  1. I'll go ahead and put in another vote for the BPS Pro Qualifier / Carbonlite combo. For $159 it's tough to beat.
  2. I think you will be fine. I like fishing from canoes and kayaks... have no real interest in a bass boat at all. I don't like being waked, though, so I prefer the trolling motor only lakes.
  3. I ordered a Shimano Sellus M/F from Amazon the other day to go with my Daiwa Lexa 100... it arrived broken in 3 pieces. Thankfully Amazon is great to deal with for returns so I've already been refunded and shipped the broken rod back. Went to DSG during lunch today and picked up a M/F Veritas.
  4. What seats did you get? I am usually up front and am fine with the stock seat with a cushion. I usually stand, anyways. But a swivel seat out back would probably help a lot. We did order a cart for it earlier this week. It should be here soon.
  5. Welcome!
  6. My dad and I got a 14' Scanoe. We have a 45lb Minn Kota on it and Spring Creek stabilizers. It's a good, inexpensive setup that is easy to throw on top of his SUV and get in/out of the water quickly. Very stable with the stabilizers. I stand and fish most of the time. For a cheap canoe it tracks pretty well and moves along nicely with the 45. The only tough part about it is the trolling motor is quite a ways back from the rear seat. Even at full reach it's still a little uncomfortable to operate for long periods. We did look into the Porta Bote but ultimately decided we didn't need it. For the cost of a basic Porta Bote we could equip the Scanoe with everything we wanted and still end up spending a bit less. I would still love to have one, though. They are pretty nifty.
  7. Definitely looking forward to using the new stuff.
  8. Nice! Oh, just found out that my neighborhood pond is not posted with no fishing signs. I'm going to give it a try one night this week. I know it's full of sunfish, but the bottom looks incredibly mucky and I have no idea if the HOA stocks it with anything.

Nice. I'm stopping by tonight to pick up some things. They always seem to be having nice deals on soft plastics and cranks when I am there. Buy one get one 50% off is popular at my local DSG.
  10. Welcome Chris! What Sam said... We have a lot of NoVA folks here!
  11. Dinks are all I catch anymore so I swing em on in. Half the time I swear they are lighter than my plastic worm so I don't worry about it much. Big guys get lipped or netted.
  12. I threw a jig for the first time last weekend. Swim jig, actually, and it got hit on the fall on my first cast out. Pretty cool, and definitely an area I want to venture deeper into.
  13. I have a PQ on a Carbonlite rod and really like it.
  14. Haven't tried it yet. Just read that you park over in the BB lot and walk down. Bing Maps' Bird's Eye View gives you a good look of the area. Seems like there are some places to walk down but I haven't checked it up close yet.
  15. I have caught those a few times on the res. I think it's a warmouth.
  16. Sounds like fun to me. Could just do a "fish of the month" or something like that for bragging rights. That said I likely don't stand a chance. I think I've been relegated to dink duty.
  17. I think my dad and I are going to give Burke Lake a shot this Saturday in the canoe.
  18. Yes. I promised to stop buying stuff last week. Then I decided my fiancée needed a new spinning rod. Well it turns out I liked the rod (just a Shimano Sellus M/XF) so I decided I want one. Well, I need a reel to put it on. Daiwa Lexa 100 and my Sellus 6'8" M/F get here tomorrow. :| :| :|
  19. Hit the Res today with my dad. We went from 6am-Noon. Launched out of Lake Ridge and made our way up Sandy Run. We had some luck early, mainly with little ones on spinners and senkos. My dad hooked a ~2lber early but right as we got him to the boat he shook off. Plenty of 1 punders on the day but nothing of substance. I'm guessing the big guys are still deep. Still had fun... it was very nice out but a bit too windy for my tastes. Was hard to keep our canoe in place later in the morning. I think we are going to hit Burke or Accotink next... someplace better suited to a canoe than the res.
  20. Where was that? I have one buzzbait but have never really used it. Here's a silly question: Has anyone fished the "lake" at Best Buy in Woodbridge? I stumbled upon a fishing report last night where a gentleman briefly fished that lake and caught a largemouth on a spinner bait. There are fish there, and I have to believe it's not pressured... would be interesting to check out. I would just feel awkward parking in the BB lot and walking into the woods with a rod.
  21. I think my dad and I will be out in the canoe on Saturday morning. It's bright red with outriggers so we'll be easy to spot. Holler if you spot us.
