  1. Seaguar Invizx 12lb is my FAVORITE line by far. NEVER had a bad experience with it (IE: never broke off on a fish). Only knot I use is a palomar knot. There is a youtube video that does "knot tests" and so far the palomar is the strongest knot. I believe.
  2. I was wanting to buy one, but I'm holding out for the new tour MG now!
  3. 7'11" Medium action rod with the lightest test you feel comfortable with. Drop the bait down maybe 25-30i nches before casting it to help load it up.
  4. Get a job, work hard, and you can buy all the stickers you want! I bet if you REALLY wanted, you could take the cushions off your couch and find enough change to buy 5 stickers! HELLO! Geez....
  5. I make duck call lanyards out of 550, so when my motor rope snapped, I braided up one with 550 that matches my boat. It's super solid. Used cobra knots. That might be the case for you, but mine snapped in the middle, where it doesn't touch anything.
  6. I've never even thrown a 1/8 shakey head! So tiny! I use a 7'2 MH xfast taper cumara for all my shakey head applications. Has all success. Also makes a great soft plastic rod and a perfect jigging rod.
  7. Just take call basspro and speak to someone in the boat sales department... they'll guide you to what to do. Don't let anyone touch it until you talk to someone.
  8. Aren't you the one who recently sold your truck and boat!? Congrats on the purchase!
  9. Just putting this out there - if your budget is MINIMUM $200 then you can buy the best rod available. Customizing a rod would be a solid idea since you can find pretty much any blank and customize it with the best guides -plus- you can make it look good. If you don't want to customize one then buy the most expensive m/h g.loomis. Or just spend $250 on a m/h cumara. Use a cumara exclusively for shaky heads because I can feel EVERYTHING. Favorite rod I've ever used.
  10. I know nothing about the reel. As for the rod - yes, good deal. Will be a solid rod to use for frogging or jigging. Rig up a reel with 30lb braid test and you're good to go
  11. NELA checking in. Just started fishing it 2 weeks ago since moon lake launch and forsythe are about 10 minutes away. IT IS A TOUGH FISH! First time I went out I fished a nice drop off with a DD22 in tennessee shad(?) and got on them pretty well. Caught 4, all were around 1 pound and VERY light in color. Bite slowed and picked another one off with a firetiger color spinner riding the bottom. Like Mr.Bassin said, it's very hit or miss. Either there on or DEAD off. Went out on Friday morning to try and catch an early bite. Drove into various cuts and backwaters and fished the openings where they connect to the river and have water moving pretty well. Bait fish were around. Got some bites on dark color buzzbaits, white frogs, and firetiger spinners. Ended up getting aggravated around 9:30 and changed it up to cat fishing. There is some GREAT catfishing to be found in the river man. We casted lines out and MAYBE 5 minutes in got the first bite. Just to give you an idea of how odd the bite can be - all the bass bites on friday were short and we couldn't get anything in the boat. We threw out catfishing rigs into 20 feet of water and started catching bass on those rigs using coldworms. They were HAMMERING the worms! What other information are you looking for?
  12. Well it appears oil is leaking from the lower unit somewhere. We can pinpoint it because the leak happens under the waterline, and the only part in the water is the lowerunit. From everything I've gathered over the years on outboards, if it you LU is leaking oil, take it to a mechanic. Wish I could be more help, but your description of the problem is vague and not easily diagnosable if you aren't standing in front of the motor.
  13. Just ordered some the other day. Excited to give them a shot.... I literally haven't heard anything negative about them. THAT is promising!
  14. Oh. My mistake. You can go ahead and do whatever you want to pal. No need to be a jerk.
  15. Everything I've looked into about mixing wood with aluminum suggests untreated lumber.
  16. Well if you have a completely flat bottom boat, it might be okay. If it's got a v to it at all, its going to hit the frame when you load it.
  17. You've just answered my life long question that I've been too afraid to ask, and too forgetful to google. I will never forget this day, RoachDad.
