  1. Any of you guys want a $50 Bass Pro gift certificate for $40? I have a specific purchase in mind, and the brand is not carried by BP so the gift card I was given is of no use. Great gift, but sadly Tackle Warehouse is getting my next chunk of money.
  2. I went down to Raymond's to pick some up, but I didn't realize that the Razorshad was a new product and had not shipped yet. I like the durability of their plastics. I picked up some other experiments and grabbed two of your chatterbaits for throwing me a solid lead. Appreciate it.

This year my most productive bait by far has been a chatterbait with a swimbait for a trailer. I have been using a specific swimbait for the trailer (Lake Fork Live Magic Boot Tail Shad) , but I am looking for some other options. If anyone uses this combo effectively often, I would love to hear any swimbaits you would recommend. Thanks.
  4. In other news.... I caught a walleye this morning on a chatterswim in the timber on Kill Creek in maybe 5 foot of water.
  5. I have not. I will check it out before purchasing. That being said, after spending more time with them in a tackle store, the feedback of some of the posters, and the fact that I started out originally wanting Dobyns; that is the winner between the current two brands. I like all of the choices with Dobyns (including full cork handles),the Dobyns rods were better balanced in my hand, and I prefer their aesthetics. Hopefully they have the sensitivity everyone claims. I am planning on starting with 3 rods. One M/H for single hook baits, plastics and jigs mostly. One M rod for treble hook baits, square-bills, jerk baits, and topwater for the most part. One ML for Ned Rigs and other finesse applications. I figure that lets me get a feel for their line-up before I buy more. Now, I just have to narrow down the possibilities.
  6. I have narrowed myself down to these two rod lines for my upcoming purchases. Meaning I will be buying several. I, as of yet, can not seem to make a decision between the two. I have put my hands on both series in a local tackle shop, but I was unable to make a 1-1 comparison on the rods, as one was jig rod and the other was not. I have looked at the warranties, the aesthetics, specs, price, etc.... Does anyone have any "real world" experience fishing both rods? If so, I would love to hear any insights you may have. Thanks.
  7. Lol.... I am the one selling the reels....
  8. Would anyone be able to point me to someone capable of Identifying and Appraising a few old prop baits?
  9. The best and most manly way to do this: Go to a salmon hole. Wait for a bear to knock one out on the bank or trap one in it's mouth. Then wrestle that sum'***** to the ground and kill him with your bare hands. Eat the salmon while standing on his corpse to flaunt your superiority over the other bears. After your meal, you tear the arms off the dead bear and walk around the river with them to display your right to bear arms.
  10. Great post! I love to see someone doing some videos with a GoPro on local waters. A GoPro is second only to a bass boat on my list of desired toys!
  11. Any of you guys ever fish Browning Oxbow up in Elwood, KS? I have a couple of buddies up in St. Joe that want to learn to fish, so I am heading up there this weekend to teach them a few things. Is it a decent shore lake? I see on the state site what is in it, but I am wondering what the populations of bass, catfish, and blue gill actually look like. or Belcher Branch.
  12. What is your favorite top water lure? (who makes it, price, where you bought, color?) Heddon Zara Spook, $5-$7 usually, I have purchased them from a number of places as you can find them almost anywhere, I prefer clear far and away, it is almost all I fish in spooks, then again I live/grown up in area of the country where the vast majority of large fishing waters are VERY clear. Under what circumstances will you throw any type of top water lure? If I see surface activity (schooling black bass, white bass, stripers, or hybrids), dawn & dusk, post spawn What do you throw when there's vegetation underneath the surface? regardless of vegetation I throw what looks like the food source, spooks and poppers for shad and frogs for... well frogs What do you throw when there is duckweed or lily's on top? Frogs- Liveaction is what I use, they are the smallest and most realistic to what we have in my area. IMO Are there any top water lures you've tried that you do NOT suggest? No. I am not a big believer in things not working. I have seen fish hit some ridiculous lures. I know of lures that are common confidence baits that I have never caught a fish on, such as a buzz bait. Fish the applicable colors and actions of the food sources and you should be set.
  13. Glenn did a video on this on the bass resource youtube page.
  14. I have only posted a few times, but I am always watching. That sounds kind of creepy... Anyway, I am a bank fisherman for now and this year has been much tougher in small lakes and ponds than last year. I have caught 99% of my fish this year on Texas, weightless texas, or ned rigs. This past weekend was the first weekend of the year that I had a lot of success with hardbaits. In this case square bills and lipless. Did you guys in boats see an increase in chasing fish on moving baits this weekend?
  15. In my opinion the key to any new bait you are struggling with is to limit yourself to fishing it until you start catching fish on it. When doing this you have two options: 1)If you are the kind of person who has the will power to take your entire tackle box but not throw anything but soft plastics, then do so. 2) You are like me, and I don't trust myself not to change. I would take only terminal tackle and soft plastics. I even do this when I just want to get better with a particular technique/lure. Last year I spent several weeks fishing almost every day with jigs. Starting this weekend I a going to do the same thing with Senkos and Flukes. Use them until I develop confidence. The past several weeks I have done this with another type of bait, but it is a secret used primarily in Missouri and Kansas. ;-)

I fish shore and have some luck with chatterbaits even though I just recently started fishing them. I tend to run the over laydowns, or through the eddies created by aerators in small lakes and ponds. WHen a fish has hit them they have absolutely crushed them. I fish it the same way I do spinnerbaits, but as someone posted earlier, they are not as a snag free as a spinner bait so some caution must be used.
  17. Went to Bass Pro and they offered to match the Walmart sale price.
  18. Hey all! New guy here. Just wanted to say hi! Been fishing Shawnee-Mission Lake for weeks now from shore, with mixed results. Last 4 days have been rough, but fishing was solid the three days before that. SML is the closest to my house and office, so I am starting to look elsewhere as I am unimpressed with the size of fish I have been catching. Thanks to you guys, and a few of your threads I drove out to Wyco Lake last night for the first time just to see it. Seems you guys were out in full force last night, I assume for the tournament. Going to give it a shot at some point soon. Pulled this out of SML sunday afternoon, first good bass I have seen come out of that lake. Can't really tell in the photo, but it was a thick fish. Had a viral infection or old snapping turtle wound on the tail, not sure which.
