  1. Bill Dance strikes me as as a good salesman. He seems to have a natural nice disposition. That and his fishing is the reason he is one if the very few who have really gotten rich off of sports fishing. Buying fame and fortune in the bass fishing sport is very fleeting. As far as him catching fish on private lakes etc just remember he is catching fish. Not everyone can do that even on private lakes. I am very certain he has very good grounding in general fishing in general. The best fisherman I know all have that.
  2. I think I seen one if the TV fisherman demonstrating something of that nature last week. It's not really anything new people been twitching there sinking lures for years. But I imagine since he caught fish on it. They will be all over the place by years end. .
  3. Well AGOSS your right in my old neighborhood. I bet your a Viking as well. I used to fish out there in the evening when I lived in Saddle Brook Estates off Ofallon rd. in spite of the crowd you can catch nice bass there with a Lot of determination. My son still goes over there sometimes in the evening after work. I now live on LOZ.
  4. joe I really liked your write up. I have been fishing jigs for over 60 yrs over 90% of my fishing is with either a jig or a plastic worm. Only difference between you and me is I throw lighter jigs in the spring when the fish are running on the channel banks. All the way down to 3/16 on 10 lb mono. I use mono on everything because I can detect line wear real easy. Here on Lake of the Ozark's that is a something you need to do a lot because you fish over dock hardware such as steel cables and beam a awful lot.
  5. I forgot to mention. You can find the taper of any rod by just turning the blank upside down putting the ip on the floor then raising the rod and pressing it against the tip. It is a good idea to do that when buying a ugly stik. They are ll about the same anyway. One trouble with ugly stik is they are sometimes stiffer than the rating.
  6. I got stuff that does. I have over 200 Net Bait 11-12 inch brownish color worm and 100 more 10 1/2 inch Berkeley motor oil power worms. They will last me through the year. But if I see some of them I might try them. But at this point I will be going down to PBS in Springfield in about a week. I will look. The thing about the tail is I like ribbon tail type is all. The reason I doubt they can last so long is because of repeated hook ups and re set. That is a lot of tearing up the plastic.
  7. What one is it. I have 8 or 9 but they just tell you on the rod ultra lite lite, med etc. Really that's all you need. I have been using Ugly Stik since the first year they were made. Best and most durable rod ever made. And do not cost a leg and a arm. I know on here they do it have much support. They say they are heavy and you cannot feel with them. I do not really buy either explanation. I am 74 today and I fish with them only. Also if you were able to feel every last thing on the bottom I am not sure it would do you all that much more good. Interpreting what is going on at the end of your line is something you learn with experience.
  8. I looked the Z man up and I will not be using any of them. I do not like the shape of the tail on those worms. The prices is also way out of line as far as I am concerned. I would like to see and smell one though. Some time ago there was a worm on the market had a decided petroleum smell to it and it was next to useless. The worms I use are 90% 10-12 inches long except the trick type. I still have my doubts they would stand up. Last spring this time I and my neighbor had a couple of evenings that were something special. In two 3 hr outings we caught 36 bass between 17-19 inches Except one that was 20 inches. I would like to see a worm stand up to that. We caught them on trick worms and used about 11/2 bags of 20.
  9. What you better do first is make sure you can do all this in your state. You might also run into trouble about taking and keeping a lot of bass. Remember catch and release us a big thing in this sport. I practice it. I only kept 6 crappie last year 2 catfish and no bass. I am right here on the lake and I do catch a awful lot of bass and more than my share of those over 4 lbs. I think it is my duty to preserve that. If you want to use fish to feed people you should do like they do some places in the Ozarks. They catch clean carp and grind the meat up with pickle relish and other spice and make sausage out if it. It s really good eating. It sure would help in control. Besides that carp can be a real thrill to catch. DEER!!!! Around here deer are First class pest. And a danger in more ways than one. They destroy everything. My wife has personally has hit three times by deer. Notice I said BY DEER. Not by her not watching. A lot of times you pass them then they decide to run and get across the road in front of you. Last week I counted 14 in one small spot feeding by the road. We have a big problem with them. I have a large ornamental garden that contains about 100 varieties if Hosta plants. All summer long there is total war between me and the deer. I can control them but it requires gallon and gallons of spray, game camera,410 pump shotgun and loss of sleep. Then there are the summer people who think they are cute to see and ride around in golf carts all evening looking at the deer and fawns. If I see a fawn I tend to stay away from it. A enraged doe is a very nasty thing that can stomp you tramp you and beat you to a pulp in a minute without no prior warning.
  10. I have never heard of this ZMan worm. I am going to look it up. I spend a good deal on worms and worm gear every year. I have never in my life heard of a worm that would last 30 fish. I buy between 200-300 new large worms a year in only two types and all in just one or two colors and sizes. Other than trick and stick type worms. Those I buy separate. Color, size and make don't mean much in these although I do like to have some bright pink ones in the mix. Mostly I just look for cheaper ones. If I don't like them I trash them. I am a worm and jig fisherman.always have been. Aulways will be. That is where I feel the most comfort and have the most expertise.
  11. SILAS Water here was only 47 and the fishing for everything is very very slow. Yeah I know about boat problems around here we got 40 ft cigarettes going 80 mph. I do not know his insurance situation but a lot of these people that own these big very expensive boat on carry insurance from April to October. He is a dentist so he can afford it.
