I use spinning tackle to target docks, to get baties. Under them. You may consider casting reels. Most all good casting reels will out cast spinning reels I used 12 pound test , and a medium light casting rod in 7 foot , fast tip fore casting lightweight lures.
I do not fish from the bank, but I use a trash bag for my used line. You would not believe how much line my boat prop picks up on the lake. There is always someone choking used line in the water. Not only is this not good for boat motors, but waterfowl alike. This is a thorn in my side to see trash and debris scattered across a lake and on the shore. Can you just imagine how many Coke cans and beer bottles are in the bottom of the lake?.
There is a test you can do, when the eng, running, take a volt teast on the craken batt, it schould be reading 13 volts or higher. I have a 200 hp merc and I had to disconnect the volt reg, it would short and take out the rectifer. IF you have ever shorted you power feed to the batt. it will take out the fectifier. I would get a service manual,it will have all the steps you need to take to find the problem.
Ive found when hunting smallmouth on the average, worms not larger than 6 inch, grubs,1/8 to 1/4 oz spinnerbaits. and small baits but this is just a general rule, but rules are made to be broken. I find it best to make long cast and be as quit as you can. smalles spook very easy.
I make mke up my owen scents, I use it on softplastic baits that I pour. and her is some thing for pound pro, take you sent and add it to some vaseline jelley, the unscented kined. just add it to your cranks and it dont wash off ,you have to wipe it off.
