the overhead cast is best used for distance casting, typically when you want precision casting a roll cast, or pitch is much better suited for these duties. to complete a successful overhand cast your launch angle and release point have to be correct, usually it will overrun when you cast at a downward angle, but if you cast with and out and up approach you will have much more success with the overhand cast... not saying you cannot cast down with this approach it just takes more time to learn how to, and honestly i dont see a good time or place for an overhand precision downward angled cast... It reduces friction and overall weight, but they do not like some solvents as Francho mentioned. I have not noticed them wearing out any faster than a SS bearing, but then again I have never wore out a bearing on any of my reels... Mitch

I have the 7'6" MH casting rod, and I use it for c-rigs and frogs in medium cover, and it is a nice rod. I paid 100 for it, and i would compare it to a fenwick hmx ( which is a nice little rod ) I also have the GSX elite and they are quite a large step up in my opinion... Mitch

if I had to pick only one it would be the t-rig for its versatility, but i wouldn't limit myself to just one or the other... Mitch

it depends what you want to use it for... casting deep cranks I like the Quantum energy, smoke, or kinetic. or the Lews BB1. pitch and short accurate casting, I like the Tatula regular or the R. or the T-3B. For heavy cover heavy line applications I like the Lews Superduty. for an all around reel the Chronarch E is a pretty good choice... Mitch

90-100 seems to be a good range for me. 100 is the longest i have used so maybe longer works well too within reason... Mitch

Got to hold one of these the other day at cabelas... It is so hard to tell with a reel like this because they always feel kinda cheap ( all carbon composite ). But at the 150 price point it does have a lot of features that typically are not found anywhere less than about 200-250. it is well under 6 oz ( like 5.5 or something ) it has carbon fiber handles with good knobs, and i think each knob has 2 bearings. the triangle line guide looks interesting kind of a hybrid of traditional and the new daiwa t-wing system. the spool is pretty darn light, it looks like they did everything they could to reduce the weight on this thing. my biggest hesitation is the mag break system instead of a centrifugal, especially since it is not the daiwa mag system... Will there be a difference??? Yes. will you be able to tell the difference??? um, maybe... it depends on how long of a leader, and how heavy the jig or lure is, as well as how well your hands are at relaying vibrations to your brain. only one way to find out for sure though... Mitch

I would go with an all Tatula set up, for 200 you can get stuff that retails for 300 and with that extra 100 dollars you can get some tackle, or fill up the gas tank a few times... Mitch

They look nice, I love the big handles and the weight, but not so enthusiastic about the graphite frame... I guess to me they would probably be fine for all things outside of heavy cover situations and or swimbaits... I really enjoy the original W&M victory reels I have 10 of them and all of them have performed great for me... I know some people have had trouble with this company, but I have a good amount of their rods and reels and have never had any issues with any of them... the rods are on their 3rd season and many of the reels are too... LOL... if one bed fish gets taken and other fish come in and eat the eggs, then the spawn has been effected. statistically suppose its like a 1:50000 eggs laid become a 3+ lb bass, so every 50000 eggs that get eaten and or fish that doesnt spawn beacue of human intervention durring the spawn reduces the adult population by 1. Now these are just rough approximations, but the concept is still there. to think that you can target fish on a bed and have ZERO impact on the health of that fish and or the eggs it was protecting is just a huge logical fallacy... its kind of like thinking that we as humans cannot alter our climate though our actions... Wishing that we dont make a difference does not make it true... Here is a fact, durring the spawn fishing pressure on many of the top lakes in the country get very heavy... This activity is an economic stimulous for many of the comunities around these lakes and rivers... The government also makes a whole bunch of money off of sales of various products and liscenses... Its all about the money and has very little to do with the health and wellbeing of the fish in these lakes and rivers... Mitch

I would be willing to give them a try, A-Mart is one heck of a fisherman, if he puts his name on it, I would expect a pretty decent stick... I hope they are good enough to challenge some of the rods in the 200-250 range causing those companies to be more competetive... Mitch

Frogging is one of my favorite techniques, but there is a time and a place when they are best used. I have found a few frogs that I really like(KVD, and pad crasher), and I use them pretty much exclusively. I have 3 dedicated frog setups two for hollow bodies(7'6" H/F) and one for toads(7'MH/F) all on 7:1 reels. OP you seem to really enjoy frog fishing, however there are a whole bunch of other techniques out there that produce much better than frogs on many days ( jigs, t-rigs, crankbaits, dropshot, etc...) I would suggest taking some time to learn these techniques as well as you do frogs, it may increase your success rate... Mitch
