  1. I have a Motorguide Tour series (digital) with cable steering. Is there some way to adjust the steering tension? Right now I almost have to stand up to operate it. As far as I can tell the only adjustment is under the foot pedal where the cables go in. Am I missing something or is that the right area to be looking in? This is a brand new motor, just installed. Also, how deep should the prop be in the water? Thanks to all for any tips.
  2. tried WD-40 and MEK, the MEK defently did the trick, along with a heat gun (on low heat) and a putty knife.. Thanks for all the great ideas. 8-)
  3. I just went through a learning experience with my 882 Nitro and a 5-hp kicker. As far as the boat goes, there is no way to attach a kicker. The way the transom is made there is nothing but fiberglass where the kicker could be mounted. Now for the motor, with the smaller hp, the gas/oil has its own tank on the motor. Wont get you there fast, but it will get you there. Just sit in the rear fishing seat and operate with the tiller arm. There is also with some models where the engine mount slides into a plate that allows it to easily be removed. some examples are at http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/categoryg/10001/-1/10001/784/625/6/man/asc/0/grid ) Hope you have better luck than I did with my boat.
  4. These decals have a heavy metal flake to them. The top clear plastic layer peals off easily, but then there is a gooey metal flake mess left behind. I have used the 3-M pads before, but I think they will clog up before even taking off one decal.
  5. I am trying to remove the old registration numbers from my new to me, nitro. So far I have tried a heat gun and scraper, then acetone to get off the left over heavy stuff. But I am worried about doing damage to the gel-coat. It seems to work, but it is slow. Is there a better way?? :-/
  6. Thanks for the great ideas, "jb_from_texas" you have gone above and beond, ever thought about a job in graphic arts? Still haven't decided on a name yet but its probaly between "Hooks and Ladders" or "Hot Spot", so far. Thanks for the ideas!!
  7. The post "curious, does anyone name their boats anymore?" has put the idea in my head to name my boat, and two heads are better than one. As you might guess from my username I am a professional firefighter, and would like to use a name that relates to fire or such. Something like "Hot Spot" or "Fire Bug". The boat is an 18' Nitro. Thanks for any ideas..
  8. I replaced mine with a thin gauge stainless steel diamond plate, and riveted it in place, should outlast the rubber, although now there is something else to shine.
  9. I am looking into installing a 4-HP auxiliary motor to my 2001 Nitro. The auxiliary motor is my solution to my Canada trips where I can not charge my TM batteries. I want to pick everyone's brain on the best way to mount the small motor. Currently I am looking at a GARELICK STAINLESS STEEL OUTBOARD MOTOR BRACKET (TO 8 HP) 71037 with the Garelick Adapter Plate 71053 (to allow removal of motor when back home) My Transom is on an angle and almost forms a point, which might make installation difficult. Also the motor has no tilt feature, so I need a mount that will raise out of water. Thanks for any tips.
  10. :-?My Nitro is need of new upholstery on the driver, passenger and center seat. Anyone have someone they trust in the Ohio Valley area? Or any good tips on what my options might be for replacing? I think the padding is in good shape, only problem is the covering is cracked and split.
  11. I save around $15 on my insurance through Alstate. But, as stated the knowledge is worth more than the savings. I have been around boats all my life (the Ohio river) and picked up a some good tips.
  12. I'm driving a 2005 DuraMax - it defiantly has all the power you will need for pulling, remember though the fuel price for diesel is the same or more than premium gas (2.38-2.47 around my part of the country). I also tow 4 ton horse trailer, when fully loaded, which is the real reason for the D-max. I have no complaints except for the high cost of fuel, but then don't we all. Just be sure to weigh the cost of the equipment over cost of fuel. If you are looking to go diesel just for the fuel mileage, I don't know if it is worth it. 8-) GOOD LUCK
  13. My variable speed MotorGuide has only 1 speed. Any ideas on how to ckeck the rotary switch, or could this be a bigger problem?
  14. Going to Canada for fishing trip, the problem is that at the camp there is no A/C to charge TM batteries. Looking for some ideas. There is a genaerator but we are trying to keep its run time to a minimum. Boat is a Nitro NX 882 -18'- With 135 Tracker. Thanks for any ideas.
