Setting the hook
There is a few possibles that can be causing this condition. One. The hook could be too small for the size body of worm you using or the hook is not sharp enough. Two. You're waiting too long to set the hook, I recommend setting the hook As soon as you feel the tap. If you wait the fish can do one of two things swallow the hook, or spit it out. Three. You could be using a rod not suitable for worming.

Topwater
My number one topwater bait choice in open water would be a Zara Spook. In weedy and brushy areas. The buzzbait would be my number one choice.

How do you read cover?
I look for cover that is not easily to spot, cover that is easy to find. So has 99 other bass boats located. I look for subtle changes that do not always stand out from the rest, such as a bearing section of ground amongst a thick grove of trees or a group of trees or a single tree. That is different from the rest. These subtle changes can mean bass bonanza on the untapped waters. This hard-to-find cover is most overlooked, and sometimes it is not hard-to-find, but it is overlooked, because it blends into the surrounding area.

crankbait rods
I use an All-Star titanium graphite rod in the 7 foot medium action fast tip for my cranking rod, I would not put this rod to the max limits. As I would a Lamiglas rod. A few years ago, I built a Lamiglas worm Rod for a friend, it was a pro graphite rod. He took this rod out, saltwater fishing and had hooked 300 pound hammerhead shark and brought aboard his boat. The freshwater rods were not intended for saltwater duty, but that gives you some idea of their durability.

Why does the rain help?
If you have a barometric gauge at home, take a look at just before you go fishing. When a rainstorm is to approach the barometric pressure starts to drop. This pressure dropped can be very subtle or drop very rapidly, indicating a very strong storm is approaching, in either case. It puts bass, another game fish on the feed. As the rains washed down the banks into the water. It brings nutrients into the lake, which causes the bait fish to get active, which in turns gets a bass active. Most of the feeding activity is short as a front passes through, the pressures go to climb, and bass goes back to their norm.

Rod Building
Flexcoat makes a beginner's rod builder guide, or your local library may have books on Rod building. There is some basic things about rod building . You must learn before you start building a rod. You must learn how to locate the spline of the blank. Flexcoat is a two-part Palomar compound and must be measured out in a equal parts, or it will not harden. There is a resin and a hardner. Flexcoat does not dissipate air bubbles well, U-40 makes top-of-the-line product for rod building. Even if you wrap your guides by hand, you will still need a dryer to rotate the rod to keep the Palomar's from running to one side, it will take about six to eight hours at 70° temperature to dry the finish and takes about four to five days to complete cure out. Take it one step at a time. Learn what you need to do, what equipment you need to do the job and used the best quality rod compound product, you can get hold of, it will make your job a lot easier. And you'll end up with the professional finish. There is many rod building suppliers, I used this one for years, Angler's workshop telephone number. 1 362 225-6359. They have books for rod builders, rod components, rod wrappers, thread and much more. www.anglersworkshop.com If there is any question on Rod building , I will be more than happy to help you out just give me hoot on the forum.

Does lure advertising effect what you buy?
I believe one time or another, we have all fallen for advertising on a lure. As we become more knowledgeable about lures we are less influenced by advertising. As we look at lures in general, we look for the qualities of those lures that we know that has performed for us in the past so that kind of puts advertising in the back seat for most of us. As Fishman, we are always willing to try something new, whether or not advertising has anything to do with it or not, even though for the most of us. We know there is no such thing as a magical bass lure, just in the hopes to find a lure. That may outperform, what we have.

Catch'em and Eat'em

Is bass fishing the same big or small?
when I hear the word Big bass I think of the 10 pound class and up. The tactics you use for small fish and big fish are not the same. Large finish live and feed in the same waters that their smaller brothers do.

