Private Ponds/lakes Cheating?
I fish a private gravel pit close to my area its not managed though. I don't find it to be easier fishing. It's still just as challenging if not more than some of the public lakes that I fish. Will admit average size is bigger, but that's about the only difference. Don't consider it cheating at all just get out and do what you love. Don't worry about the heat you catch from jealous friends.

First Day Out On The Water This Year
I'll try and answer your questions the best that I can, but I'm definitely not an expert. Guessing at water temp just from the air temp you gave I'm guessing 40-60 degrees. Given those conditions I'd be fishing two baits. One being jig with a pork craw trailer orchatter bait of some kind if the water is really murky both worked very slow. Second would be a husky jerk with long pauses between jerks. Soft plastics will be better once the water reaches the mid 50's Hope this helps some. Tight lines and God bless.
