  1. Yeah, I've fished small craft for years. I had big ambitions about getting a bass boat after I had gotten home from Iraq, but things didn't work out. Paid off my trucks instead. That was probably the smarter move financially, but a stupid move fishing wise lol. I'm really excited about it. I'm going to get a trolling motor in a couple of weeks if I can figure out how to mount one. I'll probably just build something of my own because the mounts I've looked at are expensive. I think a couple pieces of 1x4 and some plywood will do the trick. If the wind dies down and if I can find my little digital camera, I'll take some pics and post them up here or in another thread somewhere else. Right now its REALLY windy and it's supposed to continue throughout the week. It better die down. I wanna go fishing. If it doesn't, looks like I'll be walking the banks. Nothing's gonna stop me. ;D
  2. Yeah, I'm buying my dad's bass boat off of him this summer if everything goes right. That will get me on big water. Right now, I have access to about a dozen really nice ponds/small lakes on Ft. Hood, so I thought a canoe would be perfect. I could mount a trolling motor on it if I see the need, but I'm going to give a paddle and oars a shot first. I just kind of want to do it the old way for some reason lol. I'm pretty stoked about getting it though. Right before spawn
  3. It's a 15ft canoe rofl. Best I can do until I can buy my dad's bass boat lol ;D
  4. alright guys, I appreciate it. I'll give these options a go. Anything is better than paying 650 bucks for it ;D That would have came out of my "save for a boat foundation"
  5. Does anyone know where I can get a free download for photoshop? Thanks!!
  6. We went out in sector a lot without a SAW at all. It's weight, the weight of the ammo, and inconsistancy of operation made it more of a burden than an asset. When they work properly, they rock. Just finding those few that won't jam every 5th round is tough to do. The 240 can actually be manned by one guy, but must be transported by two. Usually we don't take it on patrols unless we plan on making a hasty D, LPOP, COP, or SKT somewhere. It's weight just makes it impractical for clearing operations or presence patrols, which is our bread and butter over there now. The M4 can deliver a nice suppressive fire if volley fired and controlled. A squad of riflemen with M203 grenade launchers provides tons of suppressive fire. But even with all of that, you're right that it does not transfer energy well at all. It's too fast and too light and lacks the knockdown that would be really, really nice. I would LOVE a semi automatic 7.62mm assault rifle with the advanced rail system, and a short barrel. Accuracy out to 600-700 yards with knockdown power. Kinda like this....http://www.springfield-armory.com/armory.php?model=18 And sorry about the hijack GMAN. To get it back on topic, is that a surefire light?? ;D
  7. I wish the army would switch to a 7.62mm assault rifle, but the chances of that happening aren't at all that much. Being in the Infantry, I've had the ability and time to shoot Trijicon ACOG's, EOTech's, and virtually every scope known to man. We are encouraged to put our own optics on our weapons. I've shot civilian red dot scopes as well as the military, and yes, they all suck. The reason is that any red dot style scope features at least a 40mm viewing tube. That little red dot in that big ole tube makes paralax a problem for shooting any distances, even short range known distances(not close combat). EOTech's have the same problem, but since their lens is much smaller and the reticule is large, paralax is less of a problem. ACOG's do not have a problem with paralax at all, since it is a fixed sight and not a projected image. As far as the M4 and it's distance shooting...there isn't very often at all when shots over 300m are required in combat on the basic level. Most of it is acros fields, down streets, or house to house. The size of the weapon (M4) is about perfect to meet these demands. Three and four hundred meter shots are very easy and the rifle is really accurate out to those ranges. It is actually accurate out to about 800meters, short barrel and all, but it lacks knockdown power. The reason why the 5.56mm bullet is preferred by the US military isn't because of cost, it's because of it's speed and level trajectory and accuracy at range. It takes a 7.62mm much longer to travel the same distance as a 5.56mm. This increases our odds of at least wounding our opponent and gives us a better first strike capability. Besides, it takes more resources to treat a wounded man than to leave a dead man. The 5.56 is a much more deadly round than people give it credit for. The SAW fires the same bullet as the M16/M4, just at a much faster rate of fire. The SAW is viewed by us in the military as a piece of junk while most of us cherish our M4 and M16 rifles. I've only had an M4 or M16A4 fail on me when I failed to perform proper maintenance. They are much better than you're giving them credit for (when properly cared for). Sure, better stuff is available, but our stuff ain't that bad. And a side note, our arms room doesn't have any broken or malfunctioning weapons. We turned them in long ago. All working stuff now.