How to get better at what we do.
I feel that a lot of Fishman's put the cart in front of the horse. To start out with. a bass fishermen must learn all he can about bass, how it lives, how he reacts to the elements of the weather, how bass use their eyes, hearing, lateral line, taste, smell, how they feed. Fishermen needs master each and every lure he intends to use. By taking only one lure or type of lure with him to the water, for example. I want to learn how to use a jig better. Do not take any other lures with you to the water this will prevent you from using a lure that you may have more confidence in. Spend the whole day fishing with that one type of lure. This will help you learn what you can or cannot do that lure. This will also help you learn what Rod and what line is best for that lure. It has been said, if you're going to break in a new outboard motor. Don't take your tackle with you. This holds true when you want to learn to used a new lures. Don't take your old lures with you. least, but not last , spend as much time on the water that you can, in summer, spring ,fall and winter. When these objectives are met, then you are ready to apply presentations ,techniques that you may read about, to fit your needs best. Because you will know where they are best suited for. The key to successful bass fishing, is using the right lure, right presentation, at the right time and right place.

Bass Books
Literature presented by Doug Hannon, Al linder, Bill Dance, Jimmy Houston, Hank Parker, they are just a trusted few. I take a hard look at what is presented by anyone., That is active on a pro circuit.

Fiberglass & Aluminum boat tournaments
If a tournament is sponsoring a aluminum boat as a prize, it may not get entries from those who own fiberglass boats. Once you own a fiberglass boat, it would be hard to go back to any aluminum boat. My first boat was aluminum and after owning a fiberglass boat. I could never go back to aluminum. There is times I would like to have a aluminum boat under me. For some conditions, I had encountered, but all in all fiberglass boats for me.

Re: How to choose the right color
Chris I. will echo what JT said. By all means use white color process works of you the best. This is what Bass fishing is all about, trial and error. Through this process, we discover and learn what works best for us where we fish, what we fish, and how deeply we finish it. This is what's great about the forum, sharing knowledge techniques, presentations and general concepts in our efforts to help another fisherman to put one more fish on the hook. We know, what we present may not meet the needs of all or even a few but if one can adapt it to his or her way of fishing and to puts one more fish on their line, we have met our objective. If we do not have the concern to share and learn from others. We would not be here on the forum. So don't let someone that does not agree on a concept to change what you know, that works best for you, it just means that that information may not work for them. Over the years that I have been Bass fishing. I have not found many things that you can do wrong. It's a matter of doing it at the right place at the right time. That is what can be the tricky part.
-
What new technique are you going to try?
Carolina rig a hard jerkbait.

Re: How to choose the right color
I'm sorry Chris, I don't agree with your method of selecting colors. But I do agree with JT, where did that come from?.
-
Re: How to choose the right color
In your first statement about red use a red line red bait bass can't see it because it blends in with the red surrounding. So, you are saying, if I used green line Green Bait in green cover. Bass are not going to see it because it blends in with the surrounding. In Clearwater use any color. Pleased defined Clear water and just what color is Clear water. Please translate visibility percent as to how far down You can see a bright lure using the visibility percent. You have posted.

What makes one better than the other?
Chris: Here are a few more in a triggering quality, small size, natural colors and flash ,random action natural sounds, long thin profile. fast retrieve. Theoretically lure with all attracting qualities, and no triggering qualities, would never catch bass because even though they might be drawn to it they would not eat it. Likewise, a bass would probably never know, a lure with 100 percent triggering qualities Was there. Therefore, regardless of conditions. You'll need some blend of attracting and triggering qualities in your lure If you expect to catch bass on it.

Are you loyal to a brand?
I don't know if I'm loyal to one brand or the other. I feel is more a confidence issue over one lure over the other. As for reels, and rods, I am loyal to one bran to do a certain job. Such as Lews speed reel on a All-Star titanium graphite rod. Or, a Garcia 55 C3 on a Lamiglas pro graphite.

Creaturebait
I pour my own soft plastic baits some are pretty wild looking. They're in colors that most fish has never seen, they are in try colors, that is three separate layers.

What makes one better than the other?
Chris which do you feel is more important ? Attracting or triggering qualities.
