  1. This post wasn't made against the carolina rig from not having money, but to finesse lethargic bass to bite without spooking them using a heavy weight.
  2. should you use a swivel or anything for the line twist?
  3. yea I've seen this video. hadn't thought about that. thanks guys.oh what size "mojo" weight should I use when fishing medium to heavy cover on the bottom?
  4. Is there a such thing as a Finesse Carolina Rig? What I mean is using a smaller weight such as a 3/8, 1/4, or even a 3/16 weight. Using the same baits that you would normally use on a carolina rig but just lightening the rig up a little by not spooking the fish. Give me some advice on this, or if this is even possible.
  5. Going with you on this one. Splash less in the shallows, doesn't matter in the deep water. Usually bass will go up to find out what hit the water when their deep. and usually hit it on the drop too.
  6. caught a crappie on a weightless super fluke while dead sticking it. haha. never caught a crappie before. it scared the hell out of me how hard it fought vs a bass. haha
  7. Palomar and uni have both failed me on several occasions on a traditional Crig. Don't know what to do...
  8. I have had a lot of problems when tying knots to swivels. Lately I've been carolina rigging a lot using 30lb braided line with a 15lb fluorocarbon leader. I've lost 3 rigs on 3 different knots tying the braided line to the swivel. What the hell is going on?! 1/2ounce & 3/4ounce weights are not cheap, and I'm tired of losing rigs when tossing it out there. Strong, Fast, and Reliable Braided Knots to swivels. (HELP)
  9. Mono is my problem. When fishing heavy cover on the bottom, mono stretches way too much. That's why I keep losing fish.
  10. That's the thing though, bass head to shallow water for the winter for the warmth. They go to deeper water in the summer for cooler water.
  11. Went to Gander Mtn. a local outdoor sporting goods store here in NC earlier. Bought my self a nice $200 spinning rod and reel combo and refused the one year warranty and went on my way to a lake near home to try it out. Pitched a senko under a tree, got caught on a small branch in the water, went to jerk and snap my line.... snapped my pole in half. Craziest thing to this day. Just fantastic.
  12. Decided to try this set up. Gonna try it out tomorrow. 30lb / 8lb dia. Braid , 15lb fluorocarbon leader. Thanks for the advice guys. Truly hope this works against all the line stretch and break offs. Tired of losing fish due to stretched mono.
  13. Carolina rig! 1/2 - 3/4 ounce weight, 2 glass beads, 2' leader, and a bait of choice. And of course dipped in some chartreuse jj's. works every time. Guarantee you. Go deep man! It's getting hot.
  14. When Carolina rigging in med/heavy cover what type of line should I use? Whether it be mono, braid, or flouro. Braided main with flouro leader? Plain flouro? Had pretty bad experiences with mono since I've started Carolina rigging. Seems to stretch way too much. Have a lot of break offs too. Just to give you guys an idea of what gear I'm using I've listed it below. Help me figure out what I should use, or what I should change up. Abu Garcia Black Max Med/Heavy 7' Rod Abu Garcia Black Max 6:4.1 LowPro Reel SpiderWire 10lb Ultracast Mono
  15. Just found out that this pond/lake was dug out about 20 yrs ago. Used to be a white sand pit for DOT crews. Then someone claimed the land after DOT was done with it and finished digging it out. Stocked it with tons of crappie, brim, bass, and catfish. No way it's lamprey. Gotta figure something else out I guess.
  16. Okay I made a post the other day on spawn and post spawn battle scars on bass. I caught a 4lb bass the other day and it had what two spots on its left gill that appeared to be where some kind of creature was sucking its blood or something. A few guys replied to my post saying that it had to be lamprey, but lamprey eels are only native to the great lakes and surrounding areas? What are the chances that a 250'x1000' pond/lake be possibly infested with lamprey? I live in fayetteville, NC where this pond is located. About 13 hours away from the great lakes. There are no streams or rivers attached to this, and I'm an hour and a half to two hours away from the ocean.
  17. what is lamprey? some type of fish?

  19. I know spawn has been over at this lake for about a month so it couldn't be fighting off brim or crappie, so it has to be leeches or something. Just never seen anything like it.
  20. Caught a 4 pound female yesterday and she put up a hell of a fight. When I finally got her out of the water she had two circular wounds on the left side of her gill? The wounds were purplish red. Almost looks like a leech was there or something. Any ideas?
  21. I suppose I should've mentioned that I live in NC so I have to fish in medium to heavy moss and weeds. So spinnerbaits and crankbaits are likely not to be a good option. Is a texas rig and topwater my only options?
  22. When bank fishing what lures and baits should I take? Sometimes I feel like I just don't have what I the bass want or what I need to be using.
  23. Never said anything about color. I said that those are the best topwater days. Anyone catches more fish on a cloudy, low pressure day.
  24. First it needs to be at least partly cloudy or complete overcast. Second throw a topwater toad and just reel it in fast. Third if the bubbles behind the toad stay and don't pop right away, Start throwing topwater because it's going to be a great day for topwater. Doesn't matter the temperature of water or the time of day. As long as the barometer is low, your going to have a great day fishing.
  25. Best starter rod&reel combo for under a $100? Abu Garcia Black Max Combo. Either a Medum Action 6'6" or Medium Heavy Action 7'. Looking at less than $90. Wal-mart or Gander Mtn. Pair it up with 10-12lb mono and you've got yourself a good starter set-up. Better than you'd think.