  8. If you're looking for a new upper reciever, check out the ones for H&K. I forget the model number, but I shot one while in Iraq. It's a very, very noticable difference. While I'm thinking about it...want a stock market tip? The Army may be switching all Infantry M4's to the H&K upper reciever in 2010. I already bought shares, just in case they actually do. As far as scopes on an M4. Red dot scopes suck. They are cheap and are bad about letting you down when you really need them. (Please argue this point with me if you want story time ;D) ACOGs are better than EOTechs because of the no battery issue and EOTechs have no magnification. EOTechs also have issues with paralax after about 200 yards. ACOGs with an iron sight or modified with reflex sights are you're best bet. Or better yet, use an EOTech for a pistol, mount it to the top of your ACOG, and you're set. Believe it of not, this rig will drill close range targets EXTREMELY fast, faster than any red dot scope. Get out to longer ranges, and the ACOG takes over. I like how you look the front sight post off and opted for the flip ups. Nice. Only one question...where do you mount your bayonette? ;D
  9. i just ordered a metric ton of stuff from barlows and fishingskirts.com. Forgot to buy collars though. I'm taking it as a sign to hand tie my jigs, but I dunno. I like the round rubber with one exception...there is no green. Lime doesn't count. Just a regular green would be nice. If they had that, that would probably be all I used.
  10. Burley, if I decide to get elected president of the United States in 10 years, I'm making a spot in the white house for the official Clique Commander. Congrats on your future new position, LBH ;D ;D ;D
  11. We can't talk about politics but we can post urinating pics. I should start a "your favorite peeing pic" thread in Everything Else rofl ;D ;D ;D
  12. Just my take on triton...I rode one a few weeks ago in rough water. Might as well have been on a submarine. That thing plowed through and speared waves about as gracefully as a rock. If my dad doesn't give me his old boat, I'm probably going to be going with an xpress. I have a fondness for their boats, even though they are aluminum. Oh, about engine size. If you're going to be fishing ABA, FLW, or BASS tournaments, be sure that a 300 isn't too big. All the ones I've seen have a 250hp cap.
  13. this picture is life sized ;D

I didn't know you were doing stuff like that. When I get my molds and lead in, I'll send you some jigs. I know we already talked about what I was going to send you, but I'll throw in some extra stuff. Good deal man.
  15. It's just something that is in my family. It's what we do. I've done it all from trot lining for catfish, tournament bass and red fishing, and deep sea fishing. For tournaments, I love the rush. I like to be able to go out there and test my skills against other people, the lake, the fish, and myself. I love the pressure that figuring out the puzzle gives me. I fish for fun and relaxation as a way to get away from the grind of everyday life. Something about watching that popper pop, that buzz bait buzz...it just releases stress. I also fish for food. Nothing like blackened redfish, baked speckled trout, or fried catfish and hushpuppies. I don't eat bass though. I want all those babies to grow up and break records for me.
  16. Interesting title huh? I had to rant somewhere. My buddy said that he would store my stuff while we were in Iraq. He came home early because of some injuries and now 5 rods and reels and all of my cranks, spinnerbaits, topwaters, soft plastics, hooks, sinkers, and even line is either worn out, lost, or used up. So now all I have left is my little plano box with brush hogs, 2 jigs, 1 crankbait, 1 popper, 1 frog, and a pack of *** (hula grubs), 1 pack of hooks, and 1 pack of 1/4 oz lead bullet weights. 1 baitcasting rod and reel is all that is left because I had it at my mother-in-law's. Other than that, gone... So I guess before I can start fishing again, I'm going to have to get my tackle back up to normal. If y'all come across any sales on lures or terminal tackle, shoot me a PM if you don't mind. I've got half a mind to replace all of my torn up reels with Ardent reels and start going custom with all of my rods. It'll cost a metric ton of pocket change, but I think that is my best bet. Hopefully I'll have a decent stash of tackle by spring.
  17. I'm glad I'm not'n da lan of al jazeera, where da woman r too ugly to look'n da mirror, la la la la la... http://www.unobserver.com/articleimages/IOL%20Iraqi%20Woman%20Elder.jpg
  18. Halo 3. CoD4 was awesome, but I beat it way to quick and the replay value just isn't that great to me. Halo 3 on the otherhand...wow
  19. Basically, a fishing sponsorship is like any other. They advertise and/or sell for you and in turn, you offer them free or discounted product or help with tournament entry fees. Perhaps a bonus if your product is used to win a tournament or if your logo ends up in a picture in a major newspaper/magazine...things like that. I don't think that there is a set guideline as to what you have to offer and what you expect. I think that keeping it personalized between the company and the angler is the best way to develop a beneficial relationship for both parties. What products are you offering?
  20. That hurts....Texan.... :'(
  21. Cajun here too. My dad is from an English/French mix and my Mom is from Irish/French. Dad's dad brought the English name to our otherwise, very swampy family.
  22. You wouldn't believe it, but in my first tour we had a 'weapons buy back program.' Come sell your 70 year old flint lock muzzle loader for three times the price of an AK. "we know you'll use the money for good..." three weeks after that program and Sadr City was chaos. THe IED's had gotten big enough to kill tanks and brads and RPGs had gone from anti personnel to anti-tank. Morters upped in size and it seemed like every window had a guy with a brand new Kalishnakov in it. So yeah...an Iraqi garage sale with American buyers.
  23. I thought Avid was a Whoopie Goldberg kinda guy... ;D
