 IED strikes. I've served as a dismounted rifleman, machine gunner, and spotter. I've also drove the M2ODS and M2A3 Bradleys and served as a gunner on the A3's. In my 5 years of service, I've been to NTC in california, JRTC in Louisiana, countless training missions on Ft. Hood, and a dozen other places that aren't hitting my mind right now. My job is to take my rifle, machine gun, bradley, and explosives and use them to make sure these jerks don't poison our lakes. ;D Well, that's one reason. The main reason is that I fight so that our kids have a shot at a better life than we had. So yeah, I like my job because I am extremely proud of what I do. I'm getting out of it in August though. That'll be 6 years. 2+ in Iraq, at least 1 full year in training, and countless 24 hour days. This job isn't for a family man. I'm going to be signing up in Louisiana as a police officer or as a game warden and work nights while I go through school. I"ll also be serving in the national guard, just in case my nation needs my boots again. When school is done, I'll be an operator in a plant, making about 80-110,000 a year. That's when Brian gets his Skeeter
  4. I just googled this about 2 dozen different ways. I can't come up with nothing. I'm horrid at search engines though. It's a wonder I ever stumbled across this site. If nothing else is posted in here when I get back from fishing, I'll try again. I might just call the courthouse when I get home. I'm off all day today and tomorrow, so I don't have much else to do ;D What are you trying to sell?
  5. pwnt is derived from pwned pwned came from owned...a typo that was really, really funny pwnt=owned. basically, it means that one person just kicked another's @$$ I used to play a lot of MMORPGs and I actually know the people that really took l337 (leet...the pwnt kinda stuff) to a new level
  6. Need to know what something is? Ask here. What is tofu?
  7. It was pretty crappy yesterday....BUT I'M GOING FISHING TODAY!!! Temps in the 60's and no wind. God I love the south
  8. Congrats and what a handsome baby! Fatherhood ROCKS!!! It's the only thing I like more than fishing. My 9month old son watched Hank Parker with me yesterday morning. Bassresource.com members are raising future Classic Winners!!! ;D
  9. I guess I'd donate my stuff to CAST for kids if my son didn't want it. He better want it or I'm going to haunt him.
  10. What is the best way to punch out eyes when powder coating jigheads? A thumb tack sucks. Thanks for any tips
  11. You youngsters just pay attention. Us old guys know about goodies that will make you throw rocks at pudding. Note to self: Looks like you can bribe them with pudding. (It's all just too easy) Ronnie Actually, throwing rocks at pudding is kind of funny. I'd do it again ;D
  12. I'm with LBH. If I'm taking you fishing, you better be there early. Because I will watch the second hand on my watch. I took my colonel fishing and told him that. He was at the lake 35minutes early...when I showed up lol. I can't have eyes on jigs. I don't know why, but I have popped out every eye on every jig for years now. I can't stand not having eyes on my spinnerbaits. If need-be, I'll draw them on I have to have at least 2 rods. I don't enjoy fishing as much unless I have at least 2 rods. I'm fishing out of a canoe now...with 2 rods. I have to catch 5 fish. If I don't limit out, I'm bummed out. My goal on the water is to catch a limit, no matter what. If I see a duck, I feel compelled to hit it with no less than a 3/8oz jig
  13. I thought it would be interesting to start a thread explaining confidence lures and techniques on small lakes or ponds. This mainly applies to those of us who are locked onto the banks or use small craft (canoes, kayaks, tubes, electric jon's, etc) to patrol these little havens, but everyone is welcome to chime in. So I'll share my favorite first. 5" * * (applies to any spidergrub, I just favor the size of the * over other brands) I fish this setup on regular baitcasting gear. Mh 7ft rod, baitcaster 10 bearing reel, and spiderwire invisibraid (10lb diameter) Usually I use this rig first on any of the 10 or so small lakes in my area. I favor shades of watermelon or green pumpkin on sunny days and blue/black on cloudy days. I rig it with the hook exposed on a round jighead in the less snaggy lakes, but I'll throw it on a pegged t-rig and 3/0 owner EWG hook in a heartbeat if I need to. 1/4 is my go-to size, but I'll adjust based on the conditions. The technique I use is simple. I try everything with it. I'll start out combing a bankline from my canoe or targeting breaks from the bank by swimming the * a few inches off of the bottem. If that fails to draw a strike, I continue to move around the lake but I'll gradually pick up speed. I've caught fish everywhere in the water column swimming grubs, and it can change from day to day, week to week. If the swimming fails, I'll start the cast, fall, hop method that is applied to fishing texas rigs or jigs. I'll cast it out near cover, let it fall on semi-slack line, and then hop it back. The thing that I like about the * in particular is that it is fatter and a bit longer than most other spider grubs. The skirted part works as a parachute in the water, really slowing that 1/4 oz jighead down. I usually don't have to go lighter than that. With it's weight combined with the weight of the jighead, I'm actually fishing a lure that's closer to 3/8 or maybe even 1/2oz in weight. This helps me get out there from the bank and control my flips and casts from the canoe. Targeting structure and cover with this lure is deadly on both small lakes as well as large impoundments. If you find submerged timber, rocks, grasslines, docks, bridges, or just about anything else, the 1/4oz * is worth trying. Share your favorite techniques!
