  1. send a message to mekoenck@purefishing.com. His name is sonny and he will hook you up
  2. nothing comes close to siebert outdoors.
  3. Very good point, leave it to me to not consider putting in upstream of both spots hahahaha I understand the versitility of a kayak and honestly wish I had one myself to fish the shallow coves of the river that my boat cant get to. To the OP, do what best fits your needs and budget. Its a liberating feeling that first time you set off and realize youre not glued to the bank anymore
  4. I have a 12' mod v (semi v) it has a v shaped bow and transitions to flat about 2 feet back from the bow. Its stable, light, and handles much better than a flat. Especially when the wind starts blowing and the chop rises up
  5. but can you travel miles up river to fish a spot and then rin 5 miles the other way to fish another great spot?
  6. I would consider a jon boat. Either flat bottom or mod v. I understand the appeal of kayaks being easy to transport and all but with my 12' I can load and unload with the trailer all by myself. Not a problem at all. I would never trade mine for a kayak honestly. BUT, that being said, I fish in a river 95% of the time where a kayak is less useful to me. I need to be able to get miles back upstream on a larger river and could never do that with a yak. There are trade offs with both, but me I would get a boat. I have under $1000 into mine and its fantastic. That includes boat, motor, trolling motor, trailer, battery ect.
  7. take it back and the store should replace it
  8. Years ago my father and I had been fishing for about 4 hours on a small electric only lake and had not caught one single fish. Finally we gave up and headed for the dock. Half way there, a 3.5 pound bass jumps directly into our boat. Only fish we caught that day, the problem was no one could agree on who "caught" the fish
  9. I have a 1956 Johnson seahorse 5.5hp. Nearly every part is still available either through napa or vintageoutboards.com and are super easy and cheap to fix/maintain as long as you can do the work yourself. I run a pressurized tank but soon plan to upgrade to a single line with a mikuni fuel pump. The thing with the pressure tank, THEY MUST BE IN 100% WORKING ORDER or you run the risk of a fire. But rebuild kits are available and cheap for the tanks as well.
  10. I have a 12ft semi v with a 5.5 hp johnson and a 35# trolling motor. The reason I would take a jon over a kayak, I can launch my boat and run 10 miles up or down stream (in the river) and fish alot more areas than I could paddle to. Kayaks are great, but I can go alot more places with my boat
  11. You should be the one keeping the fish hooked up, not the barb. Youre letting the fish control the game, giving him to much slack line
  12. I really like the SK KVD 1.5 in either chat/black or sexy shad. They are fantastic baits. But, for the price I throw a ton of bomber square a's. My walmart always has them in stock at 3 bucks a pop. I probably have 50 bombers
  13. As a beginer I personally feel that centrifigual brakes are much easier to learn on. Set them and forget about them, then just adjust spool tension per lure and it makes the transition very easy. I love my revo s, I bought it as a budget reel after I sold some of my "better" reels due to needing the money for family. Its honestly a fantastic reel, the first run of the gen3's had a few issues with not engaging after the cast but they seem to have worked out the kinks. Casts great, is very smooth, and is one of the better options in the price range in my opinion
  14. I would kick him for even suggesting that lol people spend hours looking for the cover (those dead trees you are trying to avoid) on a lake. Embrace it, thats where the fish are
  15. are your hooks sharp?
  16. I have pq's and a revo s. The pq's are great for the price, but the revo s is simply more refined in my opinion. I dont use the mag brakes on the pq's personally and just stick to the cent. brakes (set and forget) If it was me, I would get another revo s. They are smoother and just better fit and finish IMO. BUT, they have their drawbacks. One being they only come in a 6.4:1 gear ratio while the pq comes in every ratio you could ever want. On a side note, I like my revo s more than I did my sx and stx
  17. Another shimano fan boy, dont get me wrong shimano makes a great reel but so does Abu Garcia and plenty of others. I have owned plenty of revos including the stx, sx and my actual favorite of the bunch the revo s (cheapest revo they make but I LOVE mine) and have had no issues in "taming" my reels. I have owned a few shimano as well including the chronarch e series, an older greenie bantam, and a g series curado (did not like this one at all) and they are great too.
  18. I would reconsider decking a 12' semi v. Stability will be a big issue especially once you consider the weight of adding frame, deck, live well, gear etc. They are great to fish out of (I just got a 12' smokercraft semi v as well) but they just arent meant to be a bass boat. Enjoy it for what it is and fish the crap out of it. Mine is a 12' extra wide and I still wouldnt want to stand on a raised platform in it. I just sit on a seat and I do just fine with it. Now I do plan to add a raised deck between the two main benches, not to stand on, but to use as tackle and gear storage
  19. Thanks RW, learn something new every day
  20. a jig with a bobber? I have never heard of such a thing
  21. veritas....performs better than double its price. But they are stiffer than their given rating I feel
  22. Same here, I wish I never sold mine. Heck it was beat to crap and It was still fantastic.
  23. the left one is def a rapala dt series, possibly a dt-fat
  24. wrap in tin foil with a bit of butter, italian dressing, and lemmon and once in a while a bit of soy sauce and throw it right into the fire
