Garmin's got the clearest scanning sonar on the market, and their units are far and away the easiest to use. I also wouldnt scale the cost of electronics based on what you paid for your boat. I'd rather fish against the guy with $50,000 of boat who cant find em, versus the guy with the $5,000 aluminum and the best electronics. This'd be your best intro to quality mapping/side/down https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/on-the-water/fishfindergpscombos/echomap-chirp-73sv/prod529885.html

If camping is the primary, the Norfork/Bull Shoals area has some great land around it. We like to camp at Pettit Campground and float the North Fork of the White, which feeds into Norfork Lake. Really good brown trout to be had on that stretch too. But if fishing is the primary I'd go to the Rock.

@Ondrejka and I left it all out there Saturday. I'm sure most of you already heard via B's facebookz. Good numbers and size, especially for Wolf. Glad we audibled and avoided the clusterf*** that surely was Melvern that day. Here's 2 of my 4 that kept, biggest just under 20". The gal with the pretty tattoos jettisoned 5 feet out of the water twice before joining us in the boat.

My little paddle tail put the biggest fish in the boat that day with doc throwing a bull shad in front, like Clayton said both have their place. Being able to locate them is more important. Size of fish > size of bait.

Every now and then, but I'm not much for the ned life because very few times it seems to draw the big bites that a swimbait will in clear water. 100% agree, best to be ready with both!

Lake of the Ozarks - Early Spring
All depends on the weather. There's a lot of things that can work for you depending on weather and water clarity, it's just being prepared for it all in the spring and knowing how to adapt to changing conditions. I caught my avatar 3.25# spot after 8 inches of cold, windy rain in march. The next day it was bluebird glass and they wanted something completely different. Jerkbait and alabama rig will be the deal until the water starts warming. Once they start moving up your options start to open up. Ball and chain was responsible for a $60k fish last Spring. Spinnerbait with a chunk may be good this year considering 7mm is still cold chocolate milk as of last weekend, but it may clear up by then. In spring you never know until the day before, this aint California!

Bank fishing at Lake of the Ozarks
I bank fish alot when I'm down at LOZ but only because we've got property in the family and I know all my neighbors. You'll be hard pressed to find any stretch of bank that isn't privately owned. Try and at least put in with a kayak or jon boat. It may limit what you can throw, but at least you'll be able to drag a jig or crank a wart wherever you please.