  14. Very nice. All the people from tacklemaking should band together and make a BassResource line of baits
  15. Mook Spook, Hood Rat...this is great rofl. I'm gonna open up a poll next monday with the 5 best names from up here. Keep em coming. Winner is gonna get a pair on me
  16. I've been fishing them just like a texas rig. Just hopping them around on the bottem. So far, I like spider grub, beaver, and worm trailers (all from ***)
  17. Y'all are a lot better at this naming stuff than I am. It's gonna be cool when I make a poll out of it lol. Keep the names coming. This is gettin good. I really appreciate the support and replies. Thanks guys. As far as if I'm going to sell them, I will. I don't have a white color yet. I guess I should probably get one. I'll fill out an order later today for skirts. I think 1.50 is what I'm going to sell them for (plus shipping) The jigs I made are only 2.99. I'm trying to follow in Brent's footsteps ;D
  18. Brian's Bait, now that's catchy lol. I am surprised over the replies thus far. I was expecting a "you got us all worked up over a hairy bullet weight?" I'm pretty stoked that people like it thusfar.
  19. Long Mike, this sentence has proper grammer just for you. ;D I try my best to keep sentences and posts readable. Sometimes I skip out on what I know to be correct when it is just a one line post. But most of the time I try to keep it somewhat above a 5th grade level. ;D
  20. Prototype revealed already. Check it out in the tacklemaking section. I got pics Hope y'all aren't disappointed lol Let me know what y'all think
  21. Ok. So here it is. I am not sure if this has ever been done before. If it has, I'm not aware of it. The idea came to me when my buddy and I were kicking around ideas on making a 100% weedless jig. While this is not actually a jig, it's not exactly a flordia rig either. So unless this already has a name, I'm calling it the Louisiana Rig. Every other state gets one...I want my home state to have a bait too So yeah, basically it's a flordia rig weight (bullet weight with bait holders on it) with a skirt on it. So far it's tested successfully in a total of 6 lakes. Let me know what y'all think. I'm going to make more colors later on down the road and I'm going to build one with a rattle collar later on this week and try it out. That's the X3 Here is where the fun comes in. If you have a name for the lure itself, post it up on here. The top 5 names will go to a poll on the forum where the members can vote on their favorite name. Winner of the contest will get a few free ones on me and I'll eat the shipping cost. Sound good? Alright, go ahead and critique it. If this already exists, let me know before I get sued for copyright infringement lol
  22. Actually, it's an idea I got when senkos were busting topwater on sammys and the crankbaits were feeding really heavily on jigs. What a day ;D
  23. One of three things will happen when I post up the pictures. 1. You will be like omg, I want one. And you'll contact me and we'll work something out. 2. You will be like omg, I can't belive I didn't think of that. And You'll just make your own 3. You will be like omg, I can't belive he wasted my time with that. then you join the naming contest and name it the "I can't believe you thought this was a good idea you piece of #$%^ dolt". I guess we'll find out sometime this week ;D
  24. Russ doesn't answer his phone. ;D And I think I gave my old number over his answering machine. I'll try again later lol My biggest concern is that once I release this lure, anyone can make it. I guess I'll market it out around here, but I'm going to take some pictures and just post it up on here. I doubt with my pay, that I'll be able to take anyone, let alone a company, to court over it. So, oh well. Expect pics sometime this week. Hope y'all enjoy. Oh yeah, prototype has moved into phase 3, the final phase. I'm going to make a few and have a naming contest. Best name gets a freebie. ;D What forum would that go in?
  25. Weights are 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 PM sent, Cory. Oh yeah, the next batch of these bullet jigs will feature an EWG 4/0 Mustad hook. I'll post some better pics of the next batch, which should be this weekend sometime. I'm also going to make some footballs. I haven't even used that mold yet
