  1. I posted a write up of a few I found at Academy when they first came out. I'm glad to see that they're getting into more stores. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/148804-found-some-really-cool-new-yum-baits-today-at-academy/
  2. This. I got my Supreme MGX 30 for $60 at Gamder Mountain on Black Friday, and I LOVE it. All of the Pfueger Spinning reels are great. The Trion is a really good real, but in my opinion id go with the President over it. For your price range though, Id definetley recommend one of the Suoreme series.
  3. Hate when that happens! We snag them all the time fishing deep shell beds. I can only imagine what it does to a hook point!
  4. H2O Xpress Mettle all the way. That way it's cheap so you're not out much if she doesn't like it, but it's a quality reel and will last if she does.
  5. Well I decided that 2015 was going to be the year I learn how to fish swimbaits, so I found a good deal on some Strike Kings and bought 4 Sexy Swimmers, 4 King Shads, and one Baby King Shad.
  6. Those things are CRAZY! Really cool concept. I'm really wanting to try some out.
  7. Since he said hooks/heads I assume he's talking about something like a Cane Thumper or Swimming Caffeine Shad. To the OP, I really like Big Bite Baits Cane Thumpers and R.I. Skinny Dippers (except I buy knockoffs from a local store called Soddy Custom Tackle). For a hollow body I like the Basstrix. The other category would be things like the Keitech Swing Impact, which I also really like. I usually buy keel weighted hooks from Soddy Custom also because they're cheaper, but I also like the Owner Twistlock. I use these in vegetation or heavy cover. I don't worry about heads too much. I just look for a good hook, and then head style. I like a standard swimbait head shape or a football head. Then just match the weight to your depth and retrieve speed. A jig head gets better hook ups, but is completely useless in anymore of cover (unless it has a weedgaurd).
  8. Nothing wrong with that. I nearly bought a regular Tatula the other day. It was just the way it was put made it sound like You were saying that it was a lesser quality reel than the Daiwa.
  9. I absolutely LOVE my Veritas 2.0. I haven't used the Ghost, but I'm kind of avoiding them due to the guides on them.

Also, saying that they're the best hook because KVD uses them is like saying Hane's makes the best underwear because Michael Jordan wears them...

Mustads are all right. Not all that IMO (except for the triple grips, but then again I think I'm buying into hype more so than performance). I mean I'll buy them if their real cheap, but heck I think even VMC's are a better hook. I stick to Gammy's, Owner's, and VMC's before I buy Mustad's. IMO they're about the same as Lazer Sharp's.
  12. No, it still has "Super" in the name. Like he said its the same thing as a regular super fluke, but instead of being 5" it's 4". Still has the belly slit and everything else that makes a Super Fluke a Super Fluke. You're thinking of the 3" Tiny Fluke, which is just a smaller version of The Fluke. To the OP, just use a smaller version of what ever hook you use on a standard size Super Fluke.
  13. I've always been curious if the Berkley Gulp Floating Corn comes back out the same way it went in like regular corn...
  14. Yall are all asking why don't you buy a Daiwa, well this is a Daiwa, but made exclusively for Cabelas. The arachnid has Daiwa written across the side, and even the knobs have the Daiwa logo on them. To the OP, I'd really look into it. Compare it to a standard Tatula and a Type R, and see which model meets your needs the best. I'm sure they're all great reels.
  15. I can't afford more than one pair of rain gear to use all year, so I chose a thinner Columbia model. It's almost like a frogg togg, except it's made of a MUCH better material that doesn't leak like a Frogg Togg. The whole set was about $100 at Bass Pro but well worth it. It's thin enough to fish comfortably with in the warmer months, but I can still layer whenever it's cold. I'm happy with it anyway.
  16. Guys were talking about their old heavy models that looked like 3rd grade pencil sharpeners right and not their new Apex series, right?
  17. Yeah I meant spool tension earlier, and I probably should have been more clear about loosing distance. I know you're a Daiwa guy, and I LOVE the Magforce 3D and the Magforce Z (from the little I've gotten to play with, just got my first reel with it two days ago) braking systems. I actually don't have a problem picking one of those up after using a reel with centrifugal brakes. I loose distance and backlash when using Lew's, BPS, Pure Fishing, etc. magnetics. I don't know why the problems I have occur though. I also find that magnetic brakes never really allow for a truly free spool thus reducing distance on the cast. I don't know though... maybe it's just me.
  18. I personally prefer centrifugal brakes. I like to fish with my reels really loose and with a low break setting so I can get the maximum distance. I usually turn on two pins and forget about them. I feel like that's perfect for preventing backlashes at the beginning of the cast (when centrifugal brakes excel and most backlashes occur). I tend to avoid magnetic brakes for the most part EXCEPT for Daiwa's magnetic systems. I seem to loose a lot of distance with them and I backlash a lot more with them. I also hate the way that the dial's sit on the side plate with externally adjustable reels (excluding the small knobs on Daiwa reels). It's all personal preference though. I know a few guys who feel the exact opposite about brake systems. No matter what the best braking system is an educated thumb!
  19. Awesome! I was pretty sure it was a good deal as soon as I picked it up! I have it on a 7' MH Ethos right now, and it's obvious that it's a little "overweight". Would a heavier rod balance out with it better or will I just have to get used to it?
  20. Not as nice as a lot of y'all's buys but I've gotten: •First Gen. Abu Garcia Orra SX 7.1:1 - On clearance for $60 •First Gen. Abu Garcia Orra SX 6.4:1 - Won in a bet. I had to get up and sing "Long Haired Country Boy" along with the entertainer at El Meson in front of the whole restraunt. •X2 H2O Xpress Ethos for $30 •X2 H2O Xpress Mettles for $20 •Pflueger Supereme MGX30 for $60 •Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 the second week they came out for $80 •Daiwa T3B for $110 and yesterday I bought an older silver model Daiwa Exceler 7.1:1 on clearance for $40.
  21. Well yesterday while at Academy I made a pretty good find. I got the older silver model Daiwa Exceler in the 7.1:1 ratio for $40 marked down from $90. It feels pretty solid for the price, and its even smoother than my T3B. It's a little loud but I figured some lubing would fix that. It's REALLY heavy though. Like over 9 ounces heavy. I like the reel, but I haven't heard much about them, so I was wondering if anyone had any experience with it, and if so was it good or bad?
  22. Hahahahaha!!! It sure was! It was one of those really cheap plastics that come in the little spincast combos. The worm is so stiff that I'm surprised it even caught a fish!
  23. Still have the first worm I caught a fish on…
  24. Gotta keep buying tackle so that it doesn't rip your face off…
  25. The Storm Rockin' Shad also "rocks" on the fall. Both are GREAT baits though.