  12. This is a tuff time of the year to make predictions of anything. Your water temp is low but that that is not the all of the conditions. Length of day is part of the trigger. They may into other areas in preparation for the spawn in spite of the water temperature. They do that here at times. Then they may become tight lipped. Anything can happen. You got to just fish hard. I like jigs in cold water. In the darker colors. I like them to move slowly. They do not seem to have to be large either. I fished a little yesterday with a 3/16th oz jig using a little finesse worm as a trailer. Did not do me any good though. But at my age I do not go at it as hard as I should. My easy chair is only 30 ft from Lake of the Ozark's and I am retired. I can wait for a better day.
  13. Has nothing to do with fishing but Prune Juice
  14. I think it would be about impossible unless he has made some drastic alterations to it. The popper has treble hooks and will rise straight up into the line and become tangled. I just wonder if he is a old bird and is confusing(it is normal for us old birds) drop shoting with trolling a popper and putting a small jig on a line about 18 inches in back of it. Around here the trollers do something a bit similar with a Jitterbug. They put 1/16 and 1/8 crappie jigs on about 2 ft of line tied to the rear hook of a Jitterbug and troll it. Believe me it can really slays the crappie and white bassinet the evenings when they are rising to feed. On the other hand it sounds like a bare faced lie. I have never seen a pink Hula Popper. I do not think they are made. I just wonder if he made the pink claim just to make it seem more outrageous. I do not think he realizes that some pink plastic type lures can have their times and place as fish bass catchers.
  15. I have took time to watch dying shad. Some float up some drop. In either case the action is a lot more like the old plastic slugo lure than something you get from a Rogue. I think the thing that makes the rogue effective is the treble hook. Bass will come up in cold water and very slowly nip. That is when they get hung on a very sharp treble hook. With the plastics like slugo there is a single hook and they will nip the tail and drop it. In the old days we did all kinds of stuff to make our baits suspend.the stick on lead strips were are a real blessing for suspending baits. I know a national champion that even today prefers jerk baits that he balances himself. Water temperature and the line your using can effect these things also.
  16. I find nothing wrong with the bass pro trick worms and the big thick Feneki type (however it is spelled) thing. I use both like stick bait and also on drop shot. The giant Fineke worms were my best drop shot bait last year. I like the zoom product as well. I am not to happy with the durability of a lot of Berkeley plastic products. My favorite is the Net Bait Company.
  17. Actually the stuff contains shark oil. That is what he told me. I don't know.
  18. SirSnookalot-- Your comment brought to mind the way I taught my son to fight a fish. He was about 5or 6 also and I took him to a carp hole I had salted with about 10 lbs of corn in a cage.. I gave him a crappie outfit with 6 lb test line and a small hook on the end baited with corn. Needless to say he lost a lot of fish. But after a few sessions he mastered it. He caught some awful big carp and buffalo on that little rod. And today many years later he never has a moment of panic. BigMoneyGrip---I never looked at it that way. I have not seen that guy in a long time. Makes me wonder if he got to much of that stuff on himself While smearing it on the lures. and shriveled up and disappeared.
  19. Oh boy. I know people who have tried it. We had one guy here used to smear Preparation H on his lures because it too contains fish oil. The thing is there is nothing miraculous out there. In the end it is 99% you. I am going to be 74 yrs old in a few days and have been fishing before some if you were born. I have seen many many changes over the years. I really think now days all this talk about special rod ,reel, this that and the other thing is far more marketing than the value of the stuff is to fishing. I learned to cast with a 51/2 ft steel rod. Only instructions I got were" keep backing off the anti backlash until you no longer need one". It's getting harder but I still do it even today I do not have a reel with any backlash control. I believe fishing can be a lot simpler and less costly than what I have seen here. I know a couple people who could put a hook on your false teeth if you had any and catch a fish bass on it. And it might not take them to long either.
  20. Hmmmm I have fished and still do on many many days when the wind was coming from the NW and the fishing is great. In the winer and early spring it is a prime place to catch bass. Often only a foot or so deep. The reason is the banks are protected by high hills and bluffs. Water can warm up a good deal in these small spots even on cloudy days. My main concern with wind is getting out of it in most cases. Now the moon that is something I believe in and has been by science.
  21. I x2 If only I knew. I have my doubts about a lot of the stuff you Umayyad hear about weather. But I can tell you one thing if your paying close attention to weather patterns etc your going to hamper your fishing success. There is only one condition that I really believe is productive MOST OF THE TIME and that is a day with low wind and a slow steady warm rain around spawn time. Gosh do I love those.
  22. Here you go. Bryant's Osage Tackle at. WWW.osagetackle.com Just in case they do not answer quickly (573) 4374-9001 Let me know how it turns out.
  23. Of course there are alternatives and they will all catch fish. Fishing unweighted lures is a system of fishing. It has been around forever. I started pitching unweighted Creme plastic worms into pockets and eddies on Ozark's streams at least 50 yrs ago.
  24. BOATLESSBRIAN Sounds like your grandpa is a west sider like I am. Just be careful out there in a canoe. And if you want a guide I still say your best bet would be to call Ozark's Outfitters in Laurie. The reason I recommend they is because I know how deep their root are in the locale fishing community.
  25. OVERWELMED well you really hit the nail on the head. I have only been on here a short while and I fish nearly everyday. I can guarantee you bass fishing has not changed. The only real thing is the marketing and price.