  18. Any soft bait I use a 2/0 up to a 7/0 offset hook... might be an offset worm or and offset extra wide gap. The offset of the hook eye lets the bait sit better on the hook when texas rigged and hide the hook eye inside the bait.
  19. This is called a "popping cork" and I use those suckers RELIGIOUSLY when saltwater fishing! Redfish and trout LOVE them.
  20. Live worms for bass fishing?! I imagine just a 2/0 worm hook? Lots of hooks use the #/0 system and some use just a #. When referring to a 3/0 hook, people will usually say "three ott hook." A good way to see all the differences is to go to a sporting goods store and just LOOK at all the different stuff! I've never used live bait to catch bass. There is a TON of different artificial baits you can use on bass, which is how a lot of people end up spending tons of money on fishing. When I started fishing, it was recommended I learn using http://zoombait.com/trickflukes/flukes/super-fluke/ Was told to use a 4/0 size offset worm hook. Tie the hook to the line using a palomar knot. Put the fluke onto the hook "texas rigged." Cast it. Let it sink to the bottom. Twitch the rod 2 or 3 times. Let bait sink again. Twitch rod 2-3 times. Repeat until you retrieve the bait. So there is your homework newbie! Watch youtube videos from "bassresource" on how to fish a fluke. Learn how to tie a palomar knot. Learn how to attach a bait "texas rigged." Hopefully some of that helped.
  21. Red = "permanent" Blue = "temporary" Try teflon tape or a couple drops of blue. If that doesn't work, use red.
  22. 7' plus MH is a great "all around rod." When you get into the realm of heavy power rods, you're looking at broomstick type rods that are only good for a minimal number of applications. I can use a MH for jigs, t-rig, cranks, spinners, c-rig, shaky head, frogs, swims.... everything. I'd only feel comfortable using a heavy for c-rig, jigging, and frogs. Having fished out a kayak or Jon boat for sometime, I'll say that space can get tight sometimes and the max # of rods you'll want to be carrying is 3. Casting from a yak with a 7'2" was never a problem. I could see problems arising if you were using, say, a 7'11" because it would be cumbersome to mess around with on the boat - IE: tying, or just laying it down when not in use. Summary: 7' - 7'3" MH fast or Xfast taper is a solid move for a lot of techniques. Only look to a heavy for technique specifics.
  23. X2 on everything already said. I usually go for filler line about halfway then the good stuff the other half. Works just fine.
  24. Cumara warranty - Lifetime replacement. From what I gathered (reading the warranty request form) it covers all breaks and malfunctions EXCEPT user error - EX: Hitting rod tip on fan blade, closing in car door, stepping on it. All you pay for is shipping to Shimano in California. From what I've read on another forum, just so long as the break looks "natural" they will ship a replacement to you ASAP, free of charge (you will be out $the $20 it costs to ship to them though). Another thing to note - Shimano SAYS they won't warranty a rod purchased from any store without a physical store location - IE: Ebay sellers. So basically, for $20 they replace it. Hope that helps!
  25. I don't buy into the g. loomis talk quite yet. I've used a few of the gl2's and a gl3 (i think it was) and didn't really LOVE it. I was looking for a jigging rod some months ago and was pointed to the Cumara. I didn't really think Shimano would have an AWESOME rod for sale... I figured it was going to be some regular ole' rod with a high price tag. Read a bunch of reviews and decided I'd drop the $250 on one. a 7'2 MH x-fst tip. Let me say - IT IS LIGHT. IT IS SENSITIVE. It is exactly what I wanted. I paired it with a new gen RevoSTX and can fish it all day with 1/2oz jigs....no problem. My buddy uses some old school loomis broomstick rods for jigging and we traded for a minute.... he started laughing when he held mine saying "dang thats so light." Feel everything even the slightest tap. I can't speak on Dobyns line cause I've never touched one. I just wanted to drop in to point out the cumara fits the bill for exactly what you're looking for.
